  1. Hand’s walks went up a ton last year. I don’t think he’s still the guy you remember.
  2. Yeah, unfortunate, but so it goes with MLB draft picks. Even if their dreams don't come true, at least Sabato and Cavaco still got paid well as 1st round picks. Balazovic did pretty well himself getting an over-slot deal in the 5th round for a major payday as well. Certainly their goal is to have a long MLB career, but those are pretty good consolation prizes. As for the Twins end, if they don't pan out, that'll stink, but thankfully there are plenty of other fish in in the depths of the minor league system, many of whom look really, really promising despite getting much less fanfare.
  3. If he's leading off, I should hope that single came from dropping a bunt down the 3B line.
  4. Since there seem to be no runaway options at 1B, I’m ok with the rotation. Buuut, may this just be a bit of a subversive prognostication? Might the Twins REALLY be saying, ‘Miranda gets to stay at 3B until Lewis/Lee/Julian are ready to move up?’
  5. ****Moderator Note**** Sorry everyone, this was all clearly just a troll of a thread posted by someone who hasn't participated since the Twins offseason looked bleak. Clearly schadenfreude drives him and he's been lacking it since the Correa situation swung back in the Twins favor. This thread will be locked.
  6. Sorry, but I do consider Kepler and Gallo low ceiling guys. I suppose Gallo could go ahead and hit 45 HR to say otherwise, but I don't think Kepler has any potential any longer. Those two plus Solano, Farmer, Gordon and Taylor, there's just nothing there to dream on. Seems like there's just way too many guys who's best case scenario is 'average' and worst case scenario likely isn't much better than the prospects.
  7. That was a weird draft and it might go down as an overall bust for the league. Obviously it's early but only two players drafted after Sabato have managed to make the majors so far. One of them is Spencer Strider who was the 6th to last pick in the entire and might end up being the best (only?!?) player who's any good. Though I'm hoping it's the 4th to last player selected who ends up being the best.
  8. If Larnach is healthy, I want him on the 26-man and starting opening day over those three. But the current roster construction pretty much guarantees he'll need someone else to get injured for that to happen. I don't like wasting early season games on low ceiling vets. Low ceiling guys should be the depth, not the starters.
  9. Huh, MLBTR lists 22 position players (and DH) left as free agents. Among them are Gary Sanchez and Miguel Sano who are two of the youngest free agents, and Andrelton Simmons, They list seven starting pitchers left, among them are Chris Archer, Dylan Bundy and Michael Pineda. Joe Smith and Hansel Robles are the former relievers. That seems like an awful lot of veteran players from the Twins the last two years that no other team wants. Five from last year's opening day roster, four of which were free agents. Sergio Romo gets a pass, he was three years ago.
  10. Hard to argue. I'd guess the only prediction that would be remotely considered out on a limb is Megill not getting a starting job, but that's pretty minimal. But ugh, that's one offensively ugly outfield. Buxton and a bunch of yuck.
  11. Other teams are getting top end 20-21 year-olds to the majors, it sure would be nice if the Twins could do the same with Rodriguez and/or Raya.
  12. I've never been a fan of DH's that can't draw walks.
  13. What you described is not competition though, it's still deferring to the vets. Vets that are likely no longer as talented, and certainly don't have the ceiling of the young guys. You might be putting together the best 40-man roster, but not the best 26-man roster. Certainly there are arguments for both perspectives, but since there's more than enough young guys at AA or above who are ready to contribute, I think you put the best 26-man roster together instead.
  14. Thanks for sharing. Martin's no dummy, he and every other prospect know that adding power is the most likely way to add to his paycheck. Glad to hear he was on board with any changes, even if they didn't work. Yet.
  15. I think the reason the Brewers wouldn't offer Burns more is the same reason why they won't trade him. The front office is desperately trying to make one more run at a championship before their players hit free agency, but have already been told by ownership that there's no more money to spend.
  16. Tom Brunansky greatly overhauled Brain Dozier's swing, it didn't come naturally. It probably came similarly to what they tried with Martin.
  17. I'd do that deal for Miranda. Heck, I'd consider that deal for Edouard Julian or Emmanuel Rodriguez. So I think it's much too light for Lewis. But, I'd for sure be interested in talking a long term deal with him.
  18. I get the intent, doubles and HR are better than singles, and the Twins did ship off Arraez after all, so even if it's not well received, I think we can see their train of thought. I know it's not a popular sentiment as plenty of folks are still hopeful station-to-station baseball will come back, but I'm of the opinion that these types of singles hitters may be fun to watch, but aren't actually as impactful in terms of wins and losses as the guys who crank out XBH but strikeout more than we'd like to see. But if the Arraez route is Martin's only path to success, by all means, don't change it.
  19. Yeah, this organization isn't going to win a championship with these recycled vets making up most of the roster. Let's get the young guys up and playing and seeing what they got. There's enough of them that they can cycle through them until they find the right ones.
  20. If Mahle is healthy, his numbers when he doesn't pitch in Cincinnati have me excited.
  21. I don't like it. Pablo Lopez and Carlos Correa start for every team, so those make sense, but I really dislike the distrust that's being shown to the younger players. Give them the jobs, they've been performing better when called upon than these journeyman kinds of vets. And I don't even mean having to go with the outfielders who've already debuted like Larnach, Kirilloff and Wallner. They're hurt or they didn't show you what you wanted to see? Fine, next man up. They're scared to push Lee or Martin? Dumb, but fine let them play full time in St. Paul. I'd still rather see Julian, Prato, Severino, Camargo or Isola than Solano, Gallo and Farmer.
  22. Seems to me that Gordon's weight isn't holding him back so much as his plate discipline. He'll be way too inconsistent if he keeps that 4.3 BB%. That's what he needs to work on.
  23. Benintendi has never been an MVP candidate. Not a single vote, even in his one good year. I don't care what a guy does on offense AND defense. Tell me what the guy does on offense, THEN tell me what he does on defense. Offense is >>>>>>> important than defense, so get me a good bat, then we find out if his glove plays in the field. If it doesn't, get me another good bat and we'll see if his glove plays in the field. Good defense does not make up for being an offensive liability. Offense and defense shouldn't be one combined metric using a sliding scale based on an arbitrary percentage of the weight being given to defense. I'm all for analytics, but the modern era has this part all wrong. Offensive statistics are concrete and calculable. Defensive statistics are arbitrary, largely based on estimates and often proven fallible. We know the guy will have a chance to show his worth on offense every ninth at bat, but he may not have the ball hit to him all game long. Two separate and very different evaluations, not one. Offense first, defense second.
  24. I don't care about Martin's WAR as that will all be based off of whatever position they stick him at. In either case, Benintendi's single season with an OPS over .800 doesn't inspire much excitement as a comp. I have never wanted anything to do with him and that's even with significantly more XB power than Martin has displayed at this point. Whether Martin plays corner OF, 2B or 3B, Benintendi should be the absolute floor if he's going to be a long-term lock for the lineup. If I have a corner OF that can't regularly produce with the bat, I'm always looking for upgrades.
