  1. It's not wrong, bad or evil. DH is a spot in the lineup that needs to be filled. Ortiz started being mostly a DH at age 24 and few bemoan his lack of chances to stay at a position. We could continue to try and make Sano a better fielder, with it likely not turning out. In any event, last year when Sano was killing it in the majors, he was doing that mostly as a DH. It's where he'll end up sooner rather than later anyway. Hurting our defense by delaying the inevitable is, IMO, a bad idea.
  2. well, the rotation is pretty high on the list of questions for me :-)
  3. yeah, I'm sure I'm way off. I enjoyed the very polite way you showed me the error of my ways.
  4. Well, I didn't say he's a 4th OF now, I said, 'It's why I think his future SHOULD BE 4th OF.' Seems clear that the Twins DON'T have better options now so he's a starter now. Hopefully they will in the future. It's like I don't call Santana an ACE type starter just because he's easily our best starter. His talent level says screams top notch 3 starter or the lower end of #2 starter, not Ace.
  5. Probably goes down as a stupid trade even without adding the 4th rounder :-) And it's not just about a 1st rounder and a 4th rounder. The cap hit is going to hurt too. http://www.sbnation.com/2016/9/6/12797614/sam-bradford-trade-vikings-eagles-why Yes, you guys needed someone else, sure. But Bradford was a #1 pick who has flopped (for whatever reason). Now the Eagles get a first round pick for a guy who... A: is hurt a lot himself. B: hasn't been that good when he's been on the field. C: was just replaced by a rookie. But your GM did what he thought he needed to do. It's a pretty big gamble. BTW, in regards to C, that's no knock on Wentz. I'm a big fan of this rookie. Was so disappointed he went to the Eagles. It's like, how can I root for you NOW? :-)
  6. You're not misinterpreting the graphs. What you're looking at can be found on most any sports site. They are basic defensive stats that have been around for quite some time, no cutting edge info. That info can be found on ESPN, MLB dot com, Baseball-Reference, etc. I'm really not sure what the point of comparing CS to outfield assists is though.
  7. Often large outfield assist totals are about opportunity with people running a lot on someone. Alfonso Soriano was able to have a few years where he got a lot of assists too. Yes, Rosario has gunned some people down, but he's also made some bad throws that allowed runners to advance and he's also allowed runners to advance due to ill-advised throws (i.e., throwing to the wrong place because he over-estimated his ability). This team has to play smarter baseball. Too many fundamental mistakes. And for Rosario, between poor defensive fundamentals and the need to swing at anything within a 5 mile radius of the strike zone, he's got major holes in his game. It's why I think his future SHOULD BE 4th OF.
  8. We could just do what Ryan did this offseason. Look at our 2015 record, actually believe the talent level on the team was that good as opposed to being the beneficiary of some advantageous sequencing on the offensive side, and then do zippidy-squat to improve weaknesses that were apparent to most everyone while other teams tried to, you know, actually get better. :-)
  9. I predicted Donaldson would win the AL MVP. Seems at least some didn't think Oakland won :-)
  10. The Donaldson trade is probably the best trade this century (at least from the Jays side, not Oakland's side so much).
  11. all that means is that it would be like most pub crawls where one never quite makes it to their last stop before they quit or pass out :-) In this case though, we're absolutely losing 100 or more.
  12. This guy is likely going to be released end of season. He's spent a lot of time in the minors and letting him wear the MLB uniform for a month in a season like this is, well, commendable. There's a way to run a ballclub and still be a person too.
  13. 'Between 1988 and 2013 there were a total of 537 seasons pitched by pitchers who were 22, and the total fWAR was 327.9. In this time span pitchers join major league rosters around age 23-24, peak around 26 with a sustained decrease in numbers from 27 on that gradually flattens out a bit around age 35.' http://www.beyondtheboxscore.com/2014/2/25/5437902/pitching-aging-curves
  14. Dozier is now 8th in the majors in WAR for position players. He's 6th in the AL, right behind the big 5 who keep being mentioned for AL MVP: Trout, Altuve, Donaldson, Betts and Machado.
  15. I think I said 78 or 79. I know I didn't have us in the 80s in area. Pitching and defense were always going to be killing us.
  16. Well, at least the defense has been consistent all year. Consistently horrible that is :-) In fairness, the pitching has been bad horrendous most all the year with the exception of April. We do have the worst ERA in the first half and the 2nd half. More consistency :-) For many of us, it was pretty clear going into ST that we wouldn't be competing for a playoff spot. The talent gathered by Ryan just wasn't there.
  17. I don't know of too many people who saw 100 losses. Many thought we'd lose a few more than last year (mostly because it was fluky we won as much as we did), but 100 losses?
  18. Yeah, but they are so very good even at their age the drop might take a bit. And no Pedroia then? Dozier is about to join the 30 yo club too. In any event, I think there's a market for him. I also think there's no way he gets traded this offseason.
  19. Kinsler is tied for 1st in DRS for MLB 2Bs and Cano is 3rd. Might be awhile for them to drop off enough to be considered a detriment at 2B.
  20. Yeah, I couldn't agree with that more. We have a horrific rotation and we have too many pitchers that have contributed to that. Seems the decisions should involve, I don't know, releasing some of them? This depth of starters is one reason why May was forced to, and then continued to be in, the bullpen
  21. Unless Altuve wins it, and he probably will and should
  22. Trout is the best player in baseball and he cant carry a team. He has the same problem Dozier has. His team has no pitching. Its a myth any one player can carry a team, especially in baseball.
