  1. If they can't re-sign him, something has gone horribly wrong because he won't be expensive. Not saying they should re-sign him, but he's going to be playing under an affordable contract for any team going forward the rest of his career.
  2. Agreed, and aside from the contract, Archer has over 300 less innings on his arm and from the sound of it, is one of the best clubhouse guys in the game.
  3. I'm hopeful on Gordon, but there's no way I'm presuming he's going to be good enough to make Escobar a non-factor.
  4. I was fine with the Park signing, but like everyone else (including Terry Ryan likely), I thought that meant Plouffe was going to be traded. When Ryan saw the market for Plouffe wasn't what he expected, he really had three realistic options at that point. 1) Trade Plouffe for peanuts and possibly eat some salary. 2) Non-tender Plouffe. 3) Tell Paul Molitor in no uncertain terms that barring injury Plouffe would be a bench bat and a utility player until further notice. Bottom line, I think other organizations could have signed Park under the same circumstances but would have been able to deal with this situation in a way that would not have left us still talking about it in August. Option 4) was just ridiculous, though I guess there should be a modicum of credit for really, really thinking outside the box.
  5. Buxton needs to be universally labeled a bust. Then he can relax, stop pressing, and come back to the big stage with little pressure and no expectations.
  6. I don't think it's only comparing Nolasco and Santiago though. With the addition of Santiago to the rotation, the Twins have a new token lefty so Santiago is really replacing both Nolasco and Milone. If the Twins are going to have an overpaid and cringeworthy veteran AND an under-performing token lefty, I'd rather they be the same guy.
  7. My kids' bedtimes hadn't been too much of a problem because, well the Twins weren't giving my anything good to watch anyway. I'm going to have to revisit 6:00 bedtimes though if these young guys keep doing this.
  8. Also, with a decent year Santiago has a chance to be the Twins first ever QO offer!
  9. Even if the only difference is which arm they throw with, it gives them a lefty in the rotation which the Twins always seem to want. This trade then eliminates the need for Milone too.
  10. Make it 111%. The Mod Note was not aimed at Mike's comment. I can usually take a joke, even on a day when Kurt Suzuki wasn't traded. Which I guess is just about every day.
  11. ****Moderator Note***** Let's keep this thread on the topic of the Twins trades.
  12. How about just re-siging him as a free agent instead? An extension almost surely will require two additional years of commitment. If the Twins really, really super-duper want him, even they can afford to make him the top offer this off season, and maybe in the off season he will only require a one year deal.
  13. If it was only about Meyer and Nolasco, I'd rather do the same. Santiago has some scary peripherals, but if he does in 2017 what he did the past couple of years, the Twins could get back a pretty nice return this time next year. Could is the operative word of course, but I'm all for a gamble. I was a huge Meyer guy, I've lost faith in the last couple months though. This absence with little info seems so ominous.
  14. So just throwing it out there; last time Kurt Suzuki didn't get traded at the deadline and decided to keep him, he got extended.
  15. Uh wait a second. I just saw that Alan Busenitz, the throw in guy the Twins got from the Angels is also from Kennesaw State, just like Light. Is that a coincidence?
  16. Rosenthal tweets it's Nolasco and Meyer. So basically we gave up Meyer to dump Nolasco? Not sure I'm upset about that. And Santiago could be a gem of a trade piece next year.
  17. The whole team needs to be placed on waivers at 3:01, hoping that some of these guys don't get claimed simply because the active teams are still trying to figure out their 25 and 40-mans.
  18. Dillon Tate for two months of Carlos Beltran?! Come ON! I'm torn on a Santana trade. I want some action, but I'm also worried Anthony isn't going to get the right value.
  19. Wouldn't the Giants rather have had Santana? This board would have been in hysteria.
  20. This Santana stuff is exciting. Just so long as the front office hasn't forgotten to have someone manning the Suzuki and Kintzler phones.
  21. Fine by me, we still have an hour and a half left. Of course my work will suffer.
  22. Jeremy's Twitter is also linking a Berardino Tweet about how the Giants have also long had interest in Santana. Jeremy's response is asking for Phil Bickford. That was clearly just spitballing. A good spitball though.
