  1. I was just at their taproom yesterday. Had myself one of their tasty sour beers. I need one of those fancy refrigerated drawers at my desk for beer.
  2. That 6pm suggestion would have been nice too. I would have been able to be at home on the couch and watch it. Now I have to listen to it on the radio while I pretend to work.
  3. See, I assumed you were asking who would be the first to crack a beer. That is a solid choice though. Mine will be one of a Surly Xtra-Citra Pale Ale, Schell's Maifest, or some sort of home brew.
  4. I wish it were me, but I'm pretty sure someone has already beat me to it.
  5. It was a grand slam. That is an appropriate time to use the bat flip. I'm really excited to see Park crush a homer to give the Twins a late inning lead and watching the ensuing bat flip.
  6. There is definitely still a lot of hope for Stewart in my mind. Yes, I would also like to see a lot more strikeouts, but I think that is just a little bit away. Anyone who is inducing groundballs at 59% is doing something right. Some of those pitches are going to turn into some swinging strikes, some will probably turn into more line drives/fly balls, and many of them will continue to be groundballs. I agree this is big year for him, but I'm putting money on him making some improvements. There's still a lot of potential there and no reason to give up on him yet.
  7. You're right, we did hear a lot of pre-trade rumors about Morneau and Willingham and Liriano, but those were also obvious trade candidate. All of them were on expiring contracts on a team that was pretty much already out of the playoff picture. From the other FA guys that we were pursuing, there is always a chance that this sort of info was leaked by the agents to help increase their players value. But, it could have been leaked from the Twins FO. There's no way of knowing. I agree some stuff leaks out about the Twins and FAs though. A more recent example was the Hicks/Murphy trade. That one had no trade buzz leading up to it. So it could be reasonable to assume that they had also talked to teams about Plouffe during that time, but we really have no way of knowing.
  8. I will say this, we don't know how hard the Twins' FO tried to trade Plouffe. They probably were waiting for some other teams to ask for him, or ask for someone else so they could use Plouffe as a counter offer. The other thing I will say is, that Twins trade rumors almost never pop up until something is about to happen. The FO doesn't let a lot of things out to the media. So, in actuality, we don't know how hard they tried to trade Plouffe, if it all. They very well could have had plans to trade him and it was obvious that the market wasn't there, or the might not have tried to trade him at all. But no one who isn't in the FO can say for certain that they made no effort just because we didn't hear any rumor before hand.
  9. I'm sorry I missed it this year. Sounds like everyone had a good time.
  10. Now, all we need is for Bark to photoshop that picture to make it looking like Molitor was doing a mic drop and we'd have a game thread vibe going on here. Good job with the article.
  11. I don't think the ship has sailed on trading Plouffe. It could be that a team that is interested in him might want to know exactly how much they'd have to pay him before pulling the trigger on a trade. A team that would be interested in him should have a good idea, but they may want to get that number nailed down as he's likely to get a raise next year as well.
  12. I think Wimmers still might have a shot to do a little bit in the MLB. I don't think he's completely cooked yet. We'll see.
  13. You are correct. They won't necessarily go before an arbitrator. As I mentioned before, they have until the arbitration hearing is complete to negotiate a deal. Tendering a contract to a player, is the same as saying the team is willing to go through the arbitration process to keep that player around. I'm not sure what the conversation has turned to here. The original question was whether the player could reject the team tendering a contract to them. The answer is no the play cannot reject it and become a free agent. I don't know how the QO thing got built into this conversation. That is a separate thing that does not apply to Fien being tendered a contract. As far as Fien goes, I don't think tendering him a contract is the worst thing. I have to agree with others that he shouldn't be the 8th inning guy, but he does have some upside if he's more of a 6th inning guy.
  14. Or confusing the qualifying offer system to the old system with type A and type B free agents. Under that system, players could decline arbitration offers, and the team would get draft compensation, but this system has been replaced with the qualifying offer. That system still wouldn't have applied to Fien though, as the service time requirements did not change.
  15. This doesn't have anything to do with the qualifying offer. That is only for players that are pending free agents (minimum of 6 years of service time). Tendering a contract just means that the player will receive a contract from the team that owns his rights (under 6 years of service time). There does not need to be an actual dollar amount at that time. The team and the player can negotiate a salary. This will lead to the beginning of the arbitration process. They can negotiate up until an arbitrator makes a salary ruling, which would be binding. So, tendering a contract is the start of the process.
  16. He was offered a contract. If they can't reach an agreement, then it will go to arbitration, where the Twins and Fien will both submit an offer, and a neutral arbitrator will decide who's salary number is more accurate based on Fien's previous performance. Whatever number the arbitrator picks will be Fien's salary for the year, and he cannot reject it and become a free agent.
  17. The Korean team didn't have to let him leave. They could have just kept him if they wanted, and he wouldn't get his chance to play in the MLB until next year. So, they're actually doing Park a favor by getting him paid more than he would have made in the KBO.
  18. I am excited about this deal. Congrats to everyone involved. I'm excited to see Park blasting HRs out of Target Field in 2016.
  19. It would depend on how his showcase goes in January. If he's recovered from his hip surgery, and that helps him bring his velocity back up on his fastball, then maybe. I would expect that if his velocity is better than the 88mph he was throwing last year, then someone would give him a one year deal as a starter. If his FB velocity is 88 or lower, then I would have to say the Twins should pass.
  20. Great article. I have heard some people make this comparison on the radio, which has always seemed silly to me. TR even said something like "this is just like Nishioka" in a press-conference, but I'm pretty sure he was only saying that in reference to negotiating a contract and timelines. Also, slight nit to pick: Rob Refsnyder was born in South Korea, yes... but he was adopted when he was 5-months old and lived in California after that. I'm not sure he's worth mentioning as a comparison. And, I know Hyun-Jin Ryu is a pitcher, but he also played in the KBO and has been able transfer his skills to the MLB. Just a thought.
