  1. Not very encouraging. When I hear, "Wilson Ramos", I feel like Moe of the 3 stooges in the Niagara Falls routine.
  2. With the number of pitchers teams are using these days during the season, you can't have too many capable bodies on hand. I think the Twins have set themselves up pretty good in this department. It will be interesting to see who breaks camp on the MLB roster. Starting Rotation Projection: Berrios, Odorizzi, Maeda, Bailey, Dobnak. At least until Pineda returns. Also, I think Fernando Romero pitches his way back into a MLB role.
  3. Or agent/agency, Agreed. It's not collusion or anything, just business. I also don't think this negatively impacts a potential multi-year contract. But I also think José would like a crack at free agency. The combination of his effectiveness, consistency and durability is attractive to every team in baseball.
  4. Walker played independent league ball for the Milwaukee Milkmen of the American Association and had a typical ABW year, bating .249 with lots of homers, lots of strikeouts and not enough walks. Fun player to follow in the minors.
  5. Not sure we have a Walker to invite to camp, unless we sign free agent pitcher Taijuan Walker which has been rumored we might be interested in on a minor league deal. We'll see.
  6. Handbook says he has a show-me curve and a very sharp slider and both can generate swinging strikes. Sounds rather good to me. Big frame size with easy delivery reaching 100 mph; I'll take some of that.
  7. Terry Ryan interviews were always exciting .... cough. I always thought he did a good job with a limited budget, except for the release of David Ortiz.
  8. I think all the fans that attended Astros home games are also complicit and they should ban all attendance for one year. C'mon, it's a game. Getting away with bending/breaking the rules goes as far back as competition was invented. Maybe each team should have a secured network of communication tech so they can all communicate with each other. This is the 21st century after all.
  9. Luke Raley is an interesting prospect and if he starts hitting well in the early spring, there might be no stopping him toward a role with the Twins this year.
  10. ** IMPACT ALERT ** Arm & Hammer chosen to be the go-to toothpaste in the clubhouse for 2020.
  11. I'm repeating myself here because I mentioned it in another thread, but I think Dominic Smith of the Mets could be a possible trade acquisition. With Alonso entrenched at 1B, Smith is a bat without a position for them. I'm not a trade guru but does Fernando Romero and Nick Gordon get us there, or too much?
  12. Close. Hill at peak earnings (75 innings): Hill makes $166,667 per inning. Cole (36 mil contract year average, 210 est innings): Cole makes $171,429 per inning. It does seem like a lot of $$ for Hill I agree. If he can pitch as effectively as he has the past few years he could be a huge asset in a post-season run.
  13. From Jeff Passan of ESPN on Rich Hill's contract: If he returns in time to make 15 starts or throw 75 innings, Hil's salary will jump to $12.5 million, a source told Passan. He can earn $1 million for reaching five starts or 25 innings, another $1 million for seven starts or 35 innings, an additional $1 million for nine starts or 45 innings, $1.5 million more for 11 starts or 55 innings, $2 million on top of that for 13 starts or 65 innings and a $3 million bonus for his 15th start or 75th inning. I think the contract hurdles being listed as starts or innings is designed to provide compensation for Hill whether he's used as a starter or reliever.
  14. Maybe we'll find out Homer Bailey is the great grandson of George Bailey and he'll have a wonderful life pitching for the Twins. Very good split-finger fastball which he upped to using almost 27% last year. Held hitters to an .182 average with it and generated a 38.2% whiff rate. Results might have been helped by the fact that a lot of pitchers ditched their sinkers while pursuing upper strike zone whiffs and hitters struggled with his sinker. Jack Morris probably likes this signing. Both fastball and splitter are good pitches, others ... not so good. Used to have an elite slider pre Tommy John then Bone Spur Surgery. Known as a very hard worker. Who knows, maybe with full post-TJ health and Wes Johnson's pitching mojo he'll have a nice season for the Twins.
  15. I'm pretty sure the Twins want him to start. Both Graterol and Thorpe will need innings limitations, so maybe they form a starter/relief sharing role with probably about 150 max innings from each of them. That is if they pitch effectively and we don't acquire another starter.
  16. Clippard actually has better stats against LH hitters than RH, and with the new 3-batter rule, I really like this signing.
  17. Any pitcher that has Dick "The Monster" Radatz as one of his comps at B-R is alright in my book.
  18. Question: Does the Mets signing Wacha and Porcello make DeGrom or Thor remotely available?
