  1. He was a good administrator and the only FO employee ever popular on this board. If you want to know the truth about who actually made the final decision contact LaVelle or feel free to meet me at the downtown library at 300 Nicollett Ave. at your convenience.
  2. How do you know there is a wait and see attitude with Buxton and Sano? You're confusing signing first with offered first.
  3. I agree with you, we were bringing up our top prospects too early. That lead to the ouster of TR because of our disastrous 2016 season. He compounded it, by having no plan B.
  4. Completely agree. The problem was missing 4 weeks and 2 weeks of ST respectively. Players know their careers are relatively short, and they are not going to spent a season pouting.
  5. The rule of thumb is you need at least an 8 mph differential. Romero last I heard was 5 mph.

    Depth

I agree, we did a much better job accumulating depth this off season. I think Torreyes and Astudillo may be key. Very big year for our major league ready pitching also.
  7. We need big years from the core of 4 plus Rosario and Polanco. No we don't need career years. I feel Buxton only needs to bat .240-.250 to be an All-Star. If Sano can stay healthy 30 homes runs is more than possible. Before last season, all of our writers except one or two predicted we would make the player-offs. Cleveland was less than impressive this off season. Absolutely no reason to wait.
  8. Most teams are not looking for players who can play multiple positions. Teams have been specializing for years. Don't buy an Austin or Duda jersey. Gordon will replace Adrianza when he's ready. Think Ron Washington.
  9. I've revered Sid since I learned to read by reading his column. I don't read Gleeman, but every now and then I hit the wrong button.
  10. I agree. Just like they spotted something with Anibal Sanchez. The availability of starting pitching this off season was minimal. At worst he's a cheap placeholder for Mejia, Stuart, Thorpe, or even Rosario. When one of those 4 decide to shine, most likely Perez will be DFA'ed.
  11. Sid and spotrac said we spent $ 114.5.last season. 121M in 2017. I would think everyone would know better than to believe Gleeman. How can you believe a college drop-out? Our favorite team is going for it in 2019! Be there or be square!
  12. It's relevant because 80-90% of starting pitcher's rookie debuts are similar to Gonsalves. Our very own Gibson, May, and Berrios's debuts were not dissimilar. It's part of the process.
  13. The reason why is because that's baseball. The rule of thumb I use is, if you have 10 top starting pitching prospects, 25-30% will make it. Pitching is a numbers game. I learned that many years ago from Andy MacPhail.
  14. Wins and losses are great stats. I still remember how many games I won in college. No idea how many of those WAR things I accumulated. Look, Darvish is no more hurt than Hughes was. The board badmouthed Hughes, I badmouth Darvish. Yes, if Perez gets hurt, he'll continue to be a board scapegoat.
  15. In the last 3 years, Darvish has won 18 games. Perez has won 25. Who made the better deal? Also, he's projected to win one more game than Darvish this season.
  16. On the pitching side, I believe the FO is building up numbers below Rochester. Our major league ready or near ready, will be needed for emergencies, and those that shine will help fill the rotation next season. I'm hoping our best 12 arms head up north and no doubt we will see the rest sometime this season. This may be a make or break season for Mejia, Gonsalves, Littell, Stewart, Thorpe, and to some degree Romero. This is going to be an interesting season, and the more I think about, the more I like the Perez pick up.
  17. If you think every player traded was given up on, you need to pay more attention.
  18. I've been screaming to trade for a youngish 2/3 for several years now. IMHO there are 10-12 #1s, probably 25-30 1s and 2s combined. Virtually every team is looking for the same thing. In 2020, Berrios, Gibson, Romero, Thorpe, free agent. Graterol in 2021. I don't know if I'm safe saying this, but 4 of the 5 are TR's guys.
  19. So what your saying is it's best to be a large market team. Never would have guessed.
  20. I stand corrected. I'm tired of this board judging players on what they wanted, and not being at all realistic. Also, Pavano and Hughes were no where close to being #5s when they were signed.
  21. How many free agents are not question marks? Remember, probably 80% of their previous employers gave up on them. I'm amazed at how many members still view free agency as Christmas time. That's been over for close to 10 years.
  22. Callis is at MLB.com so you should have access( I read the article at TwinkieTown). He gave a big picture view and I'm too lazy to go back and view the specifics. You know about Odorizzi, an IFA was traded for Cave, as was Ynoa for someone I can't recall. The new regime has only been here for a little over 2 years, so it hasn't had time to develope.
