  1. Sano has been hurt in 2 celebrations. One after the celebration in DR when he tripped on a pedestrian bridge and now this one. Nothing against the guy but his tenure with the Twins really should be over. Maybe a fresh start somewhere else would be best for him and the Twins if that is even possible now. The lineups they have been running out there recently have no weaknesses.
  2. Only time will tell but Jhoan Duran was amazing last night with routine 100mph heater and that 97-98mph splinker that Brock mentioned. In his first save opportunity he looked like he belonged out there. Have to go with him for pure "impressability" but the staff as a whole is #2 in the AL and that speaks for itself.
  3. Starting pitching no doubt and bull pen has done pretty well overall too. The classic was the 1-0 win over KC to avoid a sweep and a 3-7 record. That set them off on a 7 game winning streak and 1st place in the Central (for what that is worth now but take it). Then they drop the first game to Tampa but come back to win the next 2 with ease and take that series. Nothing better than getting used to winning and expecting to win. (I get the Os network on cable so get to see the next 4. How about 3 of those in the w column?)
  4. All I know is they are 11-8 and no question the opponents have been very helpful and the pitching staff, subject of main concern heading into the season has carried them. My goal ( and the team is very aware of that) was just to be around the .500 mark going into May. After losing the first 2 at KC, that prospect was looking out of reach. Then the 1-0 win to avoid a sweep followed by the Twins sweeping 2 in a row at home. The Tampa series is interesting in that both teams are 11-8 and we will find out of the Twins have won 7 in a row or Sox and Tigers (and Royals) lost 7 in a row. I agree about not messing with the lineup. Also glad that Twins won last 2 or 3 with Buxton not doing much. If Kepler and Correa come to life along with Buxton and Arraez its a dangerous lineup and the rest can fill in like they have been.
  5. Last night Kepler showed what it is to come out of a slow start for real. Sano getting a single to right is another bat meets ball every now and then. Last nights lineup should be repeated today for the sweep. At least when you hit .083 and go 1-4 you raise your average by 13 points. By the way, it wasn't a game winning hit. Check the rbi column.
  6. Correa must be friends with Kyrie Irving of the Nets. They meet for drinks in delusion land often.
  7. All I know is that the number 83 is a good golf score for a weekend golfer.
  8. The "Sano starts slow" excuse is just that; an excuse. He is supposed to be a professional. Is it only his supporters on this group who believe that he starts slow or does he actually start a regular season expecting to waste 20 or 30 games? If he knows he starts slow why doesn't he address that BEFORE the season starts? I wish I had had that excuse in Little League when we only played about 16 games. Hey coach, don't worry I start slow.. Coach...."Hate to tell you this but the season is over." When is the starts slow period over? 20 games, 30 games, 100 games?
  9. He has gotten hot. Game winning sac fly against the Royals in a 1-0 win and one over the Green Monster in Boston. We have seen his hotness. Unfortunately his getting hot depends upon the blind squirrel/acorn rule. Result.....083.
  10. Another Sano thread? Also showed 2 errors in either last game or 2 games ago. His leash must be 83' long. Lucky for him the Twins have clawed back to the .500 level as a result of winning 4 in a row thanks to BB and some very fortunate outcomes including the final against the Royals to avoid a sweep. Can't the coaches do something with Sano or do they just pray when he walks into the batters' box? To me (a well known hitting instructor) his stance looks very awkward.
  11. No one has ever questioned Byron Buxton's raw talent. The fact that he has honed that talent into more than just a solid Major League hitter is a testament to his dedication to improvement. The question still remains; can he stay in the lineup? The saying is ability depends on availability. Only time will tell but so far he absolutely has to be in the lineup.
  12. In other words the glass is 1/10 full instead of 9/10 empty. The only good things about yesterday's game were the W and the maligned pitching staff (mainly bull pen) getting the job done against a weak KC team. At least good to see Buxton in the box score. See what happens back at Target against 2 more Central opponents. Time to win a series. So far 2 splits and 2 series losses.
  13. If they get swept by the Royals all bets are off.
  14. With football weather and most (not just Twins) offenses in the tank, the goal for April is not to have a season threatening losing streak, Other than that, keep playing the schedule and stay somewhere around the .500 mark assuming that real baseball will begin on May 1. Having said that, Twins do need to win tonight after another no offense game last night. Biggest worry now is not the record but the fact that Sano is essentially absent, Buxton is really absent and Correa looks like $30mil down the drain. Main thing is no losing streaks because this team is not capable of winning 15 of 20 or 10 in a row. Offenses should wake up soon and the real season will begin.
  15. The low hit totals in almost every game is surprising. Worse than bad. I was afraid that the addition of Correa would have the opposite effect than planned. I wonder if the locker room effect is worse than the on field effect.
  16. Well they did salvage a split with the Red Sox. Now on to KC, and home to Detroit and ChiSox where the rubber really meets the road. Winning series is the name of the game and they need to win at least 2 of these 3 series if not all 3. Verdict still out on this team especially with Correa and Sano no shows so far and Buxton now a real no show. If the team can't score it doesn't matter what the pen does.
  17. This is like starting a thread about the fact that the sun came up this morning. Buxton is injury prone. Buxton is injury prone. Buxton is injury prone. The only question is when he plays again, how long before the next one. It is a shame but it is a fact and he should be p....d along with team mates and fans. Unfortunately he will probably sooner rather than later simply have to call it quits. Either that or learn to play hurt (see Mickey Mantle) but that isn't in today's game.
  18. I always thought that bringing in Correa at $35mil/year while the rest of the roster is "slightly" below that would be an overall detriment to the team as a whole. Time for the $35mil man to lead the way. BTW the entire Pirates payroll is $39mil. That is kind of the state of pro sports in general where some players make as much as an entire team. Not good.
  19. So far no response from the opposition. I will only add that there are 15 games left in April and if they don't go at least 7-8 after a 2-4 start (is that modest enough?) there will be a few more items to add to the list. Maybe going to Fenway will help.
  20. My "Number 3" is respect to Harmon Killebrew and there is absolutely no comparison. Last year Sano hit your bench mark 30 homers and struck out 183 times a 6-1 ratio. Killebrew did strike out 145 times one year but hit 48 homers. I say again, this is Sano's make or break year and I am all for him doing well. The odds are against it and overall he does not contribute to winning baseball games. He is scary in the on deck circle but then he has to step into that darn batters box.
  21. Per chpetit19...."He's actually a pretty darn disciplined hitter. His problem is missing balls in the zone, not chasing the ones out of the zone. " Ok he's disciplined he just can't hit. The analytics that favor the long ball are still why he remains in the league. Right now after 4 games his Mendoza Line is .001.
  22. Maybe the reason he lost weight was so it would be easier to hit his weight. All I know is that this is make or break season for Sano and to a lesser extent and different reason Buxton as far as his injuries are concerned. Sano's sheer power and ability to hit the ball a very long way (when he does hit it) has overshadowed his lack of discipline and lack of reliability on a day to day basis. Today's home run centric analytics has saved him so far.
  23. Southpaws who can fog a mirror are hard to come by. Rogers is a southpaw who can do more than just fog a mirror and they let him go for 2 right handers. Twins snookered again.
