  1. Did Dick just advocate for robo-umps?!? I would have bet all of my money on him voting the opposite.
  2. Wow, if I were to picture in my mind what a stereotypical catcher looks like, it would be Bobby Wilson exactly.
  3. Oof, Dick and Torii's schtick about long names.... Laurel and Hardy have nothing on them.
  4. If he can do this for a couple of more starts hopefully it makes the powers-that-be much less reluctant to make tough calls on poorly performing vets. It would be nice to get Gonsalves a start in Lynn's place prior to Santana coming back. It would be a lot easier to go with three youngsters in Berrios, Romero and Gonsalves if they've all had a look at the majors. It's going to be hard for him to get his foot in the door when Santana, Lynn, Gibson and Odorizzi are all fighting for three spots.
  5. I don't want to set unreasonably high expectations as far as a timeline goes. On the other hand I also don't want to hear people saying it can't be done or the team is smart not to do it when other teams are promoting their 19 or 20-year-old top prospects.
  6. If Polanco or Gordon are destined to be the starting SS here the next couple of years, I'm all aboard the Escobar extension train. The future of Dozier and Sano are murky and he's an excellent safety net. He's versatile enough and still likely cheap enough that extending him in no way would preclude the team from also addressing 2nd or 3rd later should better options appear.
  7. Why not then put him to use in the first half then demote him should he struggle in the second?
  8. Geez so cynical, it's not like he's going to start! We've got a 28-year-old SS with a career .638 OPS ready to make an impact.
  9. Oh no, Duffy has a change up, but it's terrible and he probably should stop throwing it.
  10. Well if we're going to watch futility, they might as well make it historic.
  11. I don't know, giving up 100 runs in a game would be tough, even with this bullpen.
  12. I can't see how Enns or Myles Jaye would keep Gonsalves from a promotion. Hale either. Any of those guys could just as easily go to the pen or released. In fact, the team probably should have put Enns in the pan already considering how the MLB club's bullpen lefty situation has reached Armageddon's door step and they could use a miracle, no matter how remote.
  13. Are they asking him to make adjustments because something is off in his mechanics? Or are his mechanics off because they asked him to make adjustments? I'm just wondering if they saw something they didn't like last year and asked him to make a change, or if they saw that he was doing something different this spring so they are asking him to change back.
  14. Whatever benefit Castro's catching ability is supposed to provide to the pitchers, it's not working. His bat is broken and the pitchers are throwing way too many pitches regardless of any framing advantage, at this point I don't know where the harm is in seeing what Garver can do with regular playing time.
  15. I'd bet the reason for that is that Mike Scioscia has as much or more influence than the GM. Just a guess, but judging by how Molitor uses young pitchers, I'd bet he'd prefer to not have any on the 25-man that didn't "earn" a spot.
  16. Don't jinx it. The worst pitcher in the Angels pen is still probably the Twins 4th best.
  17. It would appear so. Unless we are to believe the Twins had intended to actually make three Rule 5 selections.
  18. But I believe they had 4 open spots at the time of the Rule 5 draft. So it seems to me drafting Kinley really had little to do with the other guys getting booted. Bard, Burdi and later Chargois were gone for other reasons, likely because the team planned on going big on quantity in the free agent market (speaking nothing of quality). Kinley was a mistake, here's hoping they're just waiting a couple days to give him the bad news so they can get a groupon discount on bus tickets for him, Hughes, Duke and Morrison.
  19. According to Fangraphs maybe. Brooksbaseball has his April Velocity and pitch usage the same as last year. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/velo.php?player=519151&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=month&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=04/20/2018&s_type=2 http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=519151&b_hand=-1&gFilt=&pFilt=FA|SI|FC|CU|SL|CS|KN|CH|FS|SB&time=month&startDate=03/30/2007&endDate=04/20/2018&s_type=2
  20. Don't let Kurt Suzuki hear you laugh, he's suddenly feeling a bit optimistic about his chances of getting in.
  21. Yeah, this front office hasn't shown much desire to move starters to the pen thus far. Tyler Jay did but it sounded like that was his desire.
  22. Maybe whomever told Kyle Gibson to stop banking his career on the sinker finally got around to convincing Stewart to do likewise? I'd be nice to know if his approach has changed from last year.
  23. Gonsalves is still throwing way too many pitches. I understand why the front office still has him in AA, no matter the numbers, these are the types of pitchers who seem to struggle the most upon a MLB call up. I always assumed his high pitch count and his good K numbers despite low velocity were due to him intentionally throwing out of and on the fringes of the zone to get the undisciplined minor leaguers to chase. Maybe that is not the case, maybe his control actually is an issue.
