  1. Always glad to see multi hit games from the top two prospects on the Top 20 list. But 30% of that group is out with injuries. Don't recall how many were injured in previous years, but this seems to be too many.
  2. Do you recall the year when Sano was recovering from TJ surgery and Buxton was off all year with an injury I don't recall. Read once that much of the summer was spent by the two going to the complex to work out in the morning, then fishing together in the afternoon. Yes, I suspect they do feel like brothers. [sorry bighat, didn't see your post until after I did this one]
  3. So happy to see the good Lewis Thorpe back on the mound for Rochester. A bit concerned that he only went 5.0 innings, but 8 K's will go a long way to getting up to 90 pitches quickly. Now lets see him get on a roll and have two, three more games like this. My concern is Romero who thru 27 pitches to get thru one inning. This kid has fantastic stuff, just can't seem to take that final step. Can we assume that Gonsalves will be activated any day? There is an old farmer saying that, "the cream always rises to the top." Well in Rochester, the cream is certainly looking like Luke Raley. They are what, a third thru the season? Project out his numbers and you have a .300 average, high .800's OPS and 20 home runs. Nobody knows more about these minor league kids than you, Seth. Would really be curious to know your thoughts and expectations about Sands?
  4. Game got way too late to watch the last 5 innings. Got up and looked at the box score, wanted to see if Arraez played. He did and as usual, got a hit. Was surprised to see it was a double. Also good to see that we had the good Duffey pitch last night, although not certain what their lineup was like by the time he got into the game. Looking at your chart above, can't believe how rested the bullpen is. A little concerned that our pitching staff has given Seattle 11 runs in these three games, but sure like the 36 we have scored. Let's go for the sweep and guarantee another winning road trip. And how bout that Preakness yesterday. I was rooting for the horse without its jockey!
  5. Every day I click on the Cedar Rapids box score hoping to see Wander Javier in the lineup. Every day I have been disappointed. Kind of ugly results again yesterday, 1-3. Was hoping Smeltzer would be superman, but I guess he is just a normal human after all. Hopefully, he will be stellar next time out. Which is what I am hoping we see from Lewis Thorpe tonight.
  6. Now win one of two and take another 4 game series. Hell, win'em both and guarantee a winning road trip.
  7. I really like what Schoop has been doing for the Twins. If it continues, I would like to see the Twins extend him. Expect the problem is going to be that he will want a longer term deal than the Twins will want to do. Meanwhile, this is a great week for all of us to see what Arraez can do, which is get hits and get on base. Hopefully, that will continue into the big leagues and he will confirm he is their next option at second base. Can't wait to see him in a game, unfortunately, it probably won't come until Monday in Anaheim.
  8. Thanks, Steve. Hopefully, the Twins will draft several college players in the upcoming draft and the Kernels will have a winning second half that will qualify for the playoffs. I guess if you are going to have one good half, it is better to be the second half which can carry a team into and thru the playoffs.
  9. Find the use of Stewart as a 'Primary' pitcher interesting. He has twice been called up to start double headers for the Twins, thus, appears to be the next man up as a starter. Could they also be working to get him up here to help their bullpen? By bringing him into games later in games they are getting him used to doing something other than traditional starting. Could they be preparing him for some type of role in their bullpen, either a long role or piggybacking with one starter who doesn't pitch deep into games? There is no question the Twins have a need for more quality relief innings. This may be a way to get some of those from Kohl Stewart. Another advantage would be that he is then ready to step into a starting role, if/when it is needed. What a game from Diaz and several others at Fort Myers. Don't see three home run games very often. Hopefully, Smeltzer pitches another gem tonight.
  10. Should be exciting to see Urbina play when the DSL opens in a bit over a month. Would really like to see him tear up that league. Although it has to be tough for 17-year old kids to leave their home for the summer in the D.R. Speaking of that, does anyone know if any of these kids have a problem getting out of Venezuela with everything going on there? Doesn't seem to have any effect on the many Venezuelan's currently on the Twins roster.
  11. I did a similar exercise about a month ago. Came up with pretty much the same list, thinking that there are 7 guys that are most likely going to need to be added: Jax, Raley, Alcala, Graterol, Smeltzer, Duran and Javier. Then there is the next group that will take some thought about whether to add or not. That includes: Cabbage, Blankenhorn, Hackimer, Poppen, Wiel, Stashek and Diaz. Wouldn't be surprised if at least one the this group is also added, maybe two. After that, took a look at who will be gone from the current roster and who could be DFA'd. Had way more than 8 players, including guys like Morin, Magill, Mejia, Moya, Vasquez, Torreyes. Add in a couple of the free agents who will no longer be around (Pineda, Reed, Castro, Schoop, Gibby, Odorizzi) and there shouldn't be a problem adding 8 or 9. The one thing we can cound on, however, is we are going to see a lot of turnover on the 40-man come November.
  12. I think you may have missed one of the most important young prospects, Jeremy. Wander Javier signed on July 2, 2015. Unless there is something unusual with his signing, he would be Rule 5 eligible this December. Exchanged a couple comments with Seth about him recently. Gotta expect he will be protected, but he has played very little since signing...a few at bats in 2016 in the DSL and then most of the 2017 season at Elizabethton. Have one other question, Jeremy. A high school senior who is 19 years old when drafted could be treated like the college kids and would have only 4 years protection. That is correct, isn't it?
  13. Was wrong about Arraez. Thought he would struggle for a week or two, then begin putting up multi-hit games. Two games at AAA, two hits in each game. Makes it look easy, eh? Also great seeing Rortvedt adjust to AA with hits in both games, including two last night. The situation in Rochester is just plain ugly right now. Gotta expect there isn't a lot of interest in this team by the local fans. Every winter management goes out to add a bunch of guys for AAA who should give the big team depth and the AAA team a chance at the playoffs. Even though several of the pickups last winter looked like a good fit, it sure ain't working.
  14. Got a question for Seth, or whomever may know. Are we getting close to Lewis moving up to Pensacola? And could they be waiting for Javier to come out of EST so that he can go directly to Fort Myers?
  15. What I was wondering about, Seth, is whether anyone knows if the Twins spent the International dollar allocation they traded for late last winter?
  16. Expect Arraez will struggle for a week or two, then be his normal self with a half dozen multi-hit games out of every ten. Great seeing Rortvedt move up to Pensacola, hopefully, his results with the bat continue as they were in Fort Myers. What a nice start for Colina. Could be another arm for a future Twins bullpen? I read something on one of the posts yesterday about young players signed by the Twins. One was first name Enmanuel something. Don't recall reading about him previously. Was he someone who was signed with the extra dollars they got from that trade this winter? If not, does anyone know if they have used it?
  17. A high ankle sprain bothers me, especially for a catcher. Hopefully, it is a couple weeks and doesn't linger all season. Duff looked so good in his inning last weekend. But last night he was like a deer in headlights. Come on, Duff, the Twins need ya!
  18. Thanks, Seth. And that is great news as he edges closer towards being with the Twins. Also saw that Arraez moved up to Rochester. Curious if he will stay or is short-term while Gordon is on the IL....again.
  19. Yes he is. I see he was traded to the Twins from the Dodgers a year ago. Don't remember who/what we traded to get him. Anyone?
  20. Ryne Mason is another member of that 2016 draft who has a chance. All of the first seven picks have become legitimate candidates to make it. Speaking of that draft, any word on what Benninghoff is doing? Is Balazovic now the second best pitching prospect in the organization? Graterol should be in Minnesota by mid-to-late next year. Will Balazovic follow in 2021 to form a trio to be reckoned with?
  21. Nobody is talking about it, but I see Perez' problem being the fact his routine was messed up this week. Leaving for paternity leave, not doing what he normally does between starts, seeing his son born, etc. So not surprised at all when he was a bit off early in the game. Plus that second home run came after the hitter should have been out as that pitch was clearly a strike. Have noticed that Cruz didn't appear to be his normal self for some time. Expect a few weeks off may be very good for him. Hopefully, it isn't something that drags on all season. Also surprised when Astudillo led off. More surprised he was catching in his first game back...especially from a leg injury. Getting right handers into the lineup, could see him at third with Gonzalez in left as a better lineup. Going to be real tough getting all three catchers at bats going forward. The way Garver ahs been performing, he has to be in the lineup at least half the time.
  22. Thorpe had a good outing, except for the back-to-back home runs. Has been a concern for him since he came back from the two years off. Can't remember if he gave up too many round trippers before. So for him, it probably isn't the major league ball theory, or at least not entirely the problem. Guess we will have to see if he can make progress with that concern as everything else is looking like he belongs in the Twins rotation at some point. Has Raley surpassed Wade as the next outfielder called up should the need arise? Can't wait until tonight to see if Balazovic can follow up last week's start?
  23. What an ugly day in the organization, at least as far as the results were concerned. But Smerltzer is making us take notice. A few more games like this and the Twins are gonna have to consider giving him a call next time the need arises. Although he isn't on the 40-man and the whole options thing will come into play. Was looking at Lewis and the fact he only has stolen 6 bases in 11 attempts. Looked at last year and saw he was only successful in 6 of 10 at Fort Myers, or nearly the same results. Stole a ton of bases earlier at Cedar Rapids, 22 of 26. I know the FSL ballparks are bigger than most minor league parks. Is it also farther between bases?
