    Plus the rest of the state absolutely loathes Fargo. Grand Forks probably too. Funny, they still rabidly cheer for our college teams.

    I guess I don't think Realmuto is a great catcher. He's pretty good, but nowhere near great in my view. I'd say there are only two great catchers in the game and as soon as Posey's inevitable fall off of a cliff occurs, which should be any day now, it will only be Gary Sanchez. I'd trade for Realmuto if it isn't too prohibitive, but I guess I just don't see the urgency now. I was in favor of Garver getting the lion's share of the games behind the plate over Castro to beginning the year. Maybe the idea of the potential of Garver's bat intrigues me more than others.

    You can't put Lynn in the minors, he's long out of options I'm sure. His track record also shows a troubling over-reliance on fastballs and issues with conditioning. Those are issues that are as concerning as his control and likely part of the contributing factors for his lack of it. He needs a full off-season with a club and he needs to dramatically change his approach and his repertoire. The Twins are just throwing away starts if they think what ails Lance Lynn can be fixed on the fly mid-season. He should move to the pen, that's going to be his final destination anyway, just as everyone was saying from the day he was called up his rookie year.

    e] You're not the only one, I'm skeptical. But he's going to get his shot, might as well be now before Santana gets back seeing as the only other option is Slegers.

    If the starter gets yanked after 3 and Hughes can't be trusted to go directly in and be the long man, why is he still on the team? Hughes needs to be DFA'd, Lynn needs to be the long man and Gonsalves should get his look.

    I've seen this one before in 2003. The team had a bunch of pretty good young hitters who just didn't seem to be syncing up their productivity. They traded for a veteran outfielder in Shannon Stewart who was a good-not-great player but who brought a name-brand excitement to the clubhouse which sparked the team the rest of the year. I'd see about trying to get Adam Jones. He's not the OBP machine Stewart was but he's a name-brand vet that would get young guys excited. And he's right handed and can play CF. This team really needs a RH bat.

    He shouldn't have had to mention why. This isn't a video game, Javier is a living breathing actual human being facing a less than certain surgery that has a 9 month recovery time and he will be physically incapacitated for a long length of time. If an 18-year-old wants to see if rest and recovery will work first, it's his right, and it was probably the best decision for him.

    Sports in the 21st century have seemed to evolve dramatically and in a short period of time. My crystal ball says some team is going to have success by somehow increasing contact (probably with a particular type of players who aren't expensive) OR a team figuring out how to consistently beat today's new launch angle craze (high fastballs?) and the rest of the copy-cats follow suit. My crystal ball says the next fad is going to be precision bunting. No one will be swinging the bat, they'll all be trying to reach on bunt singles. You guys are going to love it!

    Wow, if I were to picture in my mind what a stereotypical catcher looks like, it would be Bobby Wilson exactly.

    If he can do this for a couple of more starts hopefully it makes the powers-that-be much less reluctant to make tough calls on poorly performing vets. It would be nice to get Gonsalves a start in Lynn's place prior to Santana coming back. It would be a lot easier to go with three youngsters in Berrios, Romero and Gonsalves if they've all had a look at the majors. It's going to be hard for him to get his foot in the door when Santana, Lynn, Gibson and Odorizzi are all fighting for three spots.

    I don't want to set unreasonably high expectations as far as a timeline goes. On the other hand I also don't want to hear people saying it can't be done or the team is smart not to do it when other teams are promoting their 19 or 20-year-old top prospects.

    If Polanco or Gordon are destined to be the starting SS here the next couple of years, I'm all aboard the Escobar extension train. The future of Dozier and Sano are murky and he's an excellent safety net. He's versatile enough and still likely cheap enough that extending him in no way would preclude the team from also addressing 2nd or 3rd later should better options appear.

    Why not then put him to use in the first half then demote him should he struggle in the second?

    Geez so cynical, it's not like he's going to start! We've got a 28-year-old SS with a career .638 OPS ready to make an impact.
