  1. yeah, but of those four, who stops it from being a tough road to contend if we had kept them?
  2. IMO, Gordon got promoted a few times without deserving it and he's only been really good at one level (and he had to go back a second year for that). I know he's been young for each level he's been at, but so has Kohl Stewart...
  3. IMO, there aren't a lot of reasons to be truly optimistic about our chances for 2019.
  4. Astros farm system is loaded so their 10th best prospect is still quite a prospect.
  5. In the last five seasons, he has only had one bad season. He's made the most of his opportunities with us. He's not a superstar, of course, but his versatility and his ability to come up big as often as practically anyone else on this team makes him valuable for us. I hope we keep him.
  6. EE has given us so much value. He seems to step up in crucial hitting situations more than most and he plays good/decent defense everywhere. He's also not going to cost much when taking into salaries we see in today's game. Letting him go would be a mistake.
  7. yeah, I still can't muster up the ability to root for my team to lose/tank, whether it ends up being for the good of the club or not. One of my many character flaws :-) Knowing that we're out of it and that losing may help us long term helps lessen the pain of losses though.
  8. If y'all are encouraged that a 5th overall draft pick in his fifth season of pro ball is sitting in AAA with a .602 OPS just because he's 22 (which, of course he is 22 years old, he was drafted out of high school), then that's great. I see a player who hasn't dominated any level he's been promoted from, who likely gets switched off shortstop, and who will likely be a utility player when it's all said and done. And he was a 5th overall pick. We haven't gotten much from our recent high draft picks (though I still have hopes from Buxton). I don't think this organization has shown that following the Astros blueprint is something they can do successfully (though, in fairness, the new organization hasn't had much time).
  9. Well, Dozier was DRAFTED at 22. Did people expect an EIGHTH ROUND pick from college to go to AAA right out the gate? Comparing where a college guy is at a certain age in professional ball to a high school draftee is ridiculous. Gordon is a 5th overall pick who is now in his 5th professional season. Didn't have an OPS of .700 or more till his third year (yet somehow got promoted every year anyway). Spent a season in AA, had to go back the next year until promoted to AAA this year, where he has a .602 OPS.
  10. Dozier played in college. And was not a fifth overall pick. Higher picks have higher expectations.
  11. Nick Gordon is very likely going to be yet another wasted high draft pick for the Twins. Guy screams utility player/lower end MLB 2B. All those high picks. Goes to show it's not just about losing and getting the high picks, it's about picking the right guys and being able to develop them.
  12. Yeah, our season didn't hinge on that one play. Sorry. This team has lost a ton and really just doesn't have the talent to be true competitors.
  13. Between Gibson and Snell? Still Snell. But Paxton and Morton even moreso.
  14. often a shortcoming of a stat comes from someone not reading up on and/or understanding the stat :-)
  15. Watching 'Succession' on HBO. Enjoying it. Looking forward to 'Sharp Objects' which starts Amy Adams and premieres on HBO this Sunday.
  16. I don't think we'd get much for him. Teams aren't just going to look at this half year's production, so if we can get a team to give up some quality, we should jump.
  17. Kepler also left early because of heat illness on an afternoon Cubs manager Joe Maddon described as the worst he has experienced during a major league game. "That was a pretty brutal day,'' Maddon said. "If you put that on AstroTurf, that would have been like the worst ever.''
  18. After today, the Twins will be 34-42. We are 16-13 in the division. 18-29 against the rest.
