  1. I'm much less of a fan of calling up the batters straight from AA, I'd like to see Gordon get some AAA pitching first; it hasn't worked out terrible well for the Twins when the batters have had no or minimal AAA experience. I think they need to continue to figure out how to adjust and react to the pitchers. I'm just fine calling pitchers up from AA though, particularly relievers. They are the causation to the batters reaction, the things they tend to have to work on like mechanics and control are completely independent of the batters they face.
  2. So the Kernals have clinched and the AS game is tomorrow, does that mean Palacios gets to head to Ft. Myers on Wednesday?
  3. I'm all for the evaluation, and I wanted Tonkin, Wheeler, Haley and Wimmers to get a(nother) shot. But you'd think that you'd work your way through the evaluation process with the guys with the lowest probability of being a future contributor only if your team is losing. You'd think you'd start out with the guys with the highest probability of contributing if the team is contending.
  4. If Rooker goes anywhere below Ft. Myers, it better be because the team has decided that he's going to be a player-coach. All reports indicate that his success this year was because he is studious, mature and self-propelling even above his skill level which is extremely high. The Twins had to get permission to re-draft Rooker. If I was him, I would have told the team, only if you agree to start me at Chattanooga.
  5. Gordon is hitting better in AA than Machado or Lindor did and by a wide margin. He's hitting better than those two did at any level in fact. He might also be looking at a call up right now if the team wasn't getting competent SS play from three capable players in Escobar, Polanco and Adrianza. I'm not saying Gordon or Lewis will be in their tier of shortstop, but it's far from a foregone conclusion that they won't. Also, of those guys, only Correa was a #1 pick. The odds of any #1 pick actually turning into an All-Star let alone a Super Star are low and always are.
  6. I agree that "we all" doesn't include me. It has nothing to do with my expectations for Lewis though, and everything to do with the fact that Nick Gordon is tearing it up and might be the best position player in AA right now. If that's what Lewis is in a few years, that seems pretty awesome to me. Nick Gordon might really surprise us with how high he finds himself on mid-season prospect rankings. He's hitting better than J.P. Crawford and Gleyber Torres ever have and he should be about two minutes away from joining them at the AAA level. And personally, I had never thought too highly of Gordon, even when drafted. He's starting to look like a find now
  7. Enlow, Lewis, Leach. You guys can have your fun little HS players.* I'm still super stoked that they got Rooker! Call me crazy, but I have never been more confident in a Twins pick being able to hit at the MLB level than I am Rooker. That right-handed swing looks tailor-made for Target Field. And the best part is, he sounds like such a student of the game, that if for some reason it isn't, he'll damn well correct it. *Sarcasm only, I like the high schoolers a ton also.
  8. Ober is the beginning of my last name. And Bailey is the name of our dog. I'm looking forward to telling my 7-year-old that tidbit tonight; he's surely going to find it more interesting than anyone else.
  9. Twins going back to the lotto route with Spicer in round 26 and Griffen Roberts in round 29. Both ranked in the top 200 and likely to go back to school. Round 27 saw them take Chandler Tayler who is a sophomore. I'd be fun if they got one of these guys to put pen to paper.
  10. I forget his name, but the Twins hired the pre-eminent Canadian scout/instructor about three years ago.
  11. Yeah, that one is unique. Cade Smith. I'd like to hear more about that.
  12. Glad you posted that, even though everyone reading the draft thread now needs a time out for tissues. Good stuff and I hope this guy makes it!
  13. You don't need a catcher if you're really good at getting 1st pitch ground balls.
  14. Reds must have had some cash left, or at least high hopes. They picked a HS pitcher ranked in the top 200 in round 12.
  15. Wow, that's really interesting about McKay. Was he truly ready to go back to Louisville? I don't see his leverage, particularly after nearly everybody and their mom starting getting worried last month and dropped him from the top of their rankings because of velocity concerns.
  16. Yes they do from time to time. Since the Twins pick first and should have some free money to spend, if any of those guys will sign, the Twins should be in the driver's seat to do so.
  17. Have to think most the remaining top 100 are likely unsignable at this point. Which is clearly in the Twins favor as long as not ALL top 100 are unsignable. 18 hours to cut deals AND the first pick, the Twins should be able to reel in their choice of the fence straddlers if they still have excess bonus money.
  18. That seems like the same if not shorter time span than it would take any of the pitchers drafted this year to contribute. And considering Polanco, Gordon and Palacios are further along in their development than any of the hypothetical pitchers that might have been taken, they likely have better odds of becoming useful.
  19. No one is behind Sano or Buxton. Wouldn't the team be looking to deal Polanco once he's established and Gordon arrives? Perhaps trade Gordon if Palacios arrives? Trade Palacios once Lewis arrives? None of these guys are established yet, we're not talking about trading them as prospects, we're talking about trading them as everyday MLBers.
  20. Not if it's the Twins player who is the established MLB'er and the Twins are the ones trading for multiple guys of years of control. I'd assume if the Twins started trading away redundant shortstops, at some point it would start with Polanco to Gordon to Palacios to Lewis. Ideally.
