  1. The spouse/date dessert nibbler should have been a Seinfeld episode. I mean, he broke up with a girl because she ate her peas one at a time. "What is the deal with people who don't order dessert, and then take bites off of yours? What. Is. The Deal?"
  2. No offense to anyone in particular, but I sure hope the team isn't prone to getting that "here we go again" attitude after every losing streak, lost game, bad at bat, errant throw, sure homer that goes foul, line drive that gets caught, strike on the edge that doesn't get called, or baserunner that gets tackled and tagged out. Baseball is a tough game that requires tough minds. Go get 'em tonight, gentlemen. Can't wait for when Buxton get's his bat going and starts gliding around the bases more. Every night could be that night.
  3. Well fought game. Fun to see good defense, even if some of it was from the Angels. Upton almost took that ball, but Trout established his presence with authority. Sounded like Calhoun had a great throw earlier. Wish Rosario could have held serve, though, and made a throw of his own. I'm encouraged by the BP of late; guys picking one another up. Pressly was tremendous in relief of Rogers, and Rogers had been good before that. And of course--Romero.
  4. So many to congratulate, but I'll single out Rogers, for cleaning up Lynn (and Molitor's?) mess.
  5. Some very encouraging performances, despite the blip from Gonsalves. Still looking for Enlow to have a clean outing, but he's young. Surprised by the Melotakis move a little. He got ran out by a Buss.
  6. Buxton's D will be a shot in the arm, and with others rolling and the team on a little win streak, no pressure on him with the bat. Glad he's back.
  7. I agree with both the article and with this comment--playing for a WC game against the loser of the Boston/NY scrum doesn't seem too palatable, although that AL East race could be exciting to watch if it goes to the wire, and those teams might have to expend a lot of late season energy...but then again, we have a long season to go, so I'm not ready to anoint anyone just yet. But to the larger point of the article, is Cleveland really that good? They just don't seem that fearsome on paper right now, particularly lineup wise.
  8. Fernando has some serious mojo, on the mound and at the mic. Appointment viewing for now.
  9. Thanks for sharing those clips, especially of Graterol. Amazing play all around, starting with a nasty pitch and ending with a throw from his knees that could have put the first baseman in the dugout. Watching the box scores, it feels like its been forever since I've seen Royce with an XBH. Is it just me? Should I even care?
  10. The Yankees "Twinned" the Indians this weekend. Yikes--painful, extra innings loss today (and yesterday?). Twins might be 2 back, but they both have 17 losses. They did a nice job snatching victory from the jaws of defeat today.
  11. Thanks for adding the video. The dude has charisma. Wasn't Bob Sacamento always saying what a fun guy Romero is?
  12. Love seeing these players recognized; not to mention new guys pop on the radar. Anderson seems like he could be legit help for the big club.
  13. Okay, selective memory when selecting a sample size must have affected me. I think I blotted out the last two games. You have to do that, when you are a mediocre, journeyman relief poster like I am. Short memory; brush off bad takes and get back on the keyboard. They have now won 1 of their last 2 games, an 81 win pace. Or, as I prefer even more, they have won 1 out of their last 1 games.
  14. Let it roll. This is the same team that played the Astros and Indians tough a couple-three weeks ago. Right now, they've won two out of their last three, which is like a hundred win season. This team is awesome! Seriously, so cool to see Romero come through.
  15. I had to look up "Travelers" in order to be hip to your reference. Looks like a good show, and "grim future" certainly is one of the more common one's the current Twins could be facing. With half of our heroes either turned to dust or in the hooze-cow (???) for dabbling in the dark arts, I'm still optimistic that the Twins have at least a 1 in 14 million chance of being good this year. Not that it matters, with Theastros having acquired six starters Infinitely better than what the Twins have. Still, this Romero kid has a chance to be Marvelous. Glad he checked his pager.
  16. I believe. Why not? I created this narrative in my head about the Twins' "Magnificent Seven,"--Buxton, Berrios, Kepler, Polanco, Rosario, and Sano-- but the seventh samurai was always elusive. I'd thought for a while it would be Vargas, later it seemed fitting that a reliever might step into the role, but for the next few hours I'm going to hope that Romero is the Chosen Seventh, and he will bring balance and the universe will right itself and the Twins will start winning again.
  17. Now that I think about it, this ugly streak is the price you have to pay to enjoy a month of going 17-5 or whatever. Assuming what's wrong gets fixed or players just snap out of funks.
  18. They were left for dead last trade deadline. I'm not jumping ship yet. But man they've had an awful stretch. Isn't this what Torii Hunter's on the payroll for? To fly in and give a speech or something? I went into one of those "Escape the Room" events yesterday, with Rodney on the hill and one man already walked on base. No cell phones in the room. When I emerged an hour later, lo and behold, they'd actually held on. For now, that will be the way I "watch" games--locked in a room, with no cell phone.
  19. With each loss, Buxton is probably getting further and further inside his own head. The only thing that can make this worse is to have him come back and go on one of his horrid stretches at the plate. With the exception of Max, and Berrios half of the time, the young "core" is not looking the part. Injuries, inconsistency, flat out suckiness. Can Molitor survive this swoon?
  20. These were my thoughts exactly. Whether it is this board, or Fangraphs, or even the Ringer, I see writers talking about "asset management" as if the goal is to squeeze the best 0.1 WAR or VORP or whatever out of every single transaction. A true winning team is so much more than the sum of its parts. Curtiss K'd 5 of the 7 guys he faced last night in Rochester. That would have been nice.
  21. Rodney should mime throwing a stick of dynamite after blown saves. Twins with RISP this series: 1-8 2-10 3-12 0-4 ____ 6-34 34 men LOB. These guys stink right now. Time to regress to the mean.
