  1. I agree. There's also the possibility that they have seen a few guys that they really like but aren't eligible to sign next's year's signing period, so they want to ensure they have the ability to sign some next year. There are a lot of factors that are going into whether or not to go way over the bonus pool, and I'm not sure that we'll ever know everything that went into these decisions. I agree that it's not really Ryan's style to go all out like that though. Javier sounds like he could be a very exciting prospect though. I'm excited to see him develop.
  2. It's true. You have to go big to get those guys, but they signed when the rules were different as well, which made it a lot easier for teams to go really big on international prospects. I think they should go big too, but what if there was really only the one guy (Javier) that they really liked this year? (I find it hard to believe that he's the only guy, though). But to give one guy your entire bonus pool means they must have really liked what they have seen in this kid. So, I think the Twins are going big in a way this year. I'm sure the Cubs, Dodgers, Giants and other teams are going to get penalized in the new CBA for going over their pool this year. I can't see there being an agreement among all the other teams that would allow teams going over their limit this signing period to not face any penalty at all.
  3. I would say that is true for some players, but not all. Some players like knowing the stability and knowing where they're going to be for the next few years. If you sign a bunch of guys to extensions, then turn around and trade them that year, agents are going to stop letting the people they represent sign those extensions. Also, usually the point of signing players to extensions is so that you can control your costs. Throwing more money at free agents doesn't really accomplish that. Either way, I still believe that Hughes will add a lot of value to this team in the next few years. If I had to trade a pitcher to get get Santana into the rotation, Hughes wouldn't be the guy I traded.
  4. They just signed Hughes to an extension. They're not going to trade him. No player would ever sign an extension with your team again. Simple as that. I actually think that Hughes will have more value in 2016 and 2017 than he will in a trade at this point, so I would hang on to him. I was at the Friday and Saturday Twins Brewers games, and I was against using the DH in the National League. After watching pitchers flail away helplessly, I'm all in favor of the DH now. Here's hoping the Twins forget about Milwaukee and really take it to the Reds.
  5. Well, I will be attending the game tonight. Hopefully, Buxton will launch his first major league home run and I will catch it in the home run porch. Then I will give it back to the young man. He'll probably want that ball.
  6. Happy bday, Bark. May you have many more years of entertaining us with amazing photoshop work.
  7. 100% correct. It is $100k limit. Anything over that limit is counted against the draft pool money.
  8. Well, if you look at that video of 8th rounder Kolten Kendrick taking batting practice and hitting balls into/over trees in the outfield, you'll understand why the Twins drafted that guy. The other 1B, well everyone explained those guys already. You never know though. Some of these guys might turn out to be something.
  9. My guess is that they had an idea of how much it would take to sign Kendrick before they picked him. He's committed to Southeast Louisiana. If he were committed to a college with a little higher profile, I might be a little more concerned. I have a feeling the Twins will be able to sign him.
  10. Seems like left handed power has been the theme of the draft today.
  11. Marlins just took Travis Neubeck. Not notable except for his hometown of Hugo, MN. So that's kind of fun for a local kid.
  12. Correct. They don't have the slot money for a round 2 selection. Bonus pool money is based on the picks that a team actually has, not what they would have had before forfeiting picks.
  13. Yeah, it's great to see him put some things together so far this year. I've been a big fan of him since they signed him as well. Very interesting prospect. I'm not sure that he ends up playing on the team before September. It would probably take a few injuries for that to happen, but I guess it could be possible. I can't imagine that he keeps this pace up, but if continues to hit decently and keeps showing some power, I could definitely see him earning a September call up. If that is the case, he'd have his first taste of the big league at the age of 22! Not too shabby.
  14. So that's what happened to Tootie. I've always wondered.
  15. I think that he ends up in the bigs around July if he keeps this up. If he's not up by mid-July, then we probably don't see him until next April. I can't see the Twins waiting that long if he's hitting like this. Just think about what his numbers could look like if he hadn't had that slow start...
  16. As far as I know, most, if not all, minor league managers act as base coaches during games. I hope Michael is ok. That looked rough. I was happy that he was finally starting to get something going. Here's hoping for a speedy recovery.
  17. Are you suggesting that you buy gifts for your wife before her actual birthday and not that day? This is an intriguing concept.
  18. This made me laugh. I propose we start a committee to determine if everyone should now only refer to Scott Boras as "Scooter", because if he's going to come up with silly ideas like this, he should at least be referred to by a silly name.
  19. #9 could also be the best choice if urinal #10 is the urinal that is low to the ground... you know, for the kids.
  20. Am I to assume that this statement means that you actually own, and use an atlas?
  21. Legends club is pretty fun. All the seats are pretty good. The legends club itself is pretty spacious and is by far less crowded than the rest of the concourses.
  22. If he continues to consistently pitch 8 innings while only giving up 1 run... never?
  23. They always search bags over a certain size. I'm pretty sure they were searching for alcohol that fans were trying to sneak in.
