  1. I agree. Blankenhorn needs seasoning at AAA. Gordon is as seasoned as he will ever get. Give him a shot while Blankenhorn plays every day. If Gordon can't handle it, move on.
  2. I also had the joy of meeting Hank Aaron. I was managing a restaurant in Vierra, Florida that was nearly right next to the Marlins spring training site. Hank Aaron came in for lunch along with several other folks from the Braves. It was busy so I had my job to do and didn't't get to be a fanboy. As they were leaving I saw Mr Aaron talking to one of our young busboys. I heard him ask the kid if he liked baseball. The kid said sure. Mr Aaron asked him if he had ever heard of Henry Aaron. The kid looked perplexed and said no. Mr Aaron and his party started to leave and I approached the kid and asked him if he ever heard of Hank Aaron and he said heck yes. I told him that was who he was just talking to. I thought he was going to lose it. I hurried out to find Mr Aaron do my manager version of fanboy. I told him what the kid had said. He laughed, and then returned to the dining room to talk to the kid. He shook the kid's hand, talked to him like a grandfather and gave him tickets to the next game. He walked out laughing again. I shook his hand and thanked him for coming and also for the visit with the busboy. He was extremely gracious and just a very nice man. He was the GOAT and still is (hat tip to mike Trout).
  3. If it was just the Twins i would listen to the radio. I truly enjoy the radio broadcasts as it is what i grew up with. That said, i am also a Wild and Gopher hockey fan. The radio broadcasts for them is shakey at best. I just changed providers and stuck with cable for now. It is more expensive than i like but it works.
  4. I absolutely agree. I was just noting the most obvious mechanism for parity. There is no chance the MLBPA agrees to it.
  5. No, the capitalist in me says there should be no cap and players should be able to make as much as they can. The draft is merely a mechanism for MLB (and all pro sports) to apportion players evenly. Team control can be freely collectively bargained.
  6. Other sports have salary caps to maintain salary comps. The NBA is an outlier, but NHL and NFL definitely maintain viability of all franchises because of the cap. That will never happen in MLB and will hurt MLB longterm. That is not to say that the capitalist in me believes there should be a cap. That is a subject for a different discussion.
  7. Having lived in many parts of the country over the years, I have experienced baseball broadcasts for many different teams, major and minor. The Twins broadcasters are overall very good. Believe me, there are some really crappy announcers out there. Dick has shown to be an understated play-by-play man and a master at managing a booth broadcast. Think about some of his partners and what Dick had to do to keep the broadcast at a professional level. I am grateful for the teams we have broadcasting TV and radio. Some could be better, but all could be worse.
  8. Obviously there is a lot more to this story, but it certainly is a sad one for Romero and Twins fans. Whatever went wrong, hopefully he can correct and get a fresh start.
  9. "However, there is one potential negative; fans having to decide whether to attend Twins games or Saints games." I don't believe the Saints are having any problem getting fans to Lowertown and the Twins haven't been complaining about them. Adding the Saints as a AAA affiliate is the much better option.
  10. The closest I can think of is Detroit. Toledo is only about 45 minutes away. The Mudhens have a very nice stadium in downtown Toledo and have pretty good attendance.
  11. I believe another fun fact about La Rossa was during his previous managerial jobs, was he not the guy whose teams exploded PED's?
  12. Polanco and Arraez have limited range. I don't particularly like the shift but eliminating it would decimate the Twins up the middle.
  13. As replacements at 1st base, in addition to Kirilloff there is Rooker who I think is better at 1st than the outfield. There also is Lamont Wade Jr who proved to be adept at 1st. Kirilloff can hit for power and average. Wade can hit for average. Rooker can hit for power. The Twins need to find an adequate 3rd sacker for Donaldson can't go. Perhaps, a good utility player that can play 3rd could come back for Sano. I would want much more than that but I am not sure what the market is.
  14. I tend to agree but instead of Marwin, who isn't hitting either, I would suggest Wade. He played a pretty good defense in his few opportunities. He also has much better plate discipline. He may not hit a lot of home runs, but he gets on base and is fast.
  15. I am no expert but just eyeballing from my lazy boy it looks like Rogers' pitches have flattened out and don't have the vertical movement they used to have.
  16. Rooker is 26 I believe. There is no reason to worry about service time with him. If Kepler is injured or even if he just needs a reset I say bring Rooker up and see what he can do. Kepler has not played his normal way for a couple of weeks.
  17. This team has taken on the persona of its manager. It is very low key. There does not appear to be any fire in the belly or heart. Donaldson was brought on in part to generate that but so far, not so much. Maybe Tortuga could help in that regard.
  18. I really think you are nailing a strong question. I think Capt. Hook is going to be employed quickly.
  19. I see 40-20. Playing against the NLC and ALC divisions is an opportunity that can't be overlooked. Cleveland is still fairly good and Chicago is improved but KC and Detroit are ugly. The NLC is better on average but nothing outstanding.
  20. I can see a lot of piggyback pitching. The starters are going to have a difficult time getting stretched out with the short "training camp". Expanded rosters will help but why not combine a Rich Hill with a Randy Dobnak? Or a Devin Schmeltzer with Homer Baily?
