  1. Annnd the Angels just got the best player in the draft. Adell is going to be a stud.
  2. I'd love to be a fly on the wall in the Twins draft room right now. Who are they trying to get at 35? Hiura had BA's best hit tool. Gonna need TJS tho, then probably land at 2B.
  3. Yeah, the strength of this class was prep bats and arms, not college arms. Beck's got a hell of a bat. Second only to Adell IMO.
  4. This draft is going well. The Rays taking McKay (and not Thompson, whom they might have taken if McKay was off the board) should improve the probability someone falls to 35.
  5. Well, its Boras, of course he's the greatest thing since sliced cheese. We'll see what he signs for. I'd guess 6.25 or thereabouts.
  6. I'm happy. Lewis was number 2 on my board (after Adell). Definitely a "projection" pick, but there are some numbers on his side- he is extremely young, which is meaningful. He's a UC Irvine commit, which is a lower ranked school and should counter balance his representation somewhat to keep his price down. I think its a decent value pick.
  7. If the Twins took McKay at 1-1, got Burger to fall to 35 and somehow Rooker as well at 37, they'd have three of the best college bats locked up. I'd be pretty stoked by that.
  8. Allard was 93-94 and had a really nice curveball IIRC. I remember liking him quite a bit at the time. Similar to Gore I suppose.
  9. Huh? Aiken needed TJS but neither Allard or Garrett has, right? Allard has had back surgery (two) tho.
  10. McKay's performance later in games is a real concern. Widespread reports of velo loss by inning 5. In the game I saw (vs Oklahoma two weeks ago) he started hanging curveballs around pitch 55 (a sign of fatigue) and almost totally abandoned it by the end of his stint, moving to a 84 mph cutter instead which hitters made a lot of contact on. He struckout 5 of the first 7 batters in that start but only 2 of the next 17. Maybe when he turns pro and doesn't have to hit in the same game he pitches in, he'll have the energy to maintain velo a little deeper. Maybe he's got a mechanical flaw causing him to waste energy. Could be fixable. Or could be he just doesn't have the stamina to go deep into games consistently no matter what.
  11. I think with Boras the concern could be less about the signing bonus and more about the inability to extend his clients. He usually takes them to FA where obviously if they're any good never lands them in MN. Also as Gunnarthor said there could be a clubhouse issue if the player causes any of his teammates to switch agencies. Its unfortunate but seems likely to be a factor. The Twins very rarely draft Boras clients with their first pick.
  12. Falvey did suggest in an interview with the Pioneer Press a few weeks ago that he was open to the idea of McKay developing as a two-way player for (I'm paraphrasing) "as long as he can do both successfully." He gave the indication that performance would dictate whether he had to abandon one or the other.
  13. In a Strib article from last week Greene mentions his relationship with Torii Hunter. Evidently they met at a fundraiser and exchanged phone numbers. Since joining the FO Hunter has been deployed to scout for the draft and was on hand at Greene's TF showcase. I wonder how much clout Torii will have in the draft and whether he is personally pulling for Greene.
  14. Yeah, its a fun conversation but totally moot. There is zero chance of Santana being traded. When the Twins have a veteran pitcher performing like this they're going to hold on with both hands hoping his magic sauce rubs off on the kids.
  15. The return is all that matters. The team isn't going deep into the postseason. They're 8-13 against winning teams, outscored 111-149. They don't have the pitching to take on good teams in the postseason. If we're all happy with another first round exit, then they should do nothing. If not, then let the market decide whether to trade Ervin. If it turns out nobody wants to pony up for arguably the best starting pitcher in baseball, then the Twins should just turn around and becomes buyers because they need 1-2 more arms at least to have a shot in the postseason.
  16. I like Wright, more than McKay at this point. I'd love to have him in the system. But, I remain skeptical he's a 1-1 talent. His college career, while very good, just doesn't compare to the best college arms taken before him. Which is where he'd have to be in order to take on the risk of an arm at 1-1, IMO. http://www.baseball-reference.com/draft/?draft_type=junreg&query_type=overall_pick&from_type_jc=0&from_type_hs=0&from_type_4y=0&from_type_unk=0
  17. I do think the Lester comp is kinda random. On what basis is that his ceiling?
  18. Tom, thanks again. I didn't catch the game but just watched the condensed version on mlb.com: http://m.mlb.com/video/v1479523183/6817-condensed-game-minsea/?game_pk=491000 According to Brooks, Gibson threw 33 curveballs last night, the most of any game in his career. 20 of them were strikes, including 6 whiffs. Is there still hope for Gibby after all? Buxton, my goodness. He must be a gold glove contender. Who's better ?Couple more incredible catches last night. I would love to know the statcast / difficulty rating of that 400 foot liner off the bat of Cano. Ball was hit right at him, those are tough to read off the bat. Buxton is a weapon on the bases. Two base advance on a past ball in the 9th, wow. Rogers-Kintzler have been a good 8-9th inning duo, but they need help. How long before these two burn out?
