  1. Instead of worrying about 3 games in a foreign country for post after post I am much more concerned about the final 2 against the Tigers today and tomorrow and 8 games in 10 days against the Cleveland Indians (excuse me Guardians) to end the month. What happens in between hopefully will be a don't get swept and move on. Rocco juggles lineups so much anyway that what happens from series to series really doesn't make much difference. If everyone was healthy and available it wouldn't change Baldellilitics.
  2. At least his .207 average doesn't glare too much in the current state of hitting in MLB. Most hitters have perfected the art of swinging at strike 3 and heading back to the dug out after a typical ab. I am afraid, however, that Buxton's best days are in the rear view mirror along with Miguel's as the 2 hopes for the Twins' future fade into the limelight.
  3. I'll put it another way. Who cares about the Toronto series? It shouldn't matter and if it does it doesn't make any difference. I wonder what the price of tea in China will be next week.
  4. Minnesota Twins Bullpen Minneapolis, Minnesota Ask Rocco, he uses more relievers than a bottle of Tums. Bottom line is the staff has over achieved for the most part and its time for the bats to catch up. The 1-0, 2-1 games are over. If they don"t split today/night at a minimum the season is over. Now is time for the good teams to start getting better and the others to find their rightful place in the pecking order. Injuries, Correa (who loves $105mil, excuse me, Minnesota) with Covid not good signs for this team that could come unraveled very easily. Today will be a great indicator.
  5. How they do in the 5 games in Detroit determines how important the Jays series is. Simple as that. I would like to think that winning 1 game in Toronto is perfectly fine. This is a tough run of games period and no off day including a double header makeup until a week from today. Then its to some team in NY for 4. I just hope they win at least 3 of the 5 in Detroit and have some breathing room. They probably need to essentially sacrifice one of the Jays games depending how the pitching staff holds up in Detroit.
  6. Watched about 5 minutes of the Nationals - Marlins last night and Miami probably had about 2,000 at most in the stands and that might be an over estimate. Funny thing is that the really expensive seats right behind home plate were relatively full. I wonder if there is something "funny" going on with that since the majority of TV video is from center field directly to home plate in order to cover the pitches and then be able to complain about the umpire's call. The TV production crew can literally avoid showing all of the empty seats unless absolutely necessary. It may get to the point where some kind of incentive is offered to make sure those behind the plate seats are occupied for TV purposes. No question there are more reasons not to go to games than there are to go to games, not the least of which is the game itself. Watching the pitcher and catcher play catch and a bunch of foul balls is not great entertainment. A grounder to short is relative excitement.
  7. To me, how they do next year will be a lot easier to predict after this month's games are done. Don't look now but the Twins have won 2 straight series against first place teams. Now on to another first place team at home. Start playing like a contender now. Difference between winning and losing is a key hit here, key out there. Next year anywhere between 70 and 95.
  8. I believe they have lost the last 2 Berrios starts due to no faullt of his. If the Twins don't win today and win this White Sox series at home the season is over. I do believe that Baldelli's constant line up tinkering, over use of the bull pen and over reliance on all of the....metrics junk should have him on a very short leash.
  9. There will always be players out there in the world of baseball that would be nice to have and the existing roster will always be less than perfect. Play ball.
  10. Here is another rhetorical question. What team would not like to add another QUALITY, PROVEN starting pitcher? Just asking.
  11. "......How about Paul Goldschmidt, or how to pitch to him? That’ll impress the hell out of me, because I sure don’t.”...... At least Gardenhire is consistent. I'll never forget his "I know nothing about pitching" comment when asked about why one of his Twins pitchers pitched to a hitter in whatever way it was, quickly deflecting blame to his pitching coach. By the way, I thought baseball was a game and plenty of baseball games are on at night so those are night time game shows. At least the Tigers picked a perfect manager.
  12. He has to actually do it for a whole season but Miguel and Byron both need to step up this year. If they do all the talk about what was not done in the off season will be forgotten. Football is almost done and baseball is just around the corner again. We will soon find out about the 2020 version.
  13. Except Suzuki just finished a nice year for the World Series champs, had some huge hits for them and evidently wasn't too shabby behind the plate. The amazing thing about the Castro signing was that that was their big move for that off season and somehow he was supposed to turn pitchers like Gibson into Cy Young award winners because of his "framing" ability. Castro is a good solid Major League catcher and that is enough but he is not going to transform anybody. It was the Twins who got "framed".
  14. All of the negativity is a result of 3 games against the Yankees after winning 101 games. What if the Twins had at least won that home playoff game after dropping the 2 in NY? What if they had gone on to win the second home game and forced a game 5? What if they had won that game and played Houston for the ALCS? Would that have made the "doomsdayer" sign every free agent on the market folks any happier? My guess is no. Are Houston fans happy? My guess is no. Signing Bailey and Hill is perfect. At least wait until its time to count wins and losses again in just a few months before being critical. Then there may be no reason to.
  15. The window has been open since 1991 or 28 years going on 29. This year's Nationals are a classic example of why you simply play every game as hard as you can until it is "over". 30 teams, 162 games plus playoffs if you get there. Objective is to be good enough to contend and don't beat yourself. 2020 Yankees should be a lock to win it all but they still have to do it.
  16. At least start counting wins and losses before complaining about off season performance. Nothing like having a great off season. Just ask the Washington Redskins.
  17. Lost in all of this is whether or not Buxton and Sano, who I think are already on the Twins' roster, can finally stay active for an entire season and live up to their potential. That in itself would be a plus. In 2019 The Twins won 101 games as a team and simply did not perform against the Yankees. Looking for miracles on the free agent market would guarantee nothing and could possibly be a disruption. Its hard to improve over 101 wins and the idea of projecting a mythical roster into the playoffs is a mistake. It could also be a fact that this years Yankees really are unbeatable no matter what the Twins or any other team do so why bother. Just be happy you are not in the East and play ball.
  18. Not only did the Washington Nationals not go "all in" in 2019, but they went "all out" when they let Harper go. The Phillies went "all in" and I don't think they made the playoffs. Or maybe they did win the World Series and the Nationals winning it was a mirage. I would be very happy to see the Twins win the Central again in 2020 and then not go into a coma just because a team has NY on its unis in the playoffs.
  19. I think Bo Jackson would be better. Don't you love all the wanna be GMs?
  20. And what did the Vikings do? I am pretty sure signed an over rated free agent named Cousins who has never/will never win a playoff game. The only decent move the Reskins have made in the last almost 2 decades or actually non move by not signing him. Great example of why you don't sign free agents to huge LONG TERM contracts.
  21. I thought April Fools Day was in April. Please get off this free agent / trade kick as a miracle cure for a 101 win team. Angels have just sealed their doom by signing Rendon (I thought Pujols was the answer; where did that get them?)
  22. Not just Mauer. Max Scherzer is the only long term $20mil plus/year that has seemed to not be effected by the big bucks in a negative way. Mauer basically slept through his entire contract and relied on his natural talent and simply showing up. Look at Machado and Harper from 2019 on their new teams. Nice numbers but $30mil per year numbers? I don't think so. Plus, where did it get their respective teams? No where near the playoffs and Nats went all the way in part thanks to Harper being gone. You can't convince me that these mega contract free agents don't have a negative influence in the club house. Its only human nature.
  23. I hope that a basic nucleus from the team that won 101 games last year remains. Ideally still Kepler, Buxton, Rosario in the OF, Sano 3rd or 1st, Polanco SS or 2nd, Cruz DH, Arraez somewhere, Garver C or 1st and go from there. Name a team that pitching is not a work in progress so that speaks for itself and never goes away in April. Also, MLB must be looking at the over predominance of the 4 bagger in 2019 so even the baseball itself may make a big difference in 2020.
  24. I am no millenial; I am barely a boomer (all of which "groupism" I detest) as it concludes that behavior is the same based upon when you were born. I do not back into parking spaces unless there is a unique situation that makes it the logical thing to do. Especially if there is someone behind you backing in is very inconsiderate. As far as Gibson goes, it will be very interesting to see how he does under a coaching staff that may harness his talent. Ironic that the Twins supposed urgency to improve their pitching staff loses a pitcher to a team in order to improve their staff. I guess trading Rosario is next.
