  1. If he can keep the ball in the park, he should be effective. I like that he reduced his walk rate significantly moving from the minors to MLB without reducing his K rate. More meat for the pen . . . yeah baby.
  2. Hmmm ... the "most viewed articles" has zero comments. "Yeah, I don't really like talking about my flair".
  3. This isn't a bad idea considering the expectations are shrinking for how many innings a starter is going to pitch each game. 40 starts at 5 innings per start is 200 innings; kind of the bench mark for work load. It's easier to find 4 good arms than 5.
  4. In reply to the article picture: Secret photo captures Jonathan Schoop working on the Eddie Gaedel model of the tiniest strike zone in baseball to increase his walks this coming year. You read it here first.
  5. We might end up leading the league in solo homers and strikeouts. Yikes. When did Dave Kingman become the poster child of MLB offense?
  6. <<I get that Austudillo is a fun guy to have around. So was Mickey Hatcher. Coincidence that we won a World Series AFTER Hatcher left?>> Hatcher played 12 years, and hit very well in the post season for the '88 Dodgers, batting over .300 with 2 world series homers. Those early/mid '80's Twins teams had bigger problems than Mickey Hatcher who played his posterior off every game. Besides, anyone who runs Tony Lasorda'a pants up a flag pole as a prank is aces to me.
  7. Byron Buxton: Bunting for doubles. Heck, he probable reaches first before anybody even touches the ball. I don't recall seeing anybody as fast as Byron; maybe Rickey Henderson.
  8. << I look forward to seeing this club become Rocco's Modern Baseball Team. >> Hmmm. If Rocco is Rocco, I wonder who are Heff, Filburt and Spunky? We can change Target Field to O-Town Park. Watch out for Mr. Bighead.
  9. I couldn't believe how emotional I got when Joe came out in the catching gear. When he squatted behind the plate to take that pitch, it was like a reminder of the years we missed with him as our catcher. Yeah, Joe at 1B was good and cool, but he was so awesome as a catcher. Makes you wonder how Pudge, Fisk, & Boone endured so long wearing the tools of ignorance. I have to admit, I want him to come back next year, even if he's a platoon/role player. Go Joe.
  10. And Palka as LH DH, Dereck Rodriguez starting (leading the Giants with 2.8WAR) and Shaggy in the pen. Hmmmm.
  11. Kohl Stewart might become someone like Mike Torrrez in the 70's and 80's. Pitched from the middle of the rotation somewhere, made all his starts, ate innings, and generally gave his team a chance to win. Won a ring with the '77 Yankees (the Mr. October series against the Dodgers), winning 2 games. Won 20 games once. Had a couple of pretty rough seasons. Guys like this help solidify a starting rotation.
  12. <<Gonsalves ERA is 9.39 which would be the worst on the team without the leadership of Belisle and his 10.45.>> Belisle is the morale booster here.
  13. <<Gonsalves hasn't shown me anything. Soft slop that might bewilder AAA batters doesn't fool major leaguers. He reminds me of Tommy Milone. If his control isn't perfect or the ump isn't giving him the corners he's going to get clobbered when he has to throw the ball over the plate. I'm discouraged that the Twins are so high on him.>> Tommy Glavine threw slop all the way to the Hall of Fame.
  14. I wonder if Greg Maddux could make a come back. Had pretty average stuff. Didn't throw that hard, but owned the edges of the plate. He'd throw it to either the inside edge or outside edge with great command, with just enough late movement in or out to keep the hitters guessing. And he seemed to be able to keep one step ahead of whatever the hitter's plan was. Very fun to watch him carve up a game.
  15. I wish Joe would swing like that more often. You could see he put a little more jolt into that swing. Makes me wonder if he could get his left-centerfield power alley thing going again like he did at the Metrodome. Nice one Joe.
  16. Yeah, the keystone combo out of Texas looks real solid. If I'm responsible for drafting Davis and Helman, I'm feeling pretty good about it. Maybe they can progress through the system together. I can dig it. Davis (bats L) improved every year at Texas Tech. Average, On Base and Slugging. Helman (bats R) gave up his senior year at A+M to join the Twins. Good luck in the playoffs boys. Kick it.
  17. Wow, one of the worst Twins games, ever. Just plain ugly. I didn't like the lineup, I didn't like the "opener" thing, I didn't like the way they played, I didn't like seeing a 35 year old catcher pitching who actually wasn't catching but playing 1B. And Matt Belisle hits Beltre with a pitch throw and the ump thinks he's throwing at him. Ha ha. You would think that before they signed him, Pohlad asked how Belisle's arm is. The doctor should have said, "It's dead Jim". This game was so bad, I was checking the hockey Gopher's upcoming schedule.
  18. You push both runners to the same bag. Only one runner can claim the base. Tag em. Somebody is out. Johnny Bench knows.
  19. Mitch, from one Albuquerque guy to another, when in doubt, tag everybody. -The remote coaching staff
  20. Definitely piggybacking. We have the horses. Piggyback 'till the cows come home. And since Falvine let the cat out of the bag on this, we can assume its more than just a dog and pony show of our stud pitchers. Gotta see who can really pitch seeds before we let some out to pasture. Nuf.
