  1. Maybe Jordan Lyles is worth a look. Getting him away from Coors Field is bound to help both his stats and his confidence.
  2. And let us not forget Delmon Young. Or maybe we should. By comparison, Rosario is a gold glove candidate.
  3. Good article! I wouldn't mind the Twins picking up any of those guys. McHugh, for example, has always been one of those players who doesn't dazzle you with velocity, but somehow he gets the job done.
  4. My guess is that the Twins keep him. I just don't think he will command all much in a trade. Maybe a couple of minor league prospects but certainly no front-line starters or bullpen aces. But hey, dream on, dream on.
  5. Count me as liking this move. Not a great deal of risk and plenty of upside. Sure, he takes up space on the 40-man roster, but in the grand scheme of things I don't think that's a problem at all. I love moves like this, always hoping that the player can live up to his potential.
  6. I enjoyed reading the AFL report and appreciate the effort. Like other Twins fans I'm very encouraged by the performance of Royce Lewis in this league. After such a frustrating regular season for him, this should help remind him and the Twins brass what he is capable of doing. On to the next level!
  7. I'm not sure that hiring Rowson will put the Marlins in the playoffs .... BUT don't knock that team too much. They have a good young core of position players and pitchers and I think they could surprise some people in 2020, at least capable of playing .500 ball. As for Rowson, I liked having him with the Twins, but also agree with the philosophy of changing hitting coaches every few years,
  8. Gordon was a fantastic high school player who hit .505 and pitched to a 0.78 ERA over 35 2/3 innings in his last year of high school baseball. Is it too late for him to resurrect those dormant pitching skills?
  9. I'm a bit indifferent about retaining Cron. He doesn't excite me all that much, but I can see the virtues of having him back for another year, especially if he's healthy.. What I'm NOT sold on is the idea of moving Sano to first base. Not sure that's the best position for him at all. I'd rather him stay at third for another year and then let him be more of a full-time DH after Cruz has left.
  10. If the Twins want to compete next year (as in winning the division and actually winning a playoff game or three) they absolutely NEED to acquire at least two more high-end starters, or at least ones who could become such a beast ASAP. I have no hope or faith the Twins will be able to compete on the free agent market for such arms. Thus, I think going "off the radar" as this article suggests, either by trades or savvy free agent signings, is the only way to go. But the only remotely attainable name on the above list I think is Chris Archer, and I fear he could be damaged goods at this point.
  11. Sigh, I have no more hopes for this team. Bring on the Timberwolves already.
  12. Noticeably absent are the couple of Japanese and Korean free agent signings in recent years. Yes they were definite busts, but it was always worth a try.
  13. Down the stretch and relying on names like Randy Dobnak and Devin Smeltzer and Cody Stashak to fortify the pitching staff .. how unlikely but totally fun is that?!
  14. Most likely they reached out to Oswaldo Arcia and Darin Mastroianni before calling LaMarre. man, what a bizarre last month this is going to be!
  15. I always feel sad when the minor league season ends. Too soon indeed! But at least this year we have the Twins in the major league playoffs (knock on wood) to either enjoy or suffer through.
  16. But in all seriousness, I'd be shocked if the Twins forked out money for any of the free agent pitchers you listed. I think we absolutely need a top flight arm in the rotation, but I don't see it happening via free agency this coming season.
  17. Yes, they need better pitchers, specifically another VERY GOOD starter or two, but I can't see that happening given the Twins' history of lackluster free agent signings. More than likely we're looking at another winter of "the ones that got away." That said, I'd give Odo the QO, but Pineda would be my priority signing.
  18. I agree; good list. You could easily point to a dozen or more players on the team who have surpassed expectations this year. One of the most pleasant surprises, one that not many people mention, has been Adrianza. He's currently batting .287 (which is down from a week ago) and his OBP is .371. Who guessed that he was even capable of putting up those kind of numbers. especially considering how cold he was the first month of the season. Sano, Garver, Cruz; Duffy; all these guys have performed much better than i had thought they would.
  19. Brusdar Graterol? Yes, by all means bring him up. But forget September. Either call him up this next week so he's eligible for the post-season or don't even bother. At this point I'd also consider giving him starts too, unless the rest of the starters turn it around and start putting up blanks.
  20. I hope the strong game by Perez is the start of MORE quality starts by the Twins. That starting rotation has been looking ugly lately, so it was refreshing to see a strong start again. And nice games by the forgotten guys, Schoop and Cron too. Now we just have to forget this win came against a weak Tigers team.
  21. You could certainly say that Cave was struggling earlier in the year, but lately he's been hitting very well. In his 19 AB so far in August he is batting .421. Not bad at all!
