  1. You have to crawl before you walk. If this approach results in more contact, it's a start. He can work on driving the ball AFTER he masters actually hitting it.
  2. Should we be concerned about Gonsalves' HR rate? 5 allowed in 41 IP. He allowed just 1 in 74 IP at AA last year and 2 more in 65 IP at high A. So, a homerun every 45 IP last year to one every 8 IP this year. That has to raise flags.
  3. I notice that Gonsalves has given up 5 long balls this year in 40 or so IP. He gave up just 1 in 70 odd innings at AA last year. Something to monitor if he, as many expect, gets bumped to AAA soon.
  4. I think it would be a greater challenge to navigate a 162 game season with terrible relievers.
  5. Ironic that the slowest team in MLB is the only one that still plays home games on turf. Usually you would want and need speed for your defenders on turf.
  6. His sore ribs are no doubt the result of laughing all the way to the bank to cash his MLB paycheck.
  7. He can catch and is fast. How is it that he wasn't a wide receiver?
  8. Breslow has also walked 4 lefties and only struck out 4 in almost 40 PA. Breslow has better BB and K rates vs RHP. He has an impossibly low .166 BABIP vs LHB as well. Boil it all down and it suggests that Breslow's success against lefties this year is largely a result of luck and/or because he's pitching in low leverage situations. As for Belisle, did you not see his horrendous performance in a high leverage situation last night? He allowed an inherited run to score and he turned a bad situation into an impossible one.
  9. There is something of a mental capacity needed to be The Guy in the 9th. The finality of the situation I suppose. LaTroy Hawkins had substantially better stuff than Eddie Guardado. Hawkins flopped in the closer role but flourished in the 8th inning. Not everyone has it. Some guys develop it. Some don't.
  10. Buxton is the fastest guy to the dugout after a strike out in MLB.
  11. Boshers threw 4 pitches and got two outs. I'm not sure he realistically could have done much better than that. He actually has a higher K rate vs RHP this year.
  12. Who knows. Maybe Hughes flourishes in his return to the pen and he closes through 2019.
  13. Well. If the Twins do hang on to win, they will need to get 9 more outs (12 total) from the pen. Probably from at least 3 different relievers. Meanwhile, the Indians will likely only need 7 from theirs. Most likely from one or two guys. This is how you get an overworked bullpen. The Twins need to get more innings out of their starters.
  14. Unfortunately, the bulk of the rain is well south of Cleveland.
