  1. I've defended most of the moves this F.O. has made despite often being in the minority - but I don't understand $11M to yet another left handed corner outfielder who hits below .200. Whats the point - do they really not want Wallner to play that badly or perhaps is Larnach having a set back? This makes no sense at all. Even if we trade Kepler, now we have this guy who is also 'just a guy' but at a higher salary. If were right handed I could at least understand that angle of it.
  2. If we can't get anyone to play for us in FA, I'd prefer to not make trades so can keep our farm as it is, and then sure - lets let the kids play! Would be fun to watch the next core come up and work with the existing one. Sure they may have some hard times, but they will learn on the job also.
  3. Not sure why he didn't get any attention - he made sense to me as someone to at least make an offer to.
  4. He' s doing very well for himself and his clients. Too bad its to the detriment of sports as we know them and will only lead to less and less parity in baseball.
  5. They probably traded Gio in hopes that the cash saved by trading him could go towards C4. But now with the Giants involved, we have a hole and money to spend. I'd prefer to play the young guys however.
  6. This off season is a great example of why MLB needs both a salary cap, and a floor. Contracts like this will ruin baseball if the trend continues of only the big markets being able to buy teams. With that said, it will be a good thing for the Giants for the next 5 years or so. Then they will have an albatross contract that they can handle, but we would be in trouble having on the books.
  7. I can't sit here and honestly be upset with the Twins F.O. on this one. They made a more aggressive offer than they ever have before by a long margin. They offered a higher annual value each year of the contract, and as we heard previously, likely offered opt outs. I'm sorry but 13 years is too long a contract for any player with any years of service. Do we want CC at any price when he's 43, let alone at $25M+? I don't. While in 2056, $25M might be a cheap price for a player - the odds that CC plays at even a replacement level are low. Good try F.O. - on to the next option. I say lets go big on pitching. Dansby may be fine, but I'm concerned he is going to want CC type money but with only 1 real year of top level performance.
  8. Am I the only one who feels Farmer may be fine for half a year while Lewis gets healthy? I like having CC on our team, but not enough to keep us from spending money in the future when I think Lewis may be a good SS for us very shortly.
  9. Sounds like we don't have to worry about catcher this year until someone gets put on the IL, as catchers tend to do. Hope we have another backstop on the current roster worthy of a 40 man spot. One thing checked off the list - well done. Next...
  10. I think we could be in a position where we could offer him a long contract with opt outs every year. Look - we have Lee and Lewis both as possible above average players at SS, and while I know the club takes the risk by offering opt outs that a player can elect not to take if they perform poorly, I think CC has the potential of being good in most areas in play. I wouldn't mind having him for a year, or 6 years - but no matter how good he is today, I'm not sure I'd sign anyone for the 11 year contracts I've seen signed this year. Too much risk when you have potential SS starters in the wings, even if they are not CC.
  11. This is where I'd like to see the Twins spend most of their draft capital this next draft. How many years have we been saying we need more pitching? In the best pitcher draft we could possibly have - maybe only 5 out of 20 work out to the majors right? I like the signing of people like Brooks Lee - he's exciting and I'm thrilled he fell that far. I just get tired of always looking for pitching. Don't reach, but don't go drafting any more DH/1B types please when pitchers with potential are sitting there.
  12. I agree with you - I also do not see any 'really good' players on the market at that salary with this year's crop of free agency... BUT - if we are considering signing CC for 7+ years, I would assume at some point during that timespan there could be 2 players who would have more of an impact for a $17M than 1 year of CC at $35M right? A team sport needs as many really good players instead of just a couple great ones like you can work with in something like the NBA.
  13. Good - while Judge is a great talent, hopefully this monster contract at some point prevents them from getting someone they want in the future.
  14. Lately I really got myself caught up in the Carlos mania - lets get him signed..... it would be great to land a superstar long term, etc! But - the more I think about it... is it a good plan? We learned last year that one superstar does not make a team playoff worthy. Wouldn't it be a better long term team move that instead of signing 1 superstar player for $35M per year that we sign 2 star players for $17M each? I'm not really looking at this year, as I don't know if there are any stars to be had for $17M - but IF we did get Carlos (and a big part of me wants to) is it going to hamstring us in the future when there is a player we want, but can't afford because of his contract. I know $35M per year isn't outlandish, especially 6 years from now - BUT - in the most simple form, aren't 2 really good players better than 1 great one in a team sport such as baseball?
  15. I think this would be a good idea. Listen - we all like Arraez as a Twin. However as a long term part of our plans, is he going to stay healthy with these knees? If he played in the field as much in 2022 as he did in the past would he have won that batting title? I think now is the time to sell high on him - If we don't get a stud in return, then keep him -but certainly listen to offers.
  16. Need to keep some prospects in our ranks - keep looking but I want these three on our teams.
  17. This doesn't bother me too much. I think we have enough options at 1st, and with our other needs Bell would have been a luxury. Am surprised Cleveland is going to do this however - perhaps a sign of things to come with the new minority owner?
  18. I'm fine as long as we continue to be a middle of the pack player in terms of dollars spent. However, its more important how we spend it instead of how much we spend.
  19. I think Jim was better than Carl, and I am hopeful that the fan in Joe is better than Jim for their willingness to invest in the team. I am optimistic but don't expect a change overnight.
  20. I like Ryan and hope he's with us in our rotation for several more years - but with his age and the amount of team control we have I see no benefit to considering him for an extension for at least another year or two.
  21. Since that is where he spent the majority of his time in the minors, it only makes sense to give him first shot there with Gio gone. However, I'm more comfortable that I would be without Arraez and possibly Farmer also being able to play that position.
  22. I think his value is at its peak right now. He's fun to watch, and he's a great hitter. Just don't think he will last long term on those knees. I'd dangle him out there to see what kind of a SP we could get for him.
  23. Don't want anything to do with him. Sure, his metrics say he should be better than he is. But for 3 years - his inconsistency in putting a few pitches every outing in the middle of the plate gets him rocked. If its true that 'multiple' teams were interested in trading for him, perhaps the Twins f.o. is just trying to sort out the best deal for him in a trade. Worst case however is that we stall too long trying to get too much and then end up keeping him because his metrics say he should be better than he is. Move on from the guy - don't care if we get nothing from him.
