  1. The wrong Reed has trade value and has earned a long leash. Last year about this time we had members who wanted to DFA Gibson and Pressly.
  2. The philosophy should always be that ST is just ST.
  3. Anything can happen, but Schoop specifically wanted a 1 year make good deal. He has a lot of confidence as well he should. Solid move.
  4. IMO they revised the team chemistry statement, and moved on to the amount of missed ST. If our scouts think the 2 K's are ready, or will be shortly, I'd make a deal, particularly for Kimbrel.
  5. The most knowledgeable member on the board for IFA is biggentleben. But as the other member posted, there is no list.
  6. Mike Radcliff said on Inside Twins that we are one of a handful of teams that will follow 16 and 17 year-olds. You may have noticed the pitcher we received in the Pressly trade was signed by the Astros at 19.
  7. Gonsalves has pitched all of 24 innings in The Show. His debut was not dissimilar to Gibson's, May's, or Berrios's. Probably 80% of all starting pitchers go through the same process. It's often said our favorite team can't develop starting pitching. I'm projecting 4 members of the rotation in 2020 will have been drafted and developed by the Twins. 1 Bill Smith guy and 3 of TR's.
  8. We got a catcher in the Hughes trade, one from IFA money sent to Seattle, and our 6th round pick in the 2013 draft continues to move up. Catcher is not the black hole it was.
  9. Only similarities between the two are both are coming off career years, both have good power, and the national experts thought both were solid moves. Cron is a low risk, high reward placeholder. Rooker and Kirilloff will probably be up in September, and hopefully one will take over 1B early in 2020.
  10. I give them a B. Brought in 3.75 regulars, didn't touch our farm system and still have money to maneuver at the deadline.
  11. I haven't read a thing from the national experts saying he is a 1 or 2. May be somewhere someplace, but to say we're the only people in baseball is wildly exaggerated. My guess is Castro will be traded, no later than the deadline. Then we will find out if he's more than the flavor of the month.
  12. The more I think about it, the more I agree with the wait and see approach. Obviously at this point in time Buxton and Sano have not overachieved as we assumed they would. If both tank this season, the teardown will begin at the deadline. If only one shines, the decision will probably be we can wait for Lewis, Kirillioff, etc. Also, I would not automatically trade the one who tanks. Hicks was almost 28 before the light came on, and I believe Go Go Gomez was reasonable close to that. We bought in 3.75 regulars. Parker and Perez are placeholders waiting to be replaced by our near Major League ready arms. Time to rock and roll.
  13. I would start Hildy in Rochester. Magill out pitched him by a large margin last season.
  14. Kinley was on the team 2 weeks or so. Moya was another mistake. Common sense dictated, they had to let the Hughes thing play out and they hit a grand slam there. Those fools in San Diego gave us 7.25M for the 74th pick in the 2109 draft. That's the stuff of legends.
  15. I wouldn't be surprised if they made a low level deal on another reliever, but then again I have no problem with Magill. He did a good job as a long reliever and they started to use him in high leverage situations toward the end of the season. I think I read payroll is at 106M. Another extension or so, and we're getting there. I'm ecstatic the Pohlads are letting us sign our own players. I not expecting much else. The new regime, much like the old one, is operating with one hand tied behind their back, and I don't expect that to ever change.
  16. You convinced me. That would be a killer pen.
  17. I thought about a QO for Schoop also. My guess is, it really depends on how close Gordon and Lewis are. Schoop has got to be one of the best pick ups this offseason. We picked up 3 starters, 2 placeholders in Parker and Perez, and depth in Torreyes. Free agency is more than just signing the most expensive thing on the menu.
  18. We added Romero and Parker. May and Mejia only gave us 25 innings each last season. Looks to me like we have added a lot already. Too many members confuse free agency with Christmas. Also, Reed being comeback player of the year is a lock.
  19. I don't think they are going to trade their prospects, not unlike TR. We basically have 3 drafts. Rule 4, IFA, and the trade deadline. And no, they don't have to throw in the towel to have a very active deadline. They showed that in 2017. It's all about asset management to them. When Severino became available from the Braves, we jumped all over him because we came close previously. Look at how many IFA's we picked up at the 2018 trade deadline. I'm guessing we are using our extensive IFA expertise to target these prospects when they become available on the trade market. If we make a blockbuster trade, it will most likely involve the core of 4 plus Rosario and Polanco.
  20. I'm guessing Thorpe is the one who rises to the top. We have a ton of flexibility. If we can't keep Thorpe down on the farm, it will be painless to DFA Perez. On the relief side, same with Parker. Neither one is a Hughes type deal, where we need to find, as some unnamed GM was quoted as saying, an insane GM.
