Those are the comments I was referring to. I'd have more hope for Polhad's comments if they weren't reported by Sid. He does still have his moments though.

The Cubs improved rapidly because they unloaded their bad contracts, whether it be via trade or outright releasing them. That freed up time for cheaper, more effective players and eventually to their stud farm system that they developed via unloading trades of the few valuable vets they had. This FO is not that far thinking and that's backed up by TR's comments.

Well that was an insightful, invigorating read to start the day! Such joy it has brought me! It gives me a "What could possibly go wrong today?" vibe. In all seriousness though, I think this is laid out pretty well. There are positive signs in the not so distant future. However, those signs are obscured by hanging tree branches that are a delusional understanding of where this team is. Playing aging veterans over kids that are showing their readiness in AAA does nothing for you. It doesn't help you win games. It doesn't help you fill seats. It doesn't help you sell more of your expensive concessions or fill your ever expanding plethora of bars. It simply brings more of the same. More of the same mediocrity. More of the same complacency. More of the same apathy from fans. More of stupid baseball and the losses it brings with. With the recent comments from TR, I'm convinced that he can't see the forest through the trees. That's alarming to me in so many ways. We've already endured four recent 90+ loss seasons. How much more patience can this FO and ownership expect the fans to exhibit when they exhibit no inkling of making the necessary changes.

Article: What To Do With Phil Hughes?

I read that and my side instantly started to hurt. That does not sound fun at all. Good luck, Mr. Hughes. -

...and there were books...books are a bunch of pieces of paper bound together with a front and back cover...anyway, there were these books with the names, addresses, and phone numbers of everyone in town in them! They also had the phone numbers of pizza joints - yes, we had to call to order a pizza. Yes, they did deliver. No, not by horse and buggy. -
I'm going to need a new computer monitor after reading that Sano was in RF again. They aren't as resistant to fists as I'd hoped.

Article: Setting Up For The Second Half
wsnydes replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I like how you laid that out. I'd prefer to hang on to Santana as well, but am not opposed to dealing him. With the group that you mentioned that are already here or waiting in the wings, it would be nice to have at least one veteran in the group. Gibson has the years, but Santana has the experience.- 96 replies

Do you hold onto Dozier because he might be part of a good team in 2-3 years, or do you trade him in order to help you be a good team in 2-3 years. I agree, that is probably the most difficult decision at this point.- 64 replies

I'm with you on Escobar at SS. He's fine, not a liability there, but not a SS on a good team. I foresee him being there until Gordon arrives, and I think I'm okay with that approach considering where this team is. Trading Dozier is a wild card to me. I'd definitely do it for a reasonable return. I do want to see Polanco there and iI see him as the long term 2B.- 64 replies

I think you hit the nail on the head. I don't think you can trade both Escobar and Nunez. I see Escobar, for better or worse, the SS until Gordon gets here. Having to go find a starting caliber SS isn't easy or cheap. Plus, it doesn't make any sense when you have one that isn't a liability. Could they do better? Sure, but there isn't much of a reason to at this point.- 64 replies

Can you imagine the reality TV show that could be made out of the Brady Bunch? I'm guessing that my wife would never stop watching it. I think I'd rather she kept watching the endless string of wedding dress shows on TLC though. -

that was entertaining. Interesting point on the hero. Seems as though TR neglected to sign him as well... Here's to hoping that the Twins put up more of a fight than they're accustomed to at Yankee Stadium! -

Aside from no reasonable return, I'm having trouble identifying reasons not to. It would be nice to sell high versus sell low for a change. -
Article: Teaching Patience (At The Plate)
wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Looking at the Cubs quickly, all of their top prospects that have been called up in the last few years have all been called up from AAA. Bryant had 330 ABs at AAA. Rizzo had 350 before the Padres called him up and then another 250 after he was traded to the Cubs. The Cardinals operate similarly, see Randal Grichuk. Buxton and Sano both skipped AAA completely before being called up, IIRC. These are quick snapshots of the first names that came to mind, I don't have the time right now to dig into it deeper.- 61 replies

Article: Reflecting On Hard Truths About Prospects
wsnydes replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I think you'd be doing well if you could get a top 100 prospect for him. Otherwise, I think the answer is simply not trading him. The question then becomes, is he going to be your 2B when this team should be peaking in 3 to 5 years? I don't and I think Polanco will eventually take over. Another question would be, do you trade Polanco? Does he have more or less value than Dozier? I worry a bit that Dozier is a Dan Uggla type. -
Article: Reflecting On Hard Truths About Prospects
wsnydes replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
As someone that advocates trading Dozier, I would certainly not make the move for a Hoey-level return. If they can get a reasonable return on him then I see no reason not to trade him. I feel that's where this team is at - trade veterans for younger talent and to make room for prospects. I'm more willing to move Plouffe for less so Sano gets out of the outfield. I don't see Plouffe in the long term picture, whereas Dozier still a couple of years. -
Article: Twins Designate Oswaldo Arcia
wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't see it happening without quite a few moves and a few things working their way like you pointed out, but if some of the young guys come up and succeed it may not be insane to see them do that. I personally don't think it'll happen, mainly because I don't think the necessary moves will be made. I think the talent is there for the position players. Like has been pointed out, the pitching is what needs to improve in order for them to have even a remote chance of approaching a .500 clip.- 267 replies

wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't see why any of those couldn't be both. I was taught how to go with a pitch before I even got to high school. By the time I graduated, it was automatic. Good question on the Ks and becoming good. I'd be interesting in that answer as well.- 61 replies

Article: Reflecting On Hard Truths About Prospects
wsnydes replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Hardy's knock, in my view, will always be his health. When he was healthy, he was very good at the plate and in the field. His big years in Baltimore were largely due to his good healthy. That trade in particular bothered me a lot. They got nothing for a starting caliber SS. I've never minded the Gomez trade all that much. -

Article: Teaching Patience (At The Plate)
wsnydes replied to Seth Stohs's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Buxton seems to be "okay" when he's ahead in the count. That helps him eliminate a pitchers options. I definitely agree that Kepler is ahead of Buxton in the hitting department. That is the extra time in the minors showing up. Buxton should be sent back down, bring up Rosario and have Kepler and Rosario split time in CF.- 61 replies
