  1. I saw a quote stating the Mets GM was basically a kindergartner practicing finger-painting when it comes to these trade negotiations. I fully understand starting at a high price, but asking for Buxton seems downright childish. If he asked for all the Twins top 100 prospects I'd understand (it wouldn't get the deal done obviously), but asking for a guy who is a key piece in a team looking to contend for a championship just seems more likely to stop a conversation then start one.
  2. Right, but you are gonna still count on him to be your normal CF, but if he ends up going out ala Morneau (very possible for him), it's gonna hurt because you were counting on him to be effective/present. I'm very concerned that he will decline much like Morneau, and generally just become ineffective even when present. Like I said, I would only go year to year (MAYBE 2 year deals at the max) with Buck.
  3. I know some have advocated for a Buxton extension, but the concussions are exactly why I wouldn't if I were the Twins. Go year to year with him. I really wish he'd maybe consider his own health a little bit more. You have to appreciate how hard he plays, but it's tough watching him risk his body and health so much.
  4. I've got to question this website, at least at the extremes. Royce Lewis for Mike Trout straight up is considered a fair trade. Would anybody here realistically NOT deal Lewis for Trout???
  5. He would not be the first failed Twins starter to come back and be a worthy relief pitcher. Hopefully the Twins actually keep one of them around this time!
  6. I understand Trout, Springer, and Betts are all likely to get in, but it feels like such a snub that none of the Twins OF's are likely to get in, when they are all having such great seasons. I'm expecting Cron, Polanco, Berrios, and one of Perez, Odo, and Rogers are the Twins All-Stars this year provided they keep up their pace.
  7. I'm not a huge fan of trading for Realmuto, since he is a C, unless the Twins made a couple of other moves. I think I'd need to see the Twins land Machado (which isn't going to happen) to make me a backer of trading for Realmuto (kinda like the Brewers with signing Cain and trading for Yelich last year, they needed both to be a WS contender)
  8. That's interesting because his previous number before that was #17, which is worn by Berrios . Before that #8 with the Brew Crew but that is open.
  9. "Specifics aren’t known, but it seems likely that the Twins would’ve had to outbid either by a fairly notable margin" This line really annoyed me. It's a conjecture. It's seems just as likely that he was simply going to accept the highest offer, or accept based on other factors. Not every player plays for rings. Some play for proximity for geographical preference (Reed). Some for $$$. Some for other reasons. And yes, some play for rings. There is no indication what motivates Cruz, and I wouldn't judge him based on that decision.
  10. Strong words, but low-balling has no impact here because he got his contract, and as for the vile treatment of players, I think you are really overselling the impact of keeping Buxton down last year on Cruz's decision making. Edit: And we have no idea what price point other teams were at. Cruz probably took the most $$$, which means that they would be the low-ballers, and not the Twins.
  11. No. He was not attached to draft pick compensation as the Rangers and O's used the qualifying offer on him in 2013 and 2014 respectively, so the M's could not under the new CBA, which says that a player can only receive more then one QO in their career.
  12. This does feel a lot like the Morrison signing, but I do feel that Schoop/Cruz will turn out better then Morrison/Lynn. Or maybe that's just my blind optimism.
  13. I don't see this FO acquiring Cron if payroll is set at 100MM. It would make no sense.
  14. Yea I agree with none of these. 1. Sano had one bad year. Hardly gonna write him off. 2. Kepler and Grossman are probably overutilized to win the division, but even teams like the Astro's and Dodgers have their weak points. They just don't have as many. 3. I would rather the Twins went all in on Goldschmidt before Cano, and preferably all in on no one. It should be a measured purchase. I just don't think that the Twins should trade Kirilloff and Lewis for any player in a reasonable trade (I mean, yea I'm dealing them for Acuna, but that's not happening.)
  15. Not to mention the Twins have some internal options if they like (slide Polanco over and start Gordon @ SS for one, or vice versa). Not ideal, but it's not the worst option either if the $$ are spent wisely elsewhere.
  16. In regards to other teams passing on Cron, the only team that passed on him that suprises me is the Rangers. Everyone else has decent 1B options (White Sox, Blue Jays) or prohibitively expensive options there already (Tigers and O's)
  17. Cause Cano makes 24M a year and would cost prospects? His Defense is also declining (it's still good, but worse then it used to be), he was suspended for PED's, and he's 36. Any more reasons? He'd be a decent option @ 1B I suppose. I don't think I'd bite on that though. Pretty sure he's got a NTC as well...
  18. I'll admit I'm intrigued by LeMahieu, but the price I've seen thrown around is 2/20 or 22M is far too high. I just can't see offering more then 2/14M on him (and I wouldn't start there!)
