  1. I support this F.O. However, if this is truly accurate than I will forecast this will be what ends up costing them their jobs. It is impossible to BOTH prevent your starters from going thru the lineup a 3rd time AND not have a quality BP. Stud starters can make up for a weaker pen or a Stud pen can make up (a little) for weak starters - unfortunately we have a middle of the road set of starters and a pen that 'is not a priority'. I don't see how that will work???!!!😬
  2. He played this role in the minors, time to try it in the biggs. If he can't handle it, then come up with plan B - but you gotta rip the bandaid off and try it at some point right?
  3. He's fine. I appreciate that for most of his career he was very dependable, injured or not, has some power, plays where he's asked to play. However - a time comes when you need to bring up the next wave of younger guys (when you have them - and we do) who could play this role and trade him while still has positive trade value. I envision that being the direction we go. Unfortunately when someone is underrated, you need to find a trade partner who also thinks the same thing to get a good return.
  4. As a person sitting in a Holiday Inn Express as I type this, I find your comments quite accurate. I only hope we can solve that 2 OF with 1 bat comment by trading Kepler for a stud relief pitcher who can go at least 2 innings. I think that type of trade would fit up in the top half of these rankings.
  5. If his finger is healthy - are the ANY Twins fans who wouldn't prefer him and his ability to go 2-3 innings in the pen instead of Pagan? Hopefully has a great spring and forces Baldelli to make this happen.
  6. Why would you want to have anybody in the 'conventional closer' role like in years past? This would mean you put him in only in the 9th. It is much more advantageous to let the closer role be fluid. Why save Duran's talents for the 9th when you're up 3 runs when you could instead use him in the 7th when we might be only up by 1? A fluid pen which allows us to put in pitchers with the best matchups is the smart way to go IMO.
  7. Lets wait until the trade deadline to see where we're at. As it stands - we have 6 #2 and #3 level starters. I think that bodes well going against other team's #4 and #5 starters - on average. Should get us to the playoffs, if we're hot and in contention at the deadline, then consider getting a #1 you feel good about for the playoffs - otherwise keep our prospects for now.
  8. I am very intrigued to learn of the health of all our injured guys (not just pitchers) from last year. In addition to Mahle and Maeda - how are Buxton and Lewis progressing. Wish the team would share updates on their injury recoveries other than - "progressing along". Hope to get updates once spring training starts.
  9. There are only probably 8 true aces in the league. I would not be interested in moving that kind of future potential for one of those guys who will likely only be around for a year or two. Too much potential with players like Lee, Lewis, Martin, etc.
  10. Don't want to be in any rush - Once another team has a significant injury in the outfield, they'll likely be willing to offer more in return than we could get before the season starts.
  11. I think by adding Taylor, it really frees up the possibility that we don't need someone for the major league team in trade for Kepler anymore. Our roster is pretty set, and if Kepler is gone - we have players like Larnach who will fill in just fine. I would guess until now, they were holding out Kepler to get a major league ready player in return - but now maybe they can trade for someone with higher upside, who may be a year or two further away.
  12. Too much more info is needed to make an educated decision - When was he rocked as a starter? Was it in early innings or did he simply wear down quickly? Will he be more effective if he has a small number of pitch types to choose from? He's in AAA, lets see if last year was a fluke, or the new norm before making this type of move.
  13. I feel like this trade is to see what Celistino may look like in 4 years - we just fast forwarded to Celistino's finished product. Its one year and we traded some arms who had trouble issuing too many walks - not too excited and not too disappointed either.
  14. I think this feels right - Celistino would benefit from a year at AAA to learn how to hit and with Taylor only having a year left on the contract that seems like a good direction to go. Still would prefer anybody from the minors instead of Pagan - but it appears that unless he implodes during spring training, he is going to have to cost us some games (again) that count before hopefully moving on from him sooner rather than later.
  15. I believe that in current age baseball - it puts your team at a disadvantage to have a full time DH (like Cruz) who cannot field a position. Kind of like in football where your long snapper ONLY long snaps, can't they make the normal center learn how to do this? Put in your bench player who has the best matchup be your DH for each game. When you want to keep as many pitchers on the active roster as the Twins like to do - can't have someone taking up a bench spot only to hit-IMO.
  16. Good trade - would have been even better if we would have thrown Pagan as well if we really wanted to make our team better.
  17. Starting as early as next year I would love to have this infield: Lee and 3rd, C4 at SS, Lewis at 2nd, and then either AK against righties, or Miranda against lefties. Could solidify the infield for the next half decade and free us up to trade Polanco while still has a plus value contract for pitching.
  18. I think having both Farmer (right), and Gordon (left) being in super utility roles that can play anywhere on the field to be a great way to give depth in every position. That Farmer can even catch is just icing on the cake. Allows us to have 1 more bench player who can focus on either being an OF or IF specialist.
  19. Arraez is not a first baseman either. Sure - he plays there most of the time, but he's a DH with those knees. Any of the other infielders can play DH or 1B. Arraez however, cannot pitch and that is what we need.
  20. Perhaps unproven depth. But we do have Polanco, Farmer, and Gordon on the active roster with Lee and Lewis ready to come on board at some point this year. All of them are better in the field at several positions compared to Arraez.
  21. I fully agree with your thoughts. Its not a popular opinion to trade someone like him, but I think he's hit his peak value and plays a position we have depth at. We need pitching and despite him being only 25, he won't age well due to his knees.
  22. I would expect we don't see the finished product just yet. I'm sure the coaches have been having him try new things to see what works best for him. When you're trying things you are either not familiar with, or that don't feel natural to you due to lack of reps - you won't get great results. Hopefully this year they can use what they learned last year that works, and feels good to him and let them play out to get a real feel for where he is at.
  23. I would absolutely trade Polanco and Arraez before shopping Lewis and Lee. I think the younger guys in this batch have higher ceilings.
  24. I could look - but maybe you already know.... Are there any young right handed players nearly ready in our system?
