  1. Someone want to parrot the company line on why Castro started tonight with a lefty on the mound and a day game tomorrow?
  2. Not necesarily. He's only at 85 pitches. Bottom of order is due up. I'd send him back out. He's no more likely to fail than Rogers, Belisle or Pressly IMO.
  3. Is there some reason why the Twins didn't put Buxton on the concussion DL? Is he expected back this weekend?
  4. Minor league numbers aren't apparently something the front office uses to decide who to call up.
  5. Might I direct you to the thread entitled Errors: what's the point" or something like that.
  6. Looks like the strategy is to whack the first pitch in the zone tonight.
  7. He can sit EVERYDAY as far as I'm concerned. Anyone who believes Joe Mauer is still an everyday MLB player hasn't seen him play for two years.
  8. Rain just keeps falling in the Rochester area. And pretty much all the Appalachains and upper Ohio Valley too. They've been getting dumped on all week. They were lucky to get two games in on Wednesday.
  9. The biggest problem with improving the outlook of the bullpen is the fact that so many potential pieces are hurt. O'Rourke is out for the year. He was one of the best loogys in MLB last year. Reed and Chargois are both hurt. Those two flame throwers would look pretty good IMO. Tyler Jay was being converted to the bullpen and now he's hurt. I personally believe that Buddy Boshers is better than Craig Breslow, but I'm not the one in charge of roster decisions. Trevor Hildenberger is probaby the next guy in line for a shot. He's not so much "upside" as much as he is funky delivery that may or may not fool MLB hitters. As I have said before, Pat Neshek still has a job. Hildenberger might stick too. He started off well in AAA, but hasn't been so good in his last couple outings. I would probably give him at least until the end of May before evaluating him again. He likely ceilings as a serviceable specialist type. Possibly a ROOGY when the team is a contender. But he is a guy who can also be used in longer stints if needed.
  10. Not really. If the roof is leaking in several spots, you would probably fix the entire roof. You probably wouldn't patch the holes.
  11. You seem to be missing the point. He DID "get" the third out. That's what an error usually means. An out should have been recorded. That out would have ended the inning. Turley would have faced the next hitter under completely different circumstances. I'm not trying to prop up Turley. He definitely pitched poorly. Perhaps so poorly that his defenders were on their heals. Just a general skepticism.
  12. The boxscore said only one of Turley's runs was earned. Here is a good example of why I am skeptical of "fielding independent pitching era". An error made behind Turley should have resulted in the third out with the Red Wings in the dugout. Instead, the inning continued. Turley allowed another hit and two more unearned runs. But hits count against FIP. Is it really accurate to assume that Turley would have given up that hit in the next inning anyway?
  13. His current OPS ranks in the top 15 in the league. That's pretty good for a CFer. Guess he is playing RF too. But still more time in CF so far. He also has 6 assists already. He had 6 all of last year.
  14. Has something about the FSL changed in general? It used to be DOMINATED by pitchers. Homeruns were rare. I was looking to see how Murphy stacked up and I noticed there are already 5 guys with at least 6 HR in the FSL. To put that in perspective, Justin Morneau hit 4 HR in 53 games there in 2001. And that was considered a lot.
  15. I've only been half watching the game. I just saw on the crawl that a 24 year old A's prospect died. Did they say anything during the broadcast?
  16. With Adrianza getting a trial in the outfield, I think Danny Boy's days are clearly numbered. It's entirely possible that he clears waivers and decides to report to Rochester. He could try the open market, but if he clears waivers that should be a pretty clear indicator of what the market is. I don't think it is all likely that the Twins try to work Adrianza into some kind of regular rotation. He's simply not that good. He's a back up. Every team needs them. If it were up to me, I would try to put Adrianza on waivers and if he is claimed, pull him off. If he clears, keep him in Rochester, but still let Danny go and call up someone like Palka or Hague or Shuck - you know, someone that might actually be able to NOT have a negative WAR. Frankly, I'm more than fine with Escobar as the only back up middle infielder on the roster. Worst case scenario, you still have Adrianza in AAA and Vielma who is on the 40 man. But that's just me.
  17. I think the biggest concern over Polanco was and is the arm. Joe Mauer is a very agile defensive first baseman with quick reflexes and soft hands, traits from his days behind the dish. Some of those bounced throws will get past a guy like Kennys Vargas or Byung Ho Park if they are over there 120 times a year.
