  1. This is not a playoff contending team (as in advancing in the playoffs). They are at least one arm short in the bullpen and their offense is feast or famine. Guess which one you get facing playoff pitching?
  2. Before the 2019 season I predicted the Twins offense would be feast or famine based on lots of power with low obp. Happily I was wrong. Unhappily I’m afraid my original prediction is coming true. I also think we are overplaying the strategy of bringing marginal pitchers and counting on Wes Johnson to fix them.
  3. A more practical consideration in modern baseball is that not that many guys bunt well enough to make it pay. When I guy is trying to bunt but can’t get it down you’ve really screwed yourself.
  4. Except now it is “take your time and throw as hard as you can. You are only going to be in there for a short time”.
  5. This. He has swing and miss stuff he just needs to locate better and more consistently. Couldn’t care less about whether his fastball is at 95 or 97 just so it is located better.
  6. The Twins like most employers have protocols for Covid. They constitute a condition for employment whether anyone likes them or not. If you want to work for the Twins you follow their rules. I find it interesting that they are not being replaced.
  7. Of all the extension candidates this the one I would get done. He’s durable works hard and the Twins need all the starters they can get.
  8. We all realize this is a guy who barely made A+ and didn’t do much there. He’s likely two years from the bigs if he makes it at all.
  9. The Dozier comp is weird. Nick can handle short and provide other benefits to the team. I personally think he is a sleeper for this team.
  10. Interesting question. I believe their rehab facilities are in Ft Myers. If he could rehab here it would be great for him to hang around Simmons.
  11. To answer the premise of the article it will depend on how much starting pitching they develop.
  12. Can one of our medical experts weigh in? What are the implications of a small tear vs large or complete tear? Feel bad for the kid. Critical year of development lost.
  13. The trick here is that he has to become an elite hitter for this pick to work. There are many 1st base DH types out there that can hit 20-25 homers a year. Hardly in demand.
  14. Good points. I would point out that all those guys can hit so position isn’t as big a factor. If Lewis can’t hit the only position he could play and be valuable is short. Plus you are pointing out the success stories. There are plenty of guys that were just plain busts and their highest value was as trade stock.
  15. He’s highly suspect to me. His swing is a mess and h isn’t giving any signs of being a big league SS. If you draft a guy this high he should be able to stick at short. If not they should have traded him as a prospect.
  16. I think Gordon might surprise. He can legitimately play SS which is critical for one of the bench spots. Would prefer Rooker not be in the field. I’ve long wanted a backup right handed CF but that ain’t gonna happen.
  17. The FO manages the options game well. While I would have liked to add more quality this set up should allow them to comb through a bunch of pitchers to find the hot hand.
  18. I’m optimistic mainly because he has a nice swing and is a great athlete. I kind of feel like he’s gotten a little pull happy. I know it’s not currently popular but I liked him better when he was trying to hit line drives. Maybe this approach and using all fields will make him more consistent with the bat.
  19. The problem with Rooker is that he is an absolute butcher in the field. I don’t want him anywhere but DH and pinch hitting. If they could get something for him I would also trade Cave and have a right handed option on the bench.
  20. I’m happy as heck to be watching a good ball club that will likely make the playoffs. The title of the article is how they addressed past playoff weaknesses. Not seeing it. No way this club gets to or wins the World Series. Way too short on quality pitching.
  21. This provides a perspective on trading good prospects for older veterans. Just think of what the ChiSox would be with Tatis. BTW I think the contract is foolish. One severe knee injury from rendering the franchise uncompetitive for a decade. Plus unless salaries go way up they just eliminated any surplus value in the contract from a trade perspective.
  22. They have built a very solid team that should be a factor in the playoffs. This is not a World Series team however. They needed to upgrade their pitching and they haven’t.
