  1. How the Front Office handles this off season is really going to determine how I feel about them as leaders long term for our Twins. They've demonstrated in the past the willingness to spend money on players like Donaldson and Nelson - but perhaps they're being forced to rein in the spending now? To lose Berrios on what appears to be a fair contract, and now to potentially lose Buxton as well isn't a good look. If they "whiff" on all the FA starting pitchers this year and elect to go with retreads or in-house guys won't look good despite their ability to develop pitchers elsewhere. If we elect to simply resign someone like Simmons at SS will also simply add to the impression that either they simply don't truly desire to put a quality product on the field - or are the Polads turning frugal again after low revenues in 2020 and 2021? Either way - as fans we should not be pleased. They have a lot on their plate - I hope they elect to be competitive.
  2. Who was our top SS in St. Paul? Are they even a possibility as a stop gap for half a year until Lewis is ready?
  3. Hope we can keep both Garver and Jeffers as our backstops for another year. Give them more time to see how good Jeffers can be, and don't really feel good about who would be an acceptable #2 if one of them were traded for a position so frequently injured.
  4. I'd be pleased if we could make that move - but not for both Lewis and Martin. I'd be ok with Martin plus others, but not both SS's in our pipeline. Martin, Kepler, and someone in our 20-25 prospect range. We got Martin for Berrios - that seems like a pretty high level offer to me.
  5. I'm ok pursuing trades, but not for players with only 1 year of control left. I'd rather give Lewis a shot (if he's healthy enough to play) and risk growing pains.
  6. Alex Cobb does not excite me for 2022. 4 years ago maybe - but if he were our "big free agent pitcher signing", I would not be impressed. One other note - if the Rockies are considering bringing back Gray, that means his price must not be too high - lets make him an offer. Get him out of Coors and his numbers will look better as a potential #2 for us for the next 4 years.
  7. No thanks. I'd rather have some growing pains with one of our SS rookies over Simmons again. A rookie will make some mistakes, but hopefully won't infect a team with anything preventable.
  8. Like I said on this facebook post - I absolutely think now is the time to trade Arraez. While he is fun to watch at the plate and is our best for average hitter - as a young man his knees are already shot and they aren't going to get any better. How long of a career will he likely have due to those knees? He's below average as a fielder at every position. If we can get something decent in return for him - move him before those knees get worse and we can't get anything for him. Sell high.
  9. Played around with it for a bit.... As much as I'd like to see them sign one of the big name SS's on the market - I just don't see them doing it with our needs. I would guess we will sign one of the next tier guys for a 1 year deal so we can consider our internal/young options for 2023. I'll also guess we will likely only bring in 1 medium quality RP, and fill the rest of our spots with internal guys or minor league deal guys. Had better luck turning them around than we did big names in 2021 anyway. Starting pitching.... Good grief - some big names out there but most are so old (for MLB anyway) at such high salaries! As others have said, what they do with Buxton will change and set the tone for everything!
  10. I like Nelly as much as the next guy, but for a year that we have so many pitching needs to spend money on - plus have plenty of OF depth that could play the DH role - time to move on.
  11. Let the roll with both again next year unless we can get a solid pitching prospect for one of them in trade. Then re-evaluate again next fall.
  12. He's fine for what he is, and I would guess his MLB career will continue - it just shouldn't be in MN. Too much young depth at the positions he plays in the field. I'm sure his bat will land him someplace that is in rebuild mode.
  13. Keep him. We won't be able to replace him with any savings we get - so we will be worse as a team if he's playing elsewhere for at least 1 more year. No guarantee any savings would be reinvested in the team anyway. However with that said - if we get a 2 or 3 pitcher for it, then it might be a good long term investment.
  14. I would be shocked if we signed any of them! We had a pretty good guy in Berrios - we sent him away for what hopefully will be a pretty good return. However - if we didn't pay him who we knew, why would we think we'd pay the same amount to the unknown?
  15. I wouldn't sell any of them (except maybe Kepler). If we do - then we are obviously looking at a full rebuild. We can't simply reload and act like we're going to be competitive if we simply trade for yet more prospects.
  16. What I really like about Rooker is that he bats from the right side. How about trade Alex K, or Larnach instead for some more pitching. Might not be as good in the field minus one of the lefties, but could also get a better return for them. Otherwise I see another cluster of left handed corner outfielders kind of like we have/had with Kepler, Wade, and Cave.
  17. I like his starts, but is anyone else wondering if its just a matter of time until batters start to figure him out? His slider did look very legit at times last night however and that should continue to play well.
  18. I don't feel as good about the depth at the 5 beyond Donaldson. Sure - Arraez can play there, and maybe we have someone almost ready in the minors - but I'm hoping for a reload, not a rebuild - so while I do want to move him for pitching, I don't feel as good about a reload without someone ready to go at 3B. My first gut is saying move Sano back there as we'll likely be unable to move him and Sano is probably as good as Arraez isn't he at that position?
  19. I like him! While he's not been as healthy as I wish he were (we knew that risk going in) his play at 3B is better than any other options we have and he has also shown the ability to back it up when he trash talks. He costs a lot, but so would most other quality 3B options out there.
  20. Just gotta win out now and maybe this season isn't over just yet!
  21. Wasn't Wade yet another Left handed corner outfielder buried on the depth chart with 2 other LH corner outfield rookies waiting in the wings? Sure - in hindsight (and maybe even earlier) we could have predicted he'd be better than Cave - but ya never know. Pretty sure the Giants would have passed on Cave in that trade. Had depth for that role - threw a dart and missed. Sometime you hit, sometime you don't.
  22. Does anyone else feel that we'll be dreading playing against Judge for a decade to come? He's just a monster.
  23. If players such as Buxton and Berrios don't make the All Star Squad, will their FA prices drop making them any more likely to stay on with us?
  24. I agree with you about nothing in the leadership ranks offers much as a hitting coach. What is only real difference between our Bomba Squad in 2019 compared to our poor batting results in 2020 and now 2021. the batting coach changed! I know these guys are pros - but something had to change in the way they are being told to hit isn't there?
