  1. Excellent article. I'd love for Kepler to enter Yelich territory. And as you've written, it's not that far-fetched a scenario. Man, that would be sweet!
  2. No, the sky isn't falling .. but it's awful cloudy outside. Too many "ifs" and "maybes" and expecting some of the breakout players from last year to play as well again this coming season as they did last year. Doubtful that will happen again. Sure, we could win the division again with the current roster, but we still don't have the arms in the starting rotation that will take us past the first round. And who's on first?
  3. Yeah, what is the plan now? Was there ever a plan? You would think that the front office would target a player (like Cruz last year) who is willing to sign with the club. If not Player A, then settle for Player B. But why is this process taking so long? I think this waiting game only offers us less choices and mediocre ones at that.
  4. I'd love to have Archer, if and only if, he can regain the form he had with Tampa Bay a few years back. What happened to him in Pittsburgh? It's like he's not the same pitcher any longer.
  5. Based on his youth and tools (I read that his curveball has a high spin rate, for what that's worth) and the fact that in the not too distant past he was a highly rated prospect in the Braves system. Sure, the past has passed, but I still think this was a good signing. He's still relatively young at 27, so maybe Wes Johnson can work some magic on him.
  6. You're right. And not only that, very little has been written about the Wisler signing this off-season. But I think that could rank as one of the Twins' better moves after all the dust has settled.
  7. Most of us are seduced by the idea of a power-hitting first baseman, or even expect such skills in these homer-happy days, but I still place some value on a player that can field the position well too. None of these names tossed around scream "sign me". to my ears, but I think I'd rather have a veteran with warts than an unproven rookie at that position.
  8. Good article! After an initial loud groan upon reading about the signings of Bailey and Hill a few days ago, I'm now .... well, not excited, but at least optimistic that Bailey can be a good or very good starter in our rotation. Reading more about his stats last year leads me to believe that he might finally be ready to fulfill the promise he had all those years ago when he first came up with the Reds. Okay, he's not the ace we've been hoping for these past few months, but I do feel like he'll be much better than Perez was last year, and might even look as impressive as Odorizzi was. Or at least that's my hope at this point. Meanwhile, I still hold out hope for a trade to acquire another arm.
  9. You wrote it already: if Buxton can stay healthy, and keep those strikeouts down, he's the one.
  10. Well, who knows. Maybe at least one of these guys is worth taking a chance on. I mean, who even remotely thought that Anibal Sanchez would come back from the dead and put together two solid years in a row? Maybe Aaron Sanchez could do the same?
  11. I'll jump on the Walker bandwagon too. With the dwindling choice of free agent pitchers still out there, he seems to be the most interesting one, or at least the one with the most upside. .
  12. I realize his innings, or the number of pitches, will be restricted this year, but I want to see him starting games. We need a starter with electric "stuff" and Brusdar seems to have it. Let's get him out there and see what he can do for as long as he can do it.
  13. What's the consensus on Graterol for 2020? In the best-case scenario that he makes the club out of spring training, is he a starter or do they stick him in the bullpen again?
  14. Let's throw in autographed copies of all the Husker Du albums on vinyl and see if that does the trick! Then again ...
  15. Spiked egg nog or not, I'd be happy with most of those scenarios. But that reindeer of reality tells me nothing remotely like that is coming down the Twins' chimney this year.
  16. Interesting to read details about this guy ... but darn it , you teased me with that photo. My first thought was: Yes! We had just nabbed some hot young prospect from Texas! Oh well, I'll keep hoping ...
  17. I hope you're right but I'm still pessimistic. I admit I'm impatient and disappointed in the lack of signings. but it seems to me like the Twins continue to play some sort of waiting game rather than being more aggressive, or proactive, and really making an earnest attempt to acquire what they need to make the team better.
  18. I agree, The Mets would want some much better players or prospects. But as others have already remarked, I doubt they are even thinking of trading him at this point.
  19. I'm happy to have him back, but I have the feeling that this may be the last "name" free agent we end up signing before the new season starts. Time to make a trade and get that starting pitcher we need. Arizona? Colorado?
  20. I agree, I think building in-house is always the best way to go. But that's contingent on the front office drafting better pitchers and developing them properly. For the most part, that has never happened in Minnesota. The best starting pitchers in the past two decades (Santana and Liriano) were either acquired by trade or as a (non-direct) result of the Rule 5 draft.
  21. Actually, I like this idea of signing one of those types to a minor league contract, with the spring training invite or whatever. Sure, Sanchez was the most obvious recent example of a pitcher coming back from the dead, but it's not like he's the only one in the past decade or two. Even the Twins picked up Carl Pavano after his aborted Yankees stint and turned him into a reliable starter for a couple of years. All things are possible, and at this point I'm ready to try anything to improve the rotation.
  22. If Bird is finally healthy he might be worth a look, especially at the cheaper salary. He can launch some bombs when he's not hurt.
  23. The Red Sox went out and signed Martin Perez. No great loss, but at least they did something. Still waiting for that BIG Twins trade or signing. I'm starting to get the feeling it's going to be dumpster diving time again.
  24. I'm becoming less and less optimistic that the Twins will acquire an "impact arm" for the rotation. I still think a trade is more likely than a free agent signing, but I'm starting to feel pessimistic on all fronts at this point. Other teams have been active in recent weeks, but not the Twins. Sigh. The beat goes on.
