  1. You say that Larnach, Duran and Gonsalves is too much. Then you give up more by suggesting Larnach, Thorpe and Gordon. Bad Deal, bad, bad, bad!
  2. Another dismal day in the win-loss column. Also tough seeing the Wings get so close to .500, then slide back. Saw Moya have a good game, thought, has he put his problems behind him and is pitching better of late. NOT. In his prior three appearances he pitched a total of 4.0 innings while giving up 6 earned runs...2 in each game. And Pensacola just can't get back to winning and is now under .500 after their fantastic start. Good seeing Larnach hit well at AA. Kirilloff seems to have put his injuries behind him and is hitting like the player we know. Currently hitting .281/.760 OPS, can he get over .300/.800 by the season end? Ober had four shutout starts in April before missing all of May and June. He came back with two more shutout starts before his last game. With another excellent game yesterday, he is having one heck of a season. Is he someone we should be getting excited about? Or is he another minor league phenom who doesn't make it into a future starting rotation? The injuries don't help, but the good news is that he isn't Rule 5 eligible until after next season...so there is time to find out who he is. This Steer kid sure is off to a good start to his professional career. Seeing he was a third round pick, maybe it shouldn't be all that surprising.
  3. Great seeing Wells have his first great outing since returning from his long absence. Could he be a second Aussie starting pitcher to push his way to the Twins over the next couple years? Second, or third everyone's comments about Lewis. Also fun following Willie Joe Garry, Jr's second year with the organization. Could he? Could he?
  4. Not a good day in the win-loss column. And dang'it, those Red Wings weren't able to win and get back to .500. Unfortunately, Pensacola's loss means they did get to .500. Bah humbug! Nice game for Lewis. Hopefully, he will keep hitting the rest of the year as he has the past several weeks. Unfortunately, there isn't enough time left to get his traditional stats up where we like to see a big time prospect. But that's ok if he keeps showing us the first three months are behind him. Wander Valdez is off to a heck of a start in the GCL. Meanwhile, that other Wander hasn't had a good game since his recent 4 hit night which is looking more like an aberration. Is it time to start watching that other Wander more closely?
  5. Seeing Hendriks perform so well brings mixed emotions. Am happy for the young man. Am sad as I wanted him to do well for the Twins. Then disappointed when we lost him. But he really points out how difficult it is to find, and keep, quality relievers. Someone correct me if I am wrong, but the A's released him last year before bringing him back? And now he is one of the best in the game. Finding a great reliever is almost like catching lightening. There just aren't many Rivera's or Nathan's out there...you know, guys that are great year after year after year.
  6. Excellent, Jeremy. Have been waiting for this and future articles. I see some of those extra dollars used to extend all four of your 'core'. Yes, that includes Rosario, who I view and the heart and soul of this team. I also see Cron as more valuable to this team than most, thus, see him also being extended for a few years this off season. Don't see the Twins trading for a starting pitcher between now and July 31. Problem I see as who will be better than the five we are running out there. If they do, however, it is going to be someone who is younger who is guaranteed to be around for several years. If they do make that trade, do they then trade one of the current three who are going to be free agents? I look for the Twins to do nothing regarding starting pitching before the deadline. Then look for them to extend one, or two, of Gibson, Odorizzi or Pineda in August. The trade I do see them making is to get at least one dominant reliever. Could include several very good prospects for someone with a couple years on their contract. Or lessor prospects for a very good rental...like Smith.
  7. I expect that Rosario, along with Berrios, will be the first ones the FO will work on extending this coming offseason. Last night was a good example of why Rosario is the heart and soul of this team. I doubt he is going anywhere, unless he and his agent have unrealistic expectations. I also suspect the Twins think more highly of Cron than most fans. I look for him also being extended this winter...although I may be among the minority in those thoughts. But you could be right and they may see that in house replacements are ready and will be looking for someplace to save money while spending it on Rosario, Berrios, Buxton, et. al. I see you are in agreement, however, with the main point of my previous comment...that one or two of this group at the most will be regulars on the Twins roster by 2021 and beyond. What management must get right is getting a return for the four that aren't...the biggest return possible.
  8. Stashak had a perfect inning, Allen did not as 3 walks isn't encouraging. Rochester is back to 1 game under .500. Can they get even today? Meanwhile, after an amazing start Pensacola is only 1 game over .500. The nice start by Dobnak has been typical, the hitting not. Looks to me like there are 6 first base/corner outfielders in the high minors that have a legit chance of not only making the Twins, but being very good. Unfortunately, I don't see room for more than one, maybe two making it as long as Cron, Rosario, Buxton and Kepler are around. And I don't see any of that foursome going anywhere in the next four or five years. So who among Rooker, Raley, Davis, Diaz, Kirilloff and Larnach makes it? Will one or more of the others be part of trades over the next 12 days? Or will it be next winter or next summer?
  9. Eddie, Eddie, Eddie. Now maybe the team will get their "swagger" back and clean up some of those mental errors.
  10. I will be shocked if Arraez isn't the Twins starting second baseman in 2020. Not certain what Astudillo's role will be. Will he be a backup/third catcher who also plays several other positions, when needed? Will he be the primary backup catcher behind Garver? Will he be in Rochester and a phone call away when a catcher is injured? Or will he be playing elsewhere? Doubt he would bring much in a trade, so my guess is the last option doesn't happen. As for this year, expect he will remain on the DL another three weeks (until August 11). He will then be sent out on a rehab assignment and return on September 1. That assumes neither Garver or Castro are injured.
  11. Lots of good days on the hill today, Thorpe, Duran, Palm and Gross. When Garry was drafted last year, he was very raw. He was an interesting pick who with his play this year is beginning to look like an interesting prospect. Don't know what to think about Davis. Is he for real? If so, how does he fit into the Twins future? Speaking of that future, don't know what they are going to do over the next 13 days. Will there be a couple smaller rentals? Or will there be a big blockbuster trade that will shock all of us? The strength of the organization, especially in the high minors, is in the outfield. That is also the strength of the Twins. Will they shock us with a blockbuster trade including one of the three young starters?
  12. Excellent article, Jeremy. A lot to think about and agree with everything you said. Looking forward to what you have coming.
  13. Interesting that you didn't include 18-year old Anthony Escobar with the GCL group, Seth. He was a starter last year in the DSL and started a couple games for the GCL Twins before doing long relief his last two times out. His 1.84 ERA is second best among the five starters with 2 or more starts and his 0.61 WHIP is the best...and yes, this is a small sample size. Personally, I would put him amongst the better prospects in the organization, although knowing he is very young and a long ways off. But that's just me.
  14. Any news on what Rooker's injury is and how long he will be out? Don't know what Wiel's future is with the Twins with Cron ahead of him and Diaz one step behind. Do you know why Sammons only went 2 innings? Results didn't look all that bad. Saw that Larnach was in left field with Kirilloff in right. Expect one will be a Twin in a couple years and the other probably gone to another club...unless one is moved to first base. Was that Benninghoff's longest start in his professional career? Great seeing that young man starting to get some positive results. Also curious to see Escobar coming out of the bullpen for multiple innings. Looks like the Escobar we know was on the mound in his second relief appearance. So that's three great appearances and one clunker since coming stateside.
  15. Way to sloppy to win. Pineda was all over the place early and never really got all that sharp. Defense played like they have been off for a week...Sano, Kepler and Schoop's error. Add in Castro who seemed out of it all night. Toss in the inability to get that big hit when needed and you have a winnable game move into the loss column. Will be interesting to see if they get after it today...or will they lose three for the first time this year?
  16. Speaking of this stretch, they will be helped if Buxton is healthy and both Rosario and Cron come off the IL by tonight...or before the A's for Cron. My question is who is going down when that happens? Expect Cave goes when Rosario is activated. But who goes when Cron comes back? If it comes down to sending Arraez down or getting rid of Adrianza, I don't see them DFA'ing Adrianza for 5 weeks of Arraez. I also don't see them sending Arraez down as he has been playing too bloddy well. Do they cut back to 12 pitchers for a few weeks? If so, the low man of the totem pole, experience wise, is Littell and he has pitched better than several others. Will there be a trade in the next few days involving someone from the 25-man roster? Strap on your stirrups, it is gonna be one fun ride for the next couple weeks...both on the field and off!
  17. Not looking at this as one series, rather looking at the entire 9 game homestand versus the Mets, A's and Yankees. Will be happy if we have a winning homestand, 5-4, then move on to August and a playoff run.
  18. What a fantastic morning seeing the big night Javier had. Only problem is it was on a day when the opposing hurlers were serving up balls that everyone was hitting. Now lets see him put a streak of good games together to ignite his finish to this season. Bit disappointing seeing Jax have his second consecutive so-so game. Any word on his health? Great seeing Smeltzer put up another great start. Could he be part of the Twins rotation in 2020? Or could he be elsewhere next week?
  19. Stashak is someone that has flown under the radar for some time, at least for me. Looking at his numbers, the higher up the ladder he climbs the better he has done until he is now pitching his best as a pro in AAA. Could he be the one to make it AND make a difference? Your thoughts, Cody? Stashak was Rule 5 eligible last year and wasn't selected. Expect there is a bigger risk this year? There are a handful of players who are at risk of being lost in the Rule 5, players they won't have room to protect. Will be very disappointed if the Twins don't trade at least a couple of these bubble guys for lower level prospects from A or rookie ball.
  20. Thanks for an excellent update on the Kernels, SD. One question that I'll bet many are thinking about deals with Javier. It seems like he hasn't had a hit in as long as I can remember (2 hits in his last 10 games and 4-64 in the second half). I assume you see a lot of their games. Does he look like someone who can be a good hitter and is just having the worst streak imaginable? Or is something broken that needs a big fix? The Twins are going to have several 40-man roster candidates who won't get added this November. Will Javier be one of them?
  21. Great seeing big games from both Larnach and Kirilloff. Looks like we can put our concerns about Kirilloff behind us. Just took him awhile to settle in after battling that wrist injury the first two plus months of the season. I will second Aerodeliria's comment above for Kirilloff, please don't trade him!
  22. I have stated I would be happy had we won one of three this weekend. I am more than happy with two wins. I will be elated should the Twins sweep the Tribe. Speaking of the Tribe, today's game may be the biggest game of the year for them. Lose three out of the break to fall 8.5 back of the Twins and their hopes to win the division may be toast...burnt toast. Still get antsy when both Duffey and Parker are on the mound. Duffey had that deer in the headlights look again last night. Does anyone have a pill filled with confidence they can give him?
  23. I think I saw Rogers warm up an inning earlier, when Parker was trying to find the strike zone. Watched the game and can't remember the exact score in the 7th, but it was closer if I am not disremembering.
  24. Agree that his push ups were bush. But you throw at his body if you are sending a message, not at his or anyone else's head.
  25. Has anyone looked at how much those 23 teams were over? Someone could have gone over by just a few thousand to be included amongst those 23. So spending 100% of this year's allotment may not be all that different than some/most of those 23. I don't understand all the angst about the Twins spending 100% of their allotment this year. When I look at their picks, I see they signed 32 of 41. That's a lot more than most/all years before last year. They signed all of their first 26 picks except the Canadian lefty taken in the 17th round. Who would you want them to sign that they didn't? And are you certain that pick could be signed for $445,000 ($125,000 max plus $320,000 (5% of allotment))? I just don't understand all the griping about this year's draft.
