  1. i am slowly coming to realize some of the really smart internal moves they have made. This off season has been quite successful in my opinion. Let us not forget the jury is still out. We all can see the rather rapid improvements. I still think it was a bonehead move to tank the season at the trade deadline in 2018. Thats not to say they would have won it's just that nobody can convince me that you hat was fair to the fans and especially the STH's. I hope they realize what great fans we are and now that they have their "stamp" on the organization, that they never forget that.
  2. I love Buxton. The numbers on the paper do not lie. If he is not injury prone, then he certainly is not durable either. We need him on the field bottom line. If playing deeper is the answer then do it. The fact is he IS injury prone and if we can alleviate that issue then it must be a priority. AJ Pollock is injury prone. Buxton does not have to be. As of now, he is.
  3. i agree that second and short are trouble spots, but the team is ten times better with Buck out in center. He is the Most indispensable.
  4. I feel like that was a pretty darn good move to make after we lost out on all the other "top end" free agent pitchers. If you look at his career, I wouldnt be surprised to see Maeda outperform Berrios, Odorizzi, and others like Wheeler, Bumgarner and Ryu. If he slots in somewhere like 3 or 4 then I am excited. I was not that high on this free agent class of starting pitchers anyway after Cole and Strasburg. We could have absolutely done worse, or nothing at all. I like Maeda.
  5. Actually what the Dodgers got for Kenta Maeda was..ummm David Price.
  6. Time will tell how this works out. I will say this.(nobody can say I'm a straight up Falvine Hater). That was a ball-Z move by our F.O. Finally they have shown me that they can walk the walk instead of tell us about it. No more excuses. This move tells everyone that.. we are accountable, and we are about winning Now. I loved Brusdar but this is going to be a really interesting rotation with the likes of Bailey, Hill, Maeda, Piñeda(hopefully) Walker, and Chacin fighting it out for three spots. lest i forget Thorpe, Dobnak, and Smeltzer as well..I for one am pleased with the whole situation...
  7. The only way Cleveland or Chicago has a snowballs chance is if we get hit by some unforseen rash of injuries akin to what happened to the Yankees last year. For every one of the Cleveland starters except Clevenger(injury prone) and Bieber, I can argue that we absolutely should expect them to regress. And yes I am talking about Plutko,Plesac,Civale, and to an even greater extent Salazar if he ever shows up again, and Carrasco who, even though its an amazing story, does anybody really think he can become even close to what he was before the leukemia. Carrasco was never elite I.M.H.O. anyways. I have said enough about Cleveland. Over to the South Side ..i can always find a reason to laugh about them. Throwing money around in this age like they did this offseason has everybody that knows anything scratching their heads. Keuchel for multi years and G.Gonzalez pitching for them? BWAHHHHAHAHAHA. You do realize that the White Sox had arguably the worst infield defense in the MLB last year...Tim Anderson makes Polanco look like the second coming of Ozzie Smith. Without looking it up, i bet...just from knowing the names, that their outfield was way below league average as well. Mazzaro, some rookie they say is an all star before his first at bat, and a second year guy who they SAID would be an all star as well. (maybe in like 2026?). Their bullpen was and is a mess again. Giolito is the only pitcher i would want off their team and even right now he couldn't crack our rotation. They fall asleep on the bases, lose close games and get outsmarted over and Over again. Now they have 2 starting catchers, 3 starting first baseman, only one dh spot in the lineup, and not a single credible major leaguer for a back up outfielder anywhere. They non-tendered the only guy who can catch the ball and put their cf at second until the SECOND rookie us deemed ready to move up for good. The Chicago White Sox are a Train Wreck...and it will be clear to everyone by the All Star Break.
  8. every case has different unique characteristics. Taking a no risk chance on Walker is no different than what they've done with Pineda not once but twice. I would argue Walker's career has been just as good if not better than Pineda's thus far. Bailey has been performing pretty consistently if not great ever since he got healthy. These two moves would be fine. However the Rich Hill situation plays out could really put us over the top...or not.
  9. no reason to worry about a team that cant catch the ball, has rookies penciled in to start up the middle, has a weak bullpen, and has no outfield depth whatsoever.
  10. without really reading all the comments i think its naive to assume we will be all right with two rotation spots filled by AAAA guys. Some non roster invitee will surely he counted on to hold down the #4 spot. Most likely we won't need a fifth starter more than a couple times. I just hope Bailey can at least get the job done and Pineda reports in good shape. The first two months of that schedule looks brutal.
  11. i am pretty sure theres going to be some non roster invitees at Spring Training we all can complain about as well. Having Graterol as a bullpen piece is only a presumption. What if they decide to stretch him out for six weeks? What if Romero sees the Wes Johnson light and blossoms into the starter we all hoped it he would become?. Its way too early to speculate, having Walker around would be a good move no matter how its done.
  12. All i can say about him is look at his career thus far. I live in Arizona now and obviously I attend 5-7 Spring Training games a week during March(and sometimes February). If i remember right this guy held down a rotation spot for the Mariners at least 3 years. He was then part of a trade that brought Ketel Marte to the Diamondbacks prior to, I think the 2017 season and spent that entire year in the D-Backs rotation and started a game against the Dodgers in the NLDS. Why wouldn't we want him? I can't believe he's still available. This is a no brainer. Thank you for bringing it to everybody's attention.
  13. You dont find winners in the paperwork of the analytics department....but we found a winner now.
  14. if this is our impact pitching then i fear the impact will be worse, not better. Thanks again FO.
  15. Winning the division with Berrios, Pineda, Odorizzi, Bailey, and Hill is easy. winning a playoff series is impossible.
  16. Doing something, as opposed to virtually nothing is hardly a cause to get excited. Keuchel, and Gonzalez would have been better. I have seen a lot of Hill in recent years being a resident of theAz. At times Hill has surprising looked like LA's most consistent starter, better than Kershaw, Ryu, and Buehler. Whether he can sustain that remains to be seen. Bailey, as a highly touted Red's prospect has never lived up to the initial predictions. He is now though, without doubt a very good option as a #4-5 rotation piece. The two acquisitions definitely are an upgrade over any combination of Dobnak, Thorpe, Smeltzer, Littell, Graterol or Alcala. My problem as always is with the FO. This move was nothing more than a b.s. cover up to make YOU....Twins Fan forget about how they LIED about having an unlimited budget and recognizing an OBVIOUS need for impact pitching. I think i get it now. Adding Bailey and Hill signifies Impact Pitching. Impacting our loss total to rise from 61-81. just saying. Thanks for not lying to us Derek. You are absolutely right. Nobody ever asked you if the impact pitching you were gonna spend Jimmy's money on would make us better or worse. ciao
  17. I know most people nowadays think they know everything about baseball because they bury their noses in the mlb analytics almanac for nerds handbook. I will go on record to say any trade involving Eddie Rosario would be an asinine idea....I watch the games not the computer printouts. it is painful to say over and over again...ANALytics is an evaluation tool. Not a performance indicator or predictor. Eddie Rosario is a team leader and pressure performer. look at the tape of the Twins at Boston, game #3 of a three game series...bottom of the ninth. You guys...and by that i mean the "senior good old boy writers" of Twins Daily should call this the Derek Falvey fan club forum... ..Their intention this off season was never to improve this team. Its way too easy to do nothing thus never get saddled with making a mistake. I am so sick of you idiots sugar coating everything these two dolts do or justifying everything they do not do i may just vomit right now. Ride falvines coattails right to Boston and go write for the beanpole herald. to call this Twins daily is an insult to any twins fan and an aberration to baseball fans in general.
  18. gg is a term i do not understand...if his career ops is 80 why did they wait until this off season to cut him? and if you mean .800 then thats pretty good for a 2b. i mean i obviously don't know what i am talking about. The Twins will he fine eith a rotation of Thorpe, Dobnak, Smeltzer, Littell, and Graterol. we should trade some pitching depth to fill the hole at first base.
  19. In my honest opinion i do not think the Twins need be concerned with Chicago Or Cleveland threatening their division title aspirations. Cleveland is obviously not concerned with winning and Chicago is just Chicago. True that they have added quality players. Give them an A for effort. To me they fall short on outfield defense, infield defense and starting pitching. Even though they have Keuchel and Gonzalez, they are relying too much on Giolito to not regress(unlikely), Rodon to bounce back from Tj surgery(unlikely), Lopez to improve(highly unlikely), and Cease to break out(extremely doubtful). Also, what have they done with the bullpen? not much if anything. Their players don't hustle, take extra bases, fight hard when down, and generally i feel are just not winners. Thats their top dawgs fault. Unfortunately for them neither Encarnacion nor Mazzara are defensive wizards either. Who is gonna play 2nd base? Center? Do they even have a gold glover on the roster? Philosophically we beat them like a drum since 2008...and those White Sox were more talented and better managed. Lets worry about the next step...hear me Derek? To just win the Central is not gonna do it this time.
  20. for me to elaborate would be redundant. i agree 1001%. I am tired of listening to the hypocratic metaphors. I wish the Falvines would back up what they spout.
  21. shame on me...what will i do if i cant log on to a site that tells me everything is perfect while millionare front office people sit on their hands, bs me, tell ke there is no limit on spending, and do nothing. If i performed like them in my job i wouldnt last a week let alone get an extension. I get it. I remember hearing how the Yankees bring in potential free agents for a weekend and tour the finer points of their city and treat them to a beautiful weekend. hmmmm....what are we missing here. To simply say geography is a problem is a damn cop out. Do Your Job. rubber stamping everyove the Falvines is part of the Falvine problem. Not by any stretch a solution.
  22. oh this is a temper tantrum? Having a high profile upper management position for a professional sports team does not exclude you from public criticism sir. In fact i would venture to say it exposes you to much more scrutiny. I get it that your mind is all in on the Falvine administration but i am afraid to tell you that is definitely not the public opinion...hence.Anyway... Just wanted to let you know that I think the response to your post was utter garbage. The mods and writers really have no business lecturing people on decorum if they can't be civil..... from my personal mailbox...oh and this...08:59 AM, said: In no way was your post in the Falvey/Levine thread a "temper tantrum". You insulted no one. The fact that it gets called out so harshly and Tom Froemming's post got so many "thank yous" is appalling to me. This site has a strange twist on things. You have people ranting and raving about how they aren't making deals this offseason in other threads and no one tries to tether that. Then you make a light-hearted seemingly innocuous dig and it gets this kind of overreaction by a board writer. This place is life a wolfpack sometimes and the mods and writers are the worst in that regard. I guess that is the power they have.....but they sure do like to throw their weight around, don't they? They talk about being respectful and having a civil discourse on one hand, yet on the other hand they engage in some pretty petty stuff.... received today.. If you want to believe Derek Falvey is the greatest front office executive ever...that is your right. It is also my right as a Minnesotan to critique fully his every move that impacts our team. I am happy to give credit when it is due. This is after all Twins Talk right? unless i took a wrong turn and ended up on Derek and Thad's fan club forum.... just sayin....you ain't seen a temper tantrum yet.
