Taylor Rogers signs with Giants

3 years & $33M? Hard pass. He might be a useful pitcher still, but he's unlikely to be consistently elite going forward. Good for him to get that kind of money coming off a pretty bad season, but that's not smart use of funds for the team.

It seems to convey an air of desperation by the Giants....."We gotta sign somebody!"

As much as I'd have liked for the Twins to have extended him, I'm happy for him that he got the money & he'd be playing with his brother. A great player & guy, he deserves it. Wish him the very best.

If I were the Giant manager, I'd make a practice of subbing Tyler for Taylor in the middle of at bats, just to mess with people.

I'm SUPER happy for Taylor Rodgers.  He's a genuinely good dude.  I'm also SUPER happy he'll get to play with his brother.  I'm also SUPER happy the Twins didn't do that kind of a deal for him....as cool as it would have been to see him back with the club.

Agree everyone.  I always liked Taylor and I'm glad he's playing with his brother.  But at 3 yrs and $33 million that's an overpay.  

Free agent contracts are stupid this year - long and expensive.  I think this Twins F.O. is going to have to change their way of thinking or we might be left in the cold frequently by sitting and waiting things out.

I want the Twins to actually field a team with a set of twins.  So I'd been hoping for Tyler to be in Minnesota rather than vice versa.  One day I'll get my wish.

And the Twins thought he was expensive in his last arbitration year. Good for Taylor and you get to play on the same team with your brother.

It's one thing to spend big on position players and starting pitching, but history suggests teams are better off developing their relief options internally. 3 years and $33M for a reliever might be ok if they were in their prime, but for a 32 year-old reliever coming off his worst season as a pro? Odds are pretty good that he's going to have one good season, one meh season, and one bad one.

All the quotes about the money - his annual salary is the same as we gave Joey Gallo

With all of the hype I'm hearing on here about Gallo one would think we'd look to extend him. Something like 6/96 maybe? Or if we have to 6/108. But to get the AAV down a bit possibly 9/135.

That's why we can't do 60. I'm thinking more like 50/520. This way he'd only be 79 when he hangs her up. Besides, an 89 y/o wouldn't have any trade value at all would he?

I'm not a Christmas doer, but Merry Christmas Twins fans.

Is that an overpay? Yes. Would overpaying by a few million when you you're $40 million under last year's payroll and the list of things to spend it on is shrinking daily have really mattered? No. I'd take Taylor back in a heartbeat. I don't care whether we "win" the signing or not.

Look at the Astro’s reliever resigning - this signing of Rogers, and it appears $11 million for a “standard plus” reliever is at that level. Assuming Fulmer would be there as well - two years at a minimum.

Inflation - making up ground for Covid years - players cost money!!

We need to sign either Hand - Britton - Fulmer. Have the $ and a supposed desire to win. Get it done!

Eovaldi for depth for next 3 years at the top of the staff……extend Mahle - Gray with decent results through May. Maeda to pen for even more depth & competency!! Extend him with decent early results!

If Eovaldi and 3 years is too much to ask, at least sign Kluber for a year to enable Maeda to work out of pen for at least a couple months.

My assumption was Vázquez would talk up Eovaldi with management but doesn’t seem to be the case, at least not out in the open. Maybe Kluber this year and make a trade for pitcher, if needed, in July?
