Twins Daily 2023 Top Prospects: #5 Edouard Julien, 2B
Lonestar replied to Jeremy Nygaard's topic in Twins Minor League Talk
Julien hit .218/.373/..276 (.649 OPS) vs LHP's in the hitter's paradise known as the Texas League while striking out 27.3% of the time.. Plus he can't play defense. IMO, he is way overrated on this list and by those who are counting on him in 2024 -
With the end of shifting 2B is a premium position. You made me look. Against LHPs in the Texas League hitting environment, Julien hit .210/.373/.276 (.649) in 134 plate appearances, striking out 36 times (26.9%). Arraez became a good fielder at 1B. Julien hasn't been tried there yet, but he is terrible at 2B. Julien figures to be healthier.

This Twins Team Is Better Than the 2019 Squad
Lonestar replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You left out DH (Nelson Cruz) and have a lot riding on Kirilloff. You overlook Luis Arraez's contribution to 2019.- 50 replies

I agree Gallo gets a lot of value from his OF defense. Falvey made a big deal of Gallo's positional flexibility, mentioning CF, 1B, and even 3B. Sounds like Boras speaking. Gallo's perceived flexibility is worth a lot given the uncertainties regarding Kirilloff and Lewis. Admittedly their uncertainties are different as to nature and extent, but it seems many posters disregard those uncertainties. Falvine don't disregard them. Since signing Gallo, they looked into Michael Taylor and Ramon Laureano. Taylor makes me think they are not sold on Nick Gordon (or rather that they might sell high on Gordon, like they did with Arraez). Laureano's acquisition seems like it would logically precede trading Kepler. Laureano could backup CF for 3 years, making Gordon very expendable.

Gallo plays much better corner outfield defense than Profar. Gallo plays better CF defense than Nick Gordon; Profar does not.

Ranking the Trade Value of Twins Corner Outfielders
Lonestar replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Cody, you left out Nick Gordon and Eduard Julien. Gallo can replace Gordon in CF. I agree that Wallner might be at his peak. He's Gallo without defense.- 33 replies

Ranking the Trade Value of Twins Corner Outfielders
Lonestar replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
No, it's not. Compare their trade values on recent trades. Most of the mock trades are garbage.- 33 replies

The Best Twins Prospect You've Never Heard Of

Why are neither Camargo or Isola on MLB Pipeline's Twins Top 30 prospect list, but Sabato, Strotman, and Helman are? -
Could Carlos Correa Opt Back in for 2023?
Lonestar replied to Cody Pirkl's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
This is so much sophistry -- I mean small sample size. He's had 67 AB's with runners in scoring position and 31 with runners in scoring position and 2 out. Last year he had 158 AB's with runners in scoring position and OPSed .842, including 85 AB's with 2 outs and an OPS of .915. PS The Twins are not giving him nearly as many chances as the Astros did.- 90 replies

Twins Tidbit: Where are the Missing Runs?
Lonestar replied to TwinsData's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
OPS is not the formula for Runs Created. And 18 runs is just normal statistical variation (noise). -
Is there value in winning a playoff round?
Lonestar replied to jorgenswest's topic in Minnesota Twins Talk
Last year Atlanta was a mediocre team in a weak division when they addressed their needs in the outfield, turned things around, and won series after series, including the World Series. -
If Parada cant be a MLB catcher (ringe receiver and ball-blocker with a 45 arm), he we be a lot like Berry or Kyle Schwarber.

Is Arraez healthy and in shape? Can he regain the offensive luster he had in 2019 (admittedly with a livelier ball then)? Why is Gordon on this team? Who gets bumped from the rotation?

Roster Repercussions from Randy Dobnak’s Injury
Lonestar replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What has to change is that guys have to stay healthy. If they do stay healthy and don't stink, the only way Balazovic, Winder and Duran don't pitch with the Twins this year is if one or more are traded for established pitching, hopefully relatively young. I think the Twins like Montas because of his front-line potential, 180+ inings, 2 years of team control, and maybe the possibility of extending him for less than Berrios' deal. Then again, the Rays want him for everything but possibly extending him and they have more to offer.- 23 replies

Roster Repercussions from Randy Dobnak’s Injury
Lonestar replied to Cody Christie's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
You are perhaps right on Winder. We have spring training to find out. I would be reluctant to include him in a Montas deal. It's not necessarily wasting bullets in St. Paul to groom Duran as a starter in St. Paul. I don't think the Twins will be wasting bullets in St. Paul, given that their competitive window is very much open and seeing what they gave up to get Correa and Gray.- 23 replies

IIRC, the Twins had a good record when Clippard and Wisler opened in a year they won the AL Central by 1 game.- 23 replies

What Does Max Kepler Have to Prove in 2022?
Lonestar replied to Theo Tollefson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
IIRC, Kepler's power in 2019 was legit -- that is, not solely attributable to the juiced ball. What I liked best about this story was that Max was working out with Alex and Dave Kirilloff. I'm OK with him until the Twins come up with 2 better overall corner outfielders. -

A Perfect Free Agent Exists for the Twins
Lonestar replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
What Chris said. Based on Rodon's medicals in November, the ChiSox didn't offer Rodon a Qualifying Offer. I think Rodon is counting on (or hoping for) his medicals to improve by the end of lockdown. And how much competition will the Twins have if that is the case. You can't count on winning the bidding.- 61 replies

A Letter to the Twins Front Office and to Buxton's Agent
Lonestar commented on terrydactyls's blog entry in A Look Back
You can give incentives for hardware as well as games played. Give Buxton incentives for games played. Try having them partially vest after he reaches 140 games one year. Have them fully vest if he reaches that threshold the next year. -
It looks like a fair trade for Buxton. I wonder if Atlanta can't do better (after they lose the Series to the Astros)> I don't know where the values for Eduardo Rodriguez and Raisel Iglesias come from. They seem to be 60 cents on the dollar.
