  1. Wonder what they think about the acquisition of Wilk, potentially to start Saturday. It's a good way to sow clubhouse discontent in a real hurry.
  2. I saw that too. **shakes head** Can we break out the pitchforks now or should we wait until we hear the company lie? Oops, darn auto correct. I meant "line". Or did I?
  3. I actually don't think so. Terry Ryan was more in love with his own prospects. He wouldn't go outside midseason unless he had to. If Wilk does start Saturday it speaks volumes as to what Falvey thinks of Berrios specifically and the Twins pitching prospects in general. At least two should be promoted to AAA.
  4. The Twins may not be saying anything publicly, but their actions sure indicate that Berrios will start Saturday. Duffey threw 15 pitches Sunday and 18 yesterday. Not going to be him. Haley looked awful Sunday. I'm almost surprised he didn't land back on the DL - perhaps he still will. No way is it him IMO. Gibson will not have been down for ten days by Saturday. Can't be him. Hurlbut pitches tonight. Won't be him. Wheeler, Slegers and Turley all pitched Monday. Wheeler pitched poorly. And if the plan was to bring up Slegers or Turley, they would logically have pitched longer than they did on Monday. That leaves Mejia and Berrios as realistic choices. Mejia, who pitched poorly in his last outing, would be slated to start tomorrow. If he does, that pretty much makes it official.
  5. Mijares pitched briefly (and very poorly) at AAA in mid 2007 and went back down to AA. It looks like he missed the early part of 2008, started with the GCL Twins in June of 2008, moving up to Fort Myers and then the Rock Cats before coming up in from AA in September of 2008. As I recall that was largely a case of the Twins wanting him to get more innings and the minor leagues were already done. Plus Mijares started the next season at AAA. Wasn't there very long and perhaps should not have been in any case, but he did.
  6. Sure, but not if you don't think they are ready. I know there is a school of thought that says promoting to MLB from AA is fine. I don't agree with it, but I know many do. My opinion is that there is a value to being at AAA for prospects. The competition is better. But they are also hanging around with some players that have MLB experience. They are hopefully learning from them what it takes to make it in the show. The other school of thought is that AAA should basically just be injury replacements. It remains to be seen what school Falvey and Levine belong to.
  7. I'm not saying people are wrong by saying the Twins have promoted from AA. But I honestly can't think of recent examples and lack time to check.
  8. I wish we could tag users with a "c" or "p" to indicate their current opinion on whether the Twins are truly contenders. Sending Pressly down and calling up Burdi, for example, because it is believed that he is better now only makes sense to a contender. I know some people are fine with calling up from AA. Personally, I prefer to see how a guy does in AAA first. I don't think this team is a contender and therefore I don't think it makes sense to bring up Burdi, who may not be ready. Do I think he is ready for AAA? Yep.
  9. I'm not really sure what the org opinion of Curtiss is. He's not even listed among their top 30 prospects. He's allowed substantially more baserunners than Melotakis or Burdi. Of the 3, Melo is by quite a bit the oldest (26 next month). IMO Melo should have started the season at AAA. If he had, perhaps he would be ready to help the MLB team now.
  10. It would be a vastly different story if Chargois and Reed were healthy and Burdi was ready. I think Burdi is still a couple months away. I think he needs to be promoted asap and see how he fares against somewhat better competition.
  11. Falvey and Levine really haven't had a chance yet to weed the minor league garden. I suspect there will be many changes this offseason. The previous regime failed to hold the development staff accountable IMO. Too much country club attitude. Seriously, AAA pitchjng coach Stu Cliburn was hired by Andy MacPhail. Cliburn has literally coached almost every pitcher that has come up the ladder since he started in 1993. One notable exception is Brad Radke. It just happened that Radke advanced in the system a year ahead of Cliburn. Many have noted that he was one of the last solid career pitchers drafted and developed by the Twins. A lot of people probably would have noticed the timing coincided with Cliburn's hiring a long time ago. I am sure he's a wonderful person, but that isn't what he is paid for. He's paid to develop pitchers. Why am I picking on him? Well, his longevity for one. Second, his now infamous quote regarding Jose Berrios, something like "I don't know why he was so good in AAA and so bad in MLB." Dude, you are PAID to know why and then try to fix it. Could Cliburn have been playing coy to protect Berrios? Sure. But Molitor hasn't been shy about giving a specific reason.
  12. I put little stock into any ST stats other than maybe the last week or so. Prior to that there are so many non-major leaguers playing the stats are pretty meaningless. Also, every player has their own pace of getting ready for the season. The only time ST numbers are meaningful is if you have a rookie trying to win a roster spot. How does he look vs MLB competition? And even then you really have to almost be there in person to judge it.
  13. Gibson allowed 3 runs in his first AAA start. Gibson has allowed 5 in 6 starts. But he doesn't belong up here.
  14. My wife and I were at a place where all the seats were recliners. Eden Prairie I think. Some mall with a Target and JC Penney store in it.
  15. I still believe it's a product of overuse last year, especially in the first half. It is common for guys with that kind of workload bump to struggle the next season. A tick in speed for his slider probably means it has a tick less movement and break. Hence, rocketing out of the stadium. One would expect arm fatigue to result in less velocity, but higher velocity might simply mean he is exerting more to compensate for fatigue.
  16. At some point the "blame" of a top prospect busting out lies more on the player development staff and less on scouts. Every scout and GM knows who has the best talent/skills now. Getting those abilities to translate from prep or college to MLB is the job of minor league coaches and staff.
  17. Joe Mauer's walk up music should be "Yesterday". All my troubles seemed so far away, now it looks as though they're here to stay...
  18. I really wouldn't call it that creative. It's L-S-L-S-L-S-L-S-R. Creative would be Grossman leading off with Mauer leaning on the dugout steps.
