Zounds! Just read where Daniel Palka single-handedly smoked the Indians! Hit 2 dongs, and raised his average above the Palka line! Good job, old pal! I only checked a few brief highlights, but yikes, the body language among the Cleveland team- looking really dispirited, and going through the motions.

Well, took a break from watching hearings in the middle of the night, and fell asleep with the game on. Just long enough to hear Jack Morris say, "Well, they've got the B team out there today..." True, and I'll look forward to catching up with some replay. But pity the Tigers- they had a B team out there, too, but the B team is also their A team. Wonder if they'll keep Gardy around. Hope so.

I concur, Dr. Although, I had to suppress a middle-school chuckle comparing him to a loogy... (Which seems apt at this point).

Eddie is a fabulous player, been one of my favorite Twins for years now, and I love the spark and the moxie he brings to the table. But-------- The brain cramps show up throughout the season, and have throughout his tenure with the club. However, when they show up in bunches in the middle of a September pennant race- a race we Twins fans, and the Twins players themselves have not been a part of in a looooooong time- that needs to be dealt with. All the injuries we have now, it's impossible to bench him. He's also showing signs of heating up again, after a long dry spell. But if I'm the Mgr, I'll keep your bat in the lineup alright, but by God, I'm gonna hold that 7 spot open for ya until you figure a couple things out. 2-3 or even 4 games in the 7 hole should be a strong enough message. There ain't no guarantee of playoffs yet. One look at the Rays and As in the standings could give you shivers if Cleveland manages to catch us. And there ain't no guarantee about another playoff chase 'next year.' Ask the world champion Red Sox about that. Every damn game, every damn atbat counts. Get on it, Eddie.

Truly a magic number. -
Why is Rocco so stubborn, when we've got what amounts to a prototypical leadoff man already on our roster? I swear, every time I see Garver or Kep in the 1 spot, with their 30 homers, and the guy with the OBP 50-60 points higher, a guy who sees pitches, and makes the pitcher work, hitting in the 7 hole.... Why not get a guy on in front of your top HR guys? Yeh, yeh, 'they only lead off once a game," but it's way more than that- they're in front of guys who produce big flies. And unlike Buxton, he's not even hitting 9th, so he could be in front of them a time or two during the game. Just ridiculous. *Edit time- today, for example- your highest on-base guy is not hitting in front of Polanco and Cruz, he's hitting in front of Schoop and LaMarre... SMH

Front Page: Week in Review: Weathering the Storm
David HK replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Cheers, Nick. Great stuff as always. I'm glad the team stepped it up like they did on Saturday. But I REALLY disagree with Rocco about resting everybody on Sunday. We should have gone all out to bury those guys as deep as possible. This race is not yet over, and it feels like we just handed them a game playing a 4A lineup. Go all out, I say, start Berrios, and rest on Monday against the Sox. And Tuesday too, for that matter.- 22 replies

That was a TEAM win. And what a win. I woke up this morning to see the Twinks had the 1st game in hand, and even the Gophers had eked out a win. Left for a hike after the 1st inning, and got back just after the Sano Salami! The grizzled vets stepped up and bailed out the kid, and it was a beautiful thing to see. It's quite a nice surprise that the much-maligned Twins BP has really stepped it up this month, and especially in those 2 games today, when it counted most. We got a series win, which is what we needed, and the rest of our schedule is against the Central's bottom-feeders, but this ain't over yet. Let's go out there tomorrow, boys, and bury these guys in front of their own fans. There's a sweet, small indie movie called Jawbone- the tried-and-true aging-boxer-in-search-of-redemption tale. The anti-hero goes into the intimidating atmosphere of the undefeated stud's gym, in front of his family, friends, and rabid supporters. His calm-demeanored corner man tells him, "Look over there. He's a bully. And he's surrounded by bullies. When that bell rings, I want you to walk across that ring, and break his heart." That's what I want. I wanna break their hearts tomorrow. Does that make me a bad person? ;-) *Edit time: I see we're also tied for the season series, soooo......

Front Page: Silver Linings Amid September Storms
David HK replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Big congrats from afar, and very impressed you were able to put cogent thoughts about baseball together only mere hours after the nuptials! Your contributions help make this site a very special corner of the inter-nets. And many good wishes to you both. This beautiful song from The Boss popped into my head when I read your intro. Should We Be Upset With Yasiel Puig?
David HK commented on Patrick Wozniak's blog entry in Patrick Wozniak's Blog
I gotta harken back to the old Joe DiMaggio quote, when asked why he busted his butt on every single play, even late in the season, with nothing on the line. He said, in effect, that there was probably somebody in those stands who had never been to a game before, never seen him play, and may not go again, and he didn't want that person to see him dogging it, and have that be their memory. I switched over to the Cleveland broadcast to see what they were about, and they were totally roasting Puig, even moreso than Dick. They were really getting on him about being in crucial games in a pennant race, and acting like that, and they were speculating on what Francona was going to do or say, too. I like what he did, though. He had a quick word with Puig, and then he let his dugout leader, Santana, take him off to the side and deal with him. They had a looooong, and very one-sided conversation. I would have pulled him from the game, if I were Tito, but to his credit, he didn't, and Puig came through with good at bats afterward. He most certainly deserved every single boo, though, and then some. What a crappy example for every fan who busts his or her fanny all week, to spend an honest dime to go to a game; fans who can only dream about spending their working life on a ball field, and see a pro athlete behave like that. It's an insult to hard-working folks everywhere. -
Well, once again, Cleveland defeated Rochester, and Clevinger pitched a gem, just as ace-type belly-itchers are supposed to do in a pennant crunch. But holy heck, I'm wondering if Clevinger and Hunter Wood and their scraggly mullets each live in vans down by the river, or if they share just one?
