  1. And the troubling thing might not be that this is too much information, but seeing as this is some kind of ad hoc pitching correction committee, there's likely very little chance that every "instructor" knows what the other "instructors" are telling him.
  2. Sports psychiatrists have been popular for some time. Do the Twins employ one? Because if a guy comes through the system and is praised for his command and work ethic, I'd think there's a good chance the underlying issue is simply dealing with the pressure. Also, I agree with the too many cooks in the kitchen theory. Let's clean that kitchen out and get a new cook. Just one. Make sure it's a good one.
  3. Pretty sure Brady Anderson is about 50, I remember his 1989 rookie card. It looks like Max Murphy is turning things around. I remember we had a flash of hopeful optimism in 2014 when he destroyed the Appy League, but then things kind of fell apart when he hit the full season leagues. Nice improvement at Ft Myers this year; hope he gets back from his rehab assignment soon.
  4. You're right that is confusing. So to be clear, we basically traded Andrew Albers for Carlos Carrasco. Right? Right?!
  5. Ernie Banks and Walter Johnson: the two biggest problems in baseball history. There are good reasons to keep Dozier, however should the Twins move on from Polanco and commit to Dozier, they'll almost surely begin thinking about extending him some time next year. At that point he'd become the expensive vet on the wrong side of 30. I'm not sure this young team needs another one of those.
  6. Well the concern replied to was giving up a reliever with 6 years of control. But honestly, I was as big of a Meyer believer as anyone, even going into this year. I'm out though. Another forgettable season, this one due to an ominous shoulder issue that has kept him out nearly all year? No regrets. Yeah, at this point I'd take Busenitz straight up for Meyer.
  7. Good thing they traded for a reliever with six years of control then I guess. Busenitz also has more options left than Meyer. Even without the Nolasco/Santiago components, it's still a push at worst under these standards.
  8. I have to admit, good or bad, hearing Doug Mientkiewicz disregard organizational directives makes me laugh. Would he have done the same thing if Ryan was still in charge and the front office wasn't so unstable? He too likely assumes that his next ?boss? likely is not currently employed with team.
  9. I might argue that the reason he doesn't walk more is because he hasn't been given a great reason to swing less. He's making good contact and is being rewarded for his freeswinging ways. Perhaps if things go in the tank for him he would be forced to adjust and come out a more complete player.
  10. Take Buster Posey out the equation and the position is just so flukey. I'd be fine rolling with an internal option and which ever vet is willing to take a one year deal, which is probably most of them. Soto, Saltalamacchia, Navarro, Hundley, Castro, Suzuki. None are likely to be a top catcher next year, but with the wild fluctuation of offensive proficiency year in and year out with these guys, you never know. Look at Suzuki in his three years here how much more of a roller coaster could his Twins tenure have been? Everyone agrees Wilson Ramos is going to get a big payday yet there was talk about him getting non-tendered last off season; he was awful in 2015. I'm not getting too worked up about the largely ineffectual and irrationally inconsistent position. Unless you have Posey, all you have is a lotto ticket anyway.
  11. If they can't re-sign him, something has gone horribly wrong because he won't be expensive. Not saying they should re-sign him, but he's going to be playing under an affordable contract for any team going forward the rest of his career.
  12. Agreed, and aside from the contract, Archer has over 300 less innings on his arm and from the sound of it, is one of the best clubhouse guys in the game.
  13. I'm hopeful on Gordon, but there's no way I'm presuming he's going to be good enough to make Escobar a non-factor.
  14. I was fine with the Park signing, but like everyone else (including Terry Ryan likely), I thought that meant Plouffe was going to be traded. When Ryan saw the market for Plouffe wasn't what he expected, he really had three realistic options at that point. 1) Trade Plouffe for peanuts and possibly eat some salary. 2) Non-tender Plouffe. 3) Tell Paul Molitor in no uncertain terms that barring injury Plouffe would be a bench bat and a utility player until further notice. Bottom line, I think other organizations could have signed Park under the same circumstances but would have been able to deal with this situation in a way that would not have left us still talking about it in August. Option 4) was just ridiculous, though I guess there should be a modicum of credit for really, really thinking outside the box.
  15. Buxton needs to be universally labeled a bust. Then he can relax, stop pressing, and come back to the big stage with little pressure and no expectations.
  16. I don't think it's only comparing Nolasco and Santiago though. With the addition of Santiago to the rotation, the Twins have a new token lefty so Santiago is really replacing both Nolasco and Milone. If the Twins are going to have an overpaid and cringeworthy veteran AND an under-performing token lefty, I'd rather they be the same guy.
  17. My kids' bedtimes hadn't been too much of a problem because, well the Twins weren't giving my anything good to watch anyway. I'm going to have to revisit 6:00 bedtimes though if these young guys keep doing this.
  18. Also, with a decent year Santiago has a chance to be the Twins first ever QO offer!
  19. Even if the only difference is which arm they throw with, it gives them a lefty in the rotation which the Twins always seem to want. This trade then eliminates the need for Milone too.
  20. Make it 111%. The Mod Note was not aimed at Mike's comment. I can usually take a joke, even on a day when Kurt Suzuki wasn't traded. Which I guess is just about every day.
  21. ****Moderator Note***** Let's keep this thread on the topic of the Twins trades.
  22. How about just re-siging him as a free agent instead? An extension almost surely will require two additional years of commitment. If the Twins really, really super-duper want him, even they can afford to make him the top offer this off season, and maybe in the off season he will only require a one year deal.
  23. If it was only about Meyer and Nolasco, I'd rather do the same. Santiago has some scary peripherals, but if he does in 2017 what he did the past couple of years, the Twins could get back a pretty nice return this time next year. Could is the operative word of course, but I'm all for a gamble. I was a huge Meyer guy, I've lost faith in the last couple months though. This absence with little info seems so ominous.
  24. So just throwing it out there; last time Kurt Suzuki didn't get traded at the deadline and decided to keep him, he got extended.
