  1. I agree with you. I wouldn't give up on him yet, but I would have him start in Rochester.
  2. Jim Callis wrote an article recently, stating we were one of 5 teams that improved our farm system the most. Can't help but notice, the national experts are much higher on our favorite team, than many on the board. Also, top of the rotation guys don't grow on trees and every team is looking for them. To get anyone to answer the phone, I would guess you're talking a minimum of Thorpe and Graterol.
  3. I'm guessing it will take one more year after this for Berrios to hit his ceiling. Whether he ever wins hardware depends on a lot of things he can't control. I believe he will become the mythical ace the board is lusting for.
  4. No team ever has a good year, merely because of their #5 starter. It's not Perez's fault he's not Kershaw. Take this move for what it is.
  5. Very well written article. Mejia gave us all of 25 innings last season, and I'm not convinced he's healthy. Perez's and Mejia's ceilings are virtually identical and Perez has a higher floor(unlikely Mejia puts in 7-8 years). This signing gives us flexibility at a very reasonable price. If Mejia, Gonsalves, Stewart,Thorpe or Littell become a world beater, we can move Perez to the pen or DFA him. Note, when moved to the pen, Perez's velocity spikes.
  6. The current regime is very good at trading. If you are talking about TR, there was no one left to trade after they obtained Meyer and May. My expectations are high for the rest. Guess that ties it up, 1 to 1.
  7. Actually almost every team has the ammo. Also, the team that comes in second, can we all agree they didn't even try.
  8. He only has 2 pitches. Velocity difference between his fastball and change is only 5 mph. My take is rather than spend more time in Rochester, he starts in the pen this year and moves to the rotation in the future. I'm guessing they can refine his change in bullpen sessions. We need our best 12 arms at Target Field on day 1.
  9. Actually it's the other way around. Free agency is the market of last resort to most teams.
  10. Are you talking about the Canadian who was 17 when he was drafted? In the 2017 draft, when we played games, we ended up with a very good starting pitching prospect in the 4th round. Let me say this one more time. In early 2017, we had the second youngest team in all of baseball, based on weighted playing time. Can't be more aggressive in promoting players than that.
  11. We are looking to contend in 2019. We evaluated approximately a half dozen prospects last September and I'm sure we will look at a like number next September. Perez was never signed to win the shebang all by himself.
  12. Did you notice Perez is 10 years younger and left handed? Let's hope it's like the Belisle move of 2017. That was a big part of our making the play-offs. Is anyone keeping track of how many free agents in the history of this board membership has embraced? Cruz makes one right?
  13. At some point in time pitching becomes a numbers game. We have decent major league ready starting pitching in Rochester, no where else do we have numbers on our side either starting or in the pen. I expect us to continue to be very active at the trade deadline and 1 year contracts are an excellent tool. We do have members badmouthing 1 year contracts, but they are far from convincing.
  14. Experience. Also, do we even known if Mejia has recovered from his nerve damage?
  15. Did you know in early 2017, we were the second youngest team in all of baseball, based on weighted playing time? The facts show your post isn't very accurate. That wasn't even 2 years ago.
  16. They were in on Darvish to the bitter end. It was all documented in the monumental Darvish meltdown thread.
  17. Of course they can. What money problems are you concerned about? I don't see any.
  18. Indeed that's what people on the board want. They want us to spend like a large market team. Go back and review the Darvish meltdown thread. There is death, taxes, and my favorite team is owned by the Pohlads. IT'S NOT EVER GOING TO CHANGE!
  19. They said some very nice things about our favorite team, I hope everyone got a chance to read that. I agree, we have a pretty strong group to form a bridge to our closer. Does anyone else feel you have get off this board to get an accurate and consistent assessment of our chances?
  20. Belisle had the best ERA on the team in 2017 after June 15th. I believe the Indians thought he was a major league pitcher early in 2018 also.
  21. I don't care which one we get, as long as we get one. I look for Reed to rebound in a big way, and given time I think Romero will be solid until he can refine his change-up and return to the rotation in 2020. I think we might be playing beer ball this season and won't lose half our games by 1 run.
