Blue Jays 9, Twins 3: Blue Jays Crush Twins
farmerguychris replied to Theo Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Why is Pagan on this team? That is all. -
Why do you wish the starters to go 6-7 innings when there is statistical data which shows that nearly every pitcher in the history of the game have worse stats when facing hitters for the third time in a day. When our BP was awful, it made sense to consider pushing the starters longer, hoping they can be the exception to the 3rd time thru the order historical data. However with an upgraded BP, we should be more confident playing the numbers and having them go thru twice and then turn it over. Numbers don't lie.

An ESPN writer suggested Twins trade for Ohtani
farmerguychris replied to Loosey's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I tend to be one of those who likes seeing prospects grow into contributors - but when it comes to a talent like Ohtani, I'd make that trade. Players like him don't come available often at a cost we can manage. -
Why Would the Twins Deal Carlos Correa?
farmerguychris replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
If Royce would have been healthy, I would have wanted to see what we could get in return. But as of now - stand pat with him and hope he even considers staying another year.- 34 replies

More often than not, I have been good with the moves this FO has made. They acknowledge they need BP arms. I think they'll find some. I just hope that we don't move a potential full time starter for 3 month rental arm. We aren't really in a push for a championship are we? But as it stands now - I'm never comfortable going into the second half of any game without a lead of at least 6+ runs.

Is there value in winning a playoff round?
farmerguychris replied to jorgenswest's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
It has to start with winning one playoff game! But yes - to win a series would (i believe) do a great service to the fan base who has been patient during this rebuild. Time for some results as our reward. -
Minnesota’s 3 Options with Carlos Correa
farmerguychris replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I would have selected option 3 if Royce had stayed healthy and continued to play well. Now, I think we gotta keep him and go for it this year (as long as we invest in our BP). I know unlikely he returns, but until he opts out, I can always hope! -
Ryan Jeffers' Place Among AL Catchers
farmerguychris replied to MMMordabito's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
After being counted on to replace Garver with possibly giving us some upside, I think Jeffers have proven to be the definition of very average. Good pitch framer, but what else does he give us? A little power, poor at throwing out runners, etc. We've been spoiled with Mauer and then Garver. Hope we can find someone with a little more upside very soon. -
Who is Part of the Twins' Long-Term Core Four?
farmerguychris replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton (if can stay healthy), Lewis (if knee can stay healthy), AK (if wrist can stay healthy), and Ryan - IMO Would be ok with Duran in there as well, but have trouble putting a reliever in there as a core player when their careers (like Duffy) can be so brief.- 84 replies

What evidence do you have that Rocco has done this? Don't you think he wants better options also?

Same story different day. When is the F.O. going to give Rocco some help in the pen? Do they think it is going improve on its own?

Pondering a Nelson Cruz Reunion
farmerguychris replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Love having Cruz with us in the past, but unless he can now suddenly pitch, we're not a good fit. Like all teams - we have limited trade assets, I'd prefer to use those assets to acquire pitching, not hitters - we have those. -
Hopefully we get some new bullpen arms before this post blows completely up so we can talk about the new guys. Can't get them here fast enough. Can't fairly blame Rocco as he can only put out there who the FO puts in his pen. But, something needs to change.

Lets draft them and throw them in the MLB pen right away. Can't do worse than what we got can they?

Time to see if some our our young pitchers are ready to make an impact in relief. Can't be worse than Pagan or Duffy. I can't blame Rocco for this - he can only send out there who is in his pen. If a game drags on, options become more and more limited. Nice to see him using Duran for 2, I wouldn't have sent him out for a third inning either.

Of course I'd love to have a star like Correa on our team for years to come. But with that said - at what cost would it come to our potential success? Fact is - we operate on a budget - like it or not. Do you like the current pitching situation? What we have on the mound is likely what we will be able to afford going forward if we have 30-40M invested in one positional player annually. Only possible way to change the mediocrity of our pitching would be to develop a star from our prospects and even then the likelihood of extending them if they become a star is drastically reduced by the large amount committed to CC. Lets absolutely enjoy him while he's here. I pray he stays at least one more year so Lewis can get healthy, but after that I think we have 2 choices. We can sign someone like CC to be our star, OR we can truly try to compete for a championship. I don't think we can have both with this ownership group who exercises their right to have follow a reasonable budget the past few years.

Twins Tidbit: Where have the Stolen Bases Gone?
farmerguychris replied to TwinsData's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The game evolves quickly. In 2019 the balls traveled well making stealing of bases more risky in terms of ROI. However with fewer HR in 2022, the ability to work counts to take walks, and the stealing of bases has likely increased. However, our top base stealer (Buxton) also risks injury every time he attempts to swap a bag. Don't like seeing us last in stolen bases, and would prefer to be closer to middle of the pack so opposing pitchers and catchers had to at least worry about us trying to steal one. -
Twins Trade Deadline 2022: Buy or Sell?
farmerguychris replied to cHawk's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I'd be ok selling in positions of depth such as Kepler or Sano to buy for a position of need such as a pitcher. But I'd want a return of something greater than a 1/2 year rental pitcher in return. Getting a pitcher with at least 1 more year of team control would be a requirement. -
4 Veteran Players the Twins Can Trade
farmerguychris replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Package Kepler and Sano together and see if it brings anything back? I wouldn't expect much, but its worth the F.O. putting it out there.- 62 replies

4 Shortstop Options for the 2023 Twins
farmerguychris replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Find a unique way to extend Correa. Tear up the remaining 2 years of his deal and give him a new one that does even more to get him to stay at least 1 more year. I'm fine with Polacios/Gordon for the backup SS role next year.- 34 replies

Booing Josh Donaldson? For or Against
farmerguychris replied to strumdatjag's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
I vote no Booo. I don't think he really demonstrated the jerk persona that he has a reputation for while in MN. Obviously we're not in the clubhouse, and players such as Kepler have indicated the departure of Donaldson may have played a factor in getting a better clubhouse this year. But overall, we paid him a lot of money, we got fair value for the money spent, and I kind of liked his fire he sometimes brought to a team with a pretty laid back mentality (offering to fight in the parking lot, etc). -
I legit feel bad for Duffey, seems like he's as frustrated by it as we are. But- thats the job, and he appears to know it. A reliever life can go by quickly - maybe his time is simply done based on stats the last and this year. Not that I saw any other real good options in our pen at the moment however to take his spot.
