  1. Um, remove Gibson, Remove Hughes, Remove Santiago, Duffey. Easy. Done. What's the next obstacle for getting DeLeon?
  2. If I had a choice between 5 years of Eaton or two years of Dozier, it'd be easy. 5 years of Eaton, no doubt about it. People are determining value and it's not just by looking solely at who is the better player with nothing else included. Age, years of control, salary and skill. All needs to be looked at.
  3. easiest way to look is go to baseball reference for the player. It gives the contract info. You're right. two team options. like I said 5 years of team control.
  4. that could happen. wouldn't surprise me. if you read a few posts above, I mentioned that I doubt he plays CF the whole time.
  5. Yes, because you take into account salary, years of control and age. Eaton's surplus value is incredible. Eaton is younger, is going to get paid 38.4 M for the next 5 years. Even if you assume he'll play CF EVERY year of the next 5 (which I highly doubt), you're probably looking at a 3-3.5 WAR play per year. So if we say 8M per WAR, and you figure an average of 3.25 WAR for 5 years, that's 130M. 130M minus 39 equals 91M of surplus. About 30M more than Dozier.
  6. I think he's worth more quite a bit than Dozier. The ONLY problem with Eaton is they will likely move him back to CF. So he loses a bit of value going from a very good RF to a below average CF.
  7. Only problem with trying to sell that is that the hated Cubs just won the W Series.
  8. Eaton is under team control through 2021 (5 years) at a very good salary (38.4M). GREAT value there. He was a 6 WAR player last year, 12.8 over the last 3 years. Dozier is older and under control for two years He was at 5.9 WAR last year and 13.9 WAR over the last 3 years. Eaton has considerably more value, about 30M more if Eaton plays CF the whole time, which I doubt. More if he plays a corner.
  9. royals have one of the best defensive OF in the game. One might argue when a healthy Gordon, Cain and Dyson are out there, they have the best defensive OF in baseball. And Orlando is awesome too. They led the majors in DRS for OF and were 2nd in UZR.
  10. What I mean is, if you have a good pitching staff that is really close to the strike one a lot, Castro will likely get the strike on those borderline pitches. He'll frame it well. But first the pitches need to be close enough on a consistent basis so he can utilize that skill. A painter can't paint without paint :-)
  11. We are definitely going to find out. For the record, i never said i think his framing would tank whereby he would hit Suzuki framing territory. I just think we will see a decent dropoff from the framing numbers he has posted the last three years.
  12. If the Twins are requiring DeLeon, Alvarez and Buehler/Sheffield/Lux/Barnes for two years of 30 year old Dozier, he isnt going to the Dodgers.
  13. The issue I expressed with Castro is that while his framing numbers are impressive, part of framing is having quality pitchers near the plate a lot where they get the benefit of the doubt. Huge difference between Astros pitching staff and ours. A day or two later, Cameron expressed the same concern in his chat. He wrote, 'If the team that employs Mike Fast isn’t interested in bringing you back, maybe your framing value isn’t as likely to continue as the Twins are hoping.' So, he doesn't have a very good arm, isn't really good at blocking balls, and isn't good that good at the plate. If his framing drops, people may be disappointed. Worth the shot, I'm glad they took a shot, but still. A lot of people seem to have issues with Kepler's defense. Not sure if it's because he's lanky or not but Kepler has impressed me with his defense. He's above average out there. I'd feel comfortable with him in CF too, to fill in for Bux on an occasional day off if needed or if Bux got hurt. Bux is awesome on D, of course. Rosario was shaky on D last year. Made fundamental and mental mistakes a bit too much and didn't seem to read the ball as well either. Took a step back on D, IMO. As far as our IF defense goes, Dozier is average and Mauer is above average. The rest is hard to watch (though I don't think Polanco is quite as bad as others do, but metrics disagrees with me).
  14. IMO, that speaks more to the horrible state of our rotation and our current farm system than it is an endorsement of Gibson.
  15. On this site, there is at least one whole thread dedicated to slamming 'negative' people. One is called 'Negativity'. Its in the forum titled 'Questions about Minncentric'. Your posts today, in this thread, would be perfect in there.
  16. I don't disagree a FA signing is able to be done quicker than a trade, especially for a player like Castro whose price tag shows he wasn't sought after too aggressively by other teams even if there were other offers by other teams (kind of like how we got outbid other teams for Park but still managed to get him for really not that much)..
  17. So you believe catcher was our top priority. Not pitching and/or a MLB caliber shortstop.
  18. And no one is. It's basically a discussion on what should be our top priority from the get-go.
  19. That wasn't the question though. I am, in no way, suggesting they should have done any trades so far. I'm asking whether or not Castro should have been their top priority from the get-go as was stated in the OP (which was just Nick's opinion, though he said it was obviously their top priority). I have never dogged out this signing.
  20. Question to all. In the article this was said '.It has been evident that Castro was the team's top priority from the get-go' Assuming we understanding FA isn't the only way to get players, how does everyone feel about Jason Castro being the team's top priority as opposed to say trading for some quality pitching prospects (or however else they want to go about improving the pitching)?
  21. Yeah, I think most fans of most teams wouldn't consider signing a player like Castro to be a bold or strong move, their bar is set higher. And quite a few people agreed, so apparently that point of view isn't too off the wall. You have a problem with that opinion, fine. I respect that. But you don't respect the other point of view because it disagrees with yours. So what do you do? You do what you always do, which is attack the person/people who disagree with you by labeling them, in this case as obstinate or trolling. Not sure what you think you are accomplishing by doing this, other than making yourself believe your opinions are always superior, but it sure doesn't invite open discussion.
