  1. I wonder how many beers Colon had during that long half-inning.
  2. I was actually kind of apathetic about the trade. I thought Ynoa wasn't enough to get upset about at this point, and Garcia won't be enough. Not much there. I think you talked me into liking it. If it helps them at least play meaningful games for a little while longer, that'll be worth it. Some playoff atmosphere, if not the actual playoffs, would be nice.
  3. Meh. Too little, too late. Giving away Ynoa for nothing, essentially. It kind of tells you their thoughts on how long they expect Big Sexy to hang around.
  4. It's too hard to analyze catching numbers and be satisfied, because it's so reliant on uncontrollable forces. A catcher could catch one pitching staff and look statistically great, then another and look terrible. Framing numbers especially. Pitchers/umpires are not created equal, and could potentially cause large swings in how those numbers look. You're not always comparing an apple to an apple, no matter how you try to level the field.
  5. This certainly improves the back-end of the rotation. I hope they didn't give up anything significant. Could be a pretty good move.
  6. Rosario is hitting 30 points higher than Dozier. In terms of OBP, Rosario is reaching base 1 fewer time for every 100 ABs. It is curious.
  7. It would be pretty big for this team if Mejia could have the best start of his career tonight. Good start so far.
  8. I usually defend Molitor, but it is ridiculous that he has Granite hitting 2. Is it a cry for attention at this point?
  9. The Twins defense giveth, and taketh. I think it's time to end the Polanco experiment. That potential tailor made double play ball he booted was absolutely brutal. Berrios should've been out of that inning, and 8 runs followed. I don't care if you're Nolan Ryan. It won't end well if your defense is giving the most dynamic offense in the game extra outs.
  10. Polanco gets eaten alive by anything other than a perfect hop.
  11. I disagree that Hughes is one of the 12 best in the organization. He's been better out of the pen, but I could easily come up with list of bullpen arms from AA up that I'd rather be giving innings to (Curtiss, Busenitz, Reed, Bard, Melotakis, off the top of my head, have been pretty darn good). They didn't DFA him because of his albatross of a contract. Everyone complains about the Mauer contract. But they still owe Hughes 26 million through 2019.
  12. Honest question here, not rhetorical criticism of the organization: What does Gonsalves have left to work on in AA? The 11th start of the year (63 innings) and he's got 12 walks. His WHIP is under 1. He's striking out well over a batter per inning. Is it the injury they're worried about, or do they think he has things to improve on? I have a hunch that he'd be more productive than the undead corpse of Big Sexy. There should be no problem finding a roster spot. A middle-rotation left who can possibly miss some bats could propel this team to the playoffs. At least that upside is there, whereas that tank is empty in regards to guys like Colon, Santiago, etc. Do we see him in the second half?
  13. Realistically, I don't think they're going tonbe hanging around with Cleveland much longer. I think it would be a good idea to get some of the guys mentioned, like Garver and Romero, a taste of the big club. If they happen to perform and help the club win some games, its gravy.
  14. Not sure why you limit his innings in this way,as opposed to shutting him down early, unless you think you're going to need him on the big club at some point.
  15. The seedings of the thing were absurd. Stanton and Judge were rightfully 1 and 2. However, putting Moustakas and especially Bellinger ahead of Sano was flat out ridiculous. Clearly a popularity contest, which is fine. But, why call it "seeding." You're not "seeding," you're trying to cherry pick semi-final and final match-ups (e.g., they really wanted Bellinger in the semis). Judge is unreal. The ease with which he hits homeruns is pretty amazing. Sano gave one of the best HR Derby performances ever, IMO, and was totally overshadowed.
  16. Sure, nobody really expected them to be above .500, but I see more as a missed opportunity than anything else. One or two affordable bullpen arms, and this team is in first place. The offense and defense are there. The season was basically punted away before it began in that regard.
  17. I'm trying not to put any stock in Lewis' first couple of weeks, good or bad. But, it's hard not to be encouraged right now.
  18. The way he's been getting on base this last week, combined with his elite defense, is very exciting. I think Smalley hit it on the head the other night when he said that Buxton figuring things out offensively could elevate this team to another level. Very dangerous lineup.
  19. I raised an eyebrow after the second round. The later you wait to make your "overslot pick," the less likely you are to find a quality guy worth punting on certain guys early in the draft process. The Enlow pick made me feel a lot better. It turned out well because they signed everyone they wanted (needed) to. I like to think it's because they had solid intel in place. But, if they couldn't sign Leach or Enlow, for example, it would've hurt. Let's call it net present value of draft picks. I'd rather allocate more to the first pick than defer a pick. Now, I absolutely love the draft.
