  1. Yes, we are directing all of that nonsense out of the game threads. Discuss that stuff in the regular forums.
  2. You better tally one for each column with that post. Should be 4-5 now. Put me down for the HR, I'll even it out.
  3. I wouldn't expect him to say anything else. Even if the team comes in at a $90M payroll, they can still say that the Hughes savings was earmarked for whatever free agent they end up signing. I'm not one looking for them to break the bank necessarily and I'm not asking for a record payroll each year. I just ask that they do their best to put themselves in the best spot to win now or soon in the future. Giving away a top draft pick for salary relief next year when it's next to mathematically impossible for them to increase payroll beyond their natural capabilities anyway isn't an attempt to put the team in the best spot to win.
  4. To get back to this year's payroll they'll have to spend about $60M in 2019 money. They'd have to actually get Machado or Harper for that to happen.
  5. They have 26M in committed payroll next year. Even with the arbitration guys they'll struggle to make 60M. That 7.5M will have no impact on free agency.
  6. If the Padres organizational #8 catcher's value is that of or greater than 74th overall pick, they must have the most talented crop of backstops the league has ever seen.
  7. This is great news, the Twins payroll is going to be around that of one of the mid level regional auto-dealers next year. There's no logical reason to be concerned about getting payroll so low unless they plan on signing both Machado AND Harper! Hopefully there's a little left over for Keeshaw!
  8. Yeah, my off-season doubts about Kepler not being able to hit lefties is approaching my take after the Liriano trade that Eduardo Escobar was a terrible return because he was instantly the worst player on the entire 40-man roster, but at least Pedro Hernandez looked like a nice long term lefty.
  9. Sorry, both good answers but we were looking for "Keith Law hates the Twins"
  10. I might kindly point to tonight's intro if by chance anyone didn't read it.
  11. I told my 8-year-old at bed time about the cat/dog debate. He said maybe it's worth giving a shot to breed a cat and a dog to make everyone happy. My five-year-old chimed in and said "Or even better, combine two different dogs then you don't have to have the cat!"
  12. I agree, but there would be room if Buxton were to go to Rochester for a confidence boost. This team could use Wade's on-base skills at in the bottom 1/3 of the line up. Going Buxton-Adrianza-Wilson will kill any kind of extended rally.
  13. If the team assessed is defense as average or better, he should have been catching 4-5 times a week prior to Castro getting injured.
  14. I doubt the front office is going to be too interested in dealing controllable starters when Santana and Lynn are going to be free agents.
  15. I guess I wouldn't try to rate it anywhere on the likely - unlikely scale, but I'd say the fact that plenty of us at the age of 24 thought we knew way more than we actually did only to look back at those years with quite a bit of chagrin and resentment. Most of us turn out OK in the long run.
  16. So if I'm reading between the lines correctly, you think they should go straight to Chattanooga.
  17. In 1987 Tom Brunasky was the #7 hitter most of the season, but they had an off day on May 18th, and I'm nothing if I ain't poetic.
  18. [ I got the loser too: On May 18th of 1991 the Twins #7 hitter was Shane Mack.
