  1. Romero Berrios Santana Gibby Odorizzi Lynn better watch his back, when Big Erv returns it's going to be The Hunger Games. And no, Lance, I'm not talking about a donut-eating contest.
  2. When I heard Hawk was doing the broadcast, I went back and watched/listened to the Sox side of the broadcast yesterday - specifically when Shields lost the no-hitter and the Twins rallied for 3 runs in the 7th. You are right. He was completely disinterested. There was another old guy in the booth with him, I'm guessing the average age was 75. Hawk was talking about the old days, old players, then ripped on Barry Bonds (?) -- all while the Twins were rallying and the Sox lead was going down the tubes. In the old days he'd be fire and brimstone. But you're right, this time he just continued to talk about himself and his playing days, how he had 109 RBI back in '67, blah blah blah. Mentioning random teammates that nobody's ever heard of. I guess if I were in the 85-95 year-old demographic, I'd probably have enjoyed it. Not sure how any of the other Sox fans could have found that broadcast entertaining.
  3. Yeah. I'm reading "the offense is coming alive", but when I look at the box score I see just 4 hits against the White Sox today. The late defensive miscues were the heroes in this one, not the Twins' bats.
  4. I lived in Chicago for 12 years before I moved away 5 years ago. I miss a lot about the city - watching Twins v. Sox games and getting stuck listening to Hawk ain't one of them. He's an angry homer who likes to gloat, just about the worst combination for an opposing fan.
  5. I said this exact same thing about Grossman during Spring Training. He's a great luxury to have if you're an NL team looking for a pinch hitter. At this point, the Twins are far enough back that they're going to play Grossman as much as possible to maximize his value. They're going to want prospects back when we trade him in July, and the more ABs he has the better prospects we'll get from the Nationals, Cubs, Diamondbacks, etc. The Twins aren't in "win now" mode. They're also not in "rebuilding" mode. What kind of purgatory have we found ourselves in? When does Buxton come back? His injuries at this point are defining his career. It's so frustrating.
  6. At this point, no lead feels safe. Didn't the Twins jump out to a similar big lead against the Reds and blow it? This Twins team looks like it could lose 95 games. As someone said above: at this point, any win feels like a surprise. I didn't watch the game, but per usual I have my MLB At Bat notifications on. Every time a team scores, a little MLB logo appears on my phone to let me know that a team has scored. It's come to a point that when I see that notification my heart starts to sink - I just know something bad has happened. Kind of like when you get a call from the nursing home about great aunt Hazel: it might not be bad news, but it probably is.
  7. You came up with the award, you do the research, write the articles, etc. A combined no-hitter certainly fits the bill! I don't see any reason for you to apologize for anything you've written here. Good job and thanks for the reporting!
  8. So my girlfriend's brother went to Romania a few months ago. It snowed, and he was pretty excited because it was the first time he's ever seen snow! How about that, eh? Say, anyone ever been on a safari? I think it would be cool to see a rhino up close, in the wild. But then again, I wonder if the other tourists would ruin it. I mean, I went to Playa del Carmen this past winter and absolutely would never go again, just too many touris......what's that? Baseball? What's baseball?
  9. Thanks for the update! Enns was part of the Garcia flip, wasn't he? I think he was kind of a "throw in", the major piece was Littell...looks like Enns was indeed just window dressing after all. Petit, a journeyman. Guess that's the right move, veteran, etc. Would have loved to see Gordon get a shot, move Esco to 3rd for a few games. Oh well. Go Twins!
  10. "there is a lot of baseball left" could also be a negative. The problem with this statement is that the way the Twins are playing, a 23-17 run over the next 40 games seems highly improbable. Impossible even. It's like getting straight Ds and Fs all semester, and then saying: "Well, if I get straight A's next semester I'll have my GPA back to a 2.0". I like the positive attitude and the spin. But let's be honest: we're here to gripe and complain. We're frustrated and ticked off. The only thing that's going to make us feel better are: 1. Twins wins 2. More cowbell Pep talks and 'what ifs' aren't my cup o' tea right now, unfortunately! I wish they were. I like your positive spin. I truly hope the Twins do get on a roll.
  11. I agree. Problem is, by the time Santana comes back it's going to be too late. No one player is going to turn around a season on June 1 if the Twins are 20 games below .500 at this point. Last night was the first time I thought: hmm, I wonder what the Twins are going to get for Dozier at the trade deadline? I wouldn't be angry if the Twins were just hanging around .500, dropping a game here and there, etc. But to see them spiral out of control like this is just infuriating to watch. So early. We were all so excited and waited all off season, only to see the season go into the tank by May 1? We fans didn't sign up for this. We just had a "lost season" in 2016. That type of total system failure should be a once-per-decade experience. To have this dismal 2018 come just 2 years after the infamous 2016 collapse is too much to bear.
  12. It was foul, but still another terrible defensive play by Garver. Dick is coming to his defense a bit too strongly...he just called it "a great play by Garver".
  13. Garver just made one of the most bone-headed plays in the history of baseball.
  14. I have never thought of Molitor as a "player's manager", nor have I ever heard that. From what I understand, he got the job because he was a Hall of Fame local guy, and got extended because the Twins made the playoffs in a down year in the AL. Period.
  15. I have been silently worrying about this exact same thing. Bux wasn't exactly on fire when he went to the DL. He's got a terrible history of poor starts, and if you factor in the Twins' early season schedule plus all this missed time...well, the writing's on the wall. Buxton is basically going to be starting over from Day 1 upon his return. The Twins are going to have to stick with him, in order to get him back up to speed. This team can't afford yet another cold bat, but they absolutely have to stick with Buxton no matter what. In short: the only way this Twins team can keep their season alive is if Byron Buxton and his bad toe comes out on fire in the batters box upon his return.
  16. Tuned back in around the 7th inning to see Duke had men on 1st and 3rd with nobody out. I just about fainted. In the 9th, Rodney's walks just about had me doubled over in pain. But, just like in his other outings, most of the contact made off Rodney was pretty weak. Staying on Rodney here: aside from the Sanchez and Adam Jones home runs, he really hasn't been getting crushed. More like seeing-eye singles, dribblers, flares, ground balls taking high bounces off the mound, etc. Maybe he's not 100% bad, more like 30% bad and 70% unlucky? I wonder how Garver hits against right-handed pitchers? I feel so relieved right now. A 'W', thank jeebus.
  17. Hmmm. I am not sure the Playoffs are out of reach just yet. But I'm certainly worried about what a terrible streak, early in the season, can do to a team. In 2016 that early losing streak set the tone and the season was over before it began. Polanco. Buxton. Santana. Those guys matter, the team isn't the same without them. Molitor isn't managing well but he can't go out there and pitch or hit in the clutch, which seem to be the main problems right now. Heck, even the defense is bad. Everything's a problem. Did I mention Santana? Oh to have a cold-blooded stopper who comes to work every day with a smile on his face.
