  1. This. He isn’t an analytics dream. All he does is get guys out. Will it continue I don’t know but until then maybe some of the Twins other starters should take notice especially Berrios.
  2. Buxton Cruz Maeda and Dobnak can share it. I actually more confidence in in Buxton and Dobnak to sustain this which is surprising
  3. Berrios has never had good command so I don’t see throwing harder as the problem. However hard he throws he has to hit his targets better that is when he will be an ace. The stuff is there.
  4. I’m with you Doc. Dobnak was rolling and likely would have given them another inning with only a dozen more pitches
  5. Yes it is. He has the stuff and sufficient velocity. He lacks the ability to consistently locate. He ends up with 25 pitch innings way too often
  6. Command of his pitches is a far bigger problem than velocity. The focus on velocity in modern analytics is overblown. Berrios is the perfect example
  7. I’m impressed with his defense this year. He’s made several good plays at several different positions
  8. I think his lack of command and ability to change speeds are bigger reasons for his struggles.
  9. It’s the latest data analytics theory. It’s called pitch to contact. It’s going to be big!
  10. Thorpe looked like Gibby out there. Afraid his stuff isn’t good enough
  11. Good question- nothing other than a comfort thing.
  12. I’m not worried about his bat. He has a great swing and decent eye. I’m more worried about his throwing. The knee on the ground thing with runners on is not going to work. He is not nearly quick enough to throw anybody out
  13. Buxtons swing has gotten long again. His hands are so high for someone who struggles with pitch recognition. He needs to prioritize contact and worry about power later
  14. Dobnak is quoted after the game as saying he pitches to contact. That grinding sound you here is the gnashing of teeth on these boards.
  15. Berrios has as good of stuff as Bieber. The difference is command and it is huge
  16. Smeltzer was dominant for his first inning and some. He got lit up but could have been out of there with some help from Polanco. A four hopper that makes it by Donaldson and Jorge was not good
  17. Nice article Seth. Most excited about Duran. Not as familiar with Chalmers and don’t like Alcala s lack of control. Hopefully that improves with development
  18. Bailey looks like the clock might have struck midnight. I sure hope isn’t Perez version 2
  19. I tell ya even as a kid I got no respect. We had a dog that we called Egypt because he left a pyramid in every room. No respect at all
  20. I give credit to the front office. If you can’t get an ace then build depth. They have done a great job of that. I feel that the Twins can withstand injuries or poor performance pretty easily. It will hurt in a playoff series but their rotation should get us there
  21. This what I don’t want as it weakens the outfield all the way around. I wanted a Maybin type player that would leave Max in right and Eddie in left
  22. You want Marwin playing center field? Not me. He is pretty much only subsistence level in the outfield at this point
  23. I have not understood why the twins haven’t acquired a right handed hitting backup outfielder over the last several years. It’s been a need for a while....
