Starting pitching has mostly been bad lately, we really need that to change. Another guy thrown out at home, was that a contact play, I did not get to watch the game? Worried about all the outs we have been having at home plate...

Not on the year, we had been good, and are on a pace, as you point out to be similar to last year. I feel like in the last month plus our doubles are down for what we were on pace for.

This is a team clearly based on home runs. They pretty much live and die by them. Feels like doubles are down, and the clutch hitting or at least with RISP has been a problem recently. This is not a good fielding team. Outside of Buck and Kepler in RF, do we have anyone who is considered plus fielder? Schoop has the arm, but the range? Plus he squeezes the bat a bit tight in clutch situations. I would suggest our pitching has to get into the 6th and occasionally into the 7th. That to me is the real culprit of our current woes. We had one clean inning is these two games against the brewers...think about that. Bullpen is over used and our Manager is a bit confused. this is the team we have and bringing up some of the AAA position players in mid august is not the answer. I am not sure what is, besides the royals, tigers, and white sox. Beating those teams doesn't get you ready for the post season. Need to have a good showing against an ok Texas team in that band box of a stadium.

BTW Dyson being effective is a huge story line IMO. We are going to need him.

I agree with all of this. Not sure what the bunting was about, weird. Feel like Rocco has been out of sorts with his keeping starters in for way too long and not understanding when the bullpen guy just doesn't have it. After a day off, you have so many arms available why ride Harper when his soft tossing schtick is not working. Perez hit was mammoth and as big as we have had all year. Let's hope we can figure out how to watch them tomorrow. Our rookie manager needs to be better. Big win.

Nobody is pleased with the injury situation, and lack of starting pitcher depth compared to our foe. However, to see Odo, who until his last start, has not been great, be that good against a vastly improved lineup they have. Well, it gives me hope that we do have enough pitching to match our thunder. We need our guy Jose to be an ace tomorow. Then we have to figure out who our real horses are moving forward (hopefully Pineda is back soon, and Gibby can salvage his season). Huge win!!!!

This is the version of Gibby we have had of him most of this year, unlike last 1.25 years. Has to nibble. Not an extension candidate at 33 next year. I know this is blasphemy but anyone else not understanding Rocco's obsession with protecting the bullpen? Seems like lately he's leaving pitchers out way too long. You have to hope your bullpen can help. I know I know bullpen not great, but this is the team we have or chose to have. A little tired of the come from behind dramatics. Don't mind a close game, just prefer not to be behind a ton and rely on the big bomb to bring us back. let's hope we get it back. Cleveland now can hit.

Front Page: Dyson Drama: The Case of the Mystery Injury
rghrbek replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I won't care much if he rests up and comes back and pitches to his norms a week or two from now. Hopefully our starting pitching can survive, as well as our bullpen. -
Not having Buck for 2-3 weeks (not sure on time) hurts in the field, despite Kepler being adequate in CF, but adding Jake Cave in RF maximizes his absence and is a clear negative. Add in his futility this year at the plate, and that is a week spot. Guessing we see Marwin there the next two games. Big win. Big bomb.

Front Page: 2019 Minnesota Twins Trade Deadline Recap
rghrbek replied to Andrew Thares's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
With no August waiver trades available I think we saw the landscape of the new MLB. I don't like it. I wanted a bigger relief pitcher and a starter but we got what we got I feel like the sellers were just asking for too much. I think its different than other years. the angst is justifiable given the Twins poor history at the deadline, but I think with context, this year they did ok. Even with our team being this good Do I wish we did more? Yes, Give up elite prospects? Yes. But I do think that this year is different and that multiple elite prospects were required and Grenkie probably had us on his no trade list (I don't know this for a fact) yes. Teams were just not ready to pull the trigger. Still no excuses, but reality. Color me underwhelmed and disappointed but not devastated or that angry.- 93 replies

Article: Twins Won't Rule Out Trading For Lance Lynn
rghrbek replied to John Bonnes's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I don't want him for two more years after this year. I would hope the Twins aim higher for once? Despite his success? -
It was a vastly entertaining game. Twins slugged it out with a team they have never been able to slug it out with before. Lots of fun. Please get bullpen help...I'm starting to get a little worried about the big picture when it comes to the pen...

Article: Juiced Baseballs: Are 2019 MLB Stats a Joke?
rghrbek replied to Tom Froemming's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I guess, so what? Are we scrapping the mid 80's thru 2006 for the steroid ERA? Those stats matter, depending on your opinion. If these balls are impacting the game negatively MLB will eventually make the adjustments. I have serious "juiced ball" fatigue right now. -
But for gods sake do not send him out there tomorrow...his career stats if I recall on pitching consecutive days are really bad on that 2nd consecutive day. Cruz is a professional. He was our biggest off season acquisition, and we have had good ones. When we were rumored to be in on him I was excited. A latino, who can rake and provide stability in the clubhouse? Awesome. Good to see Kep come in as a defensive replacement...

Article: Craig Kimbrel and Risk Tolerance
rghrbek replied to Nick Nelson's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
I wanted Kimbrel I will state that. Although his finish to last year was alarming. 9th inning niche pitchers, falling off the end of the deep end is concerning (see Glen Perkins). This is where I agree with most of what Nick states. However, if we identify a guy, that makes current and long term success, I would like to see this FO be more aggressive. Finally, was anyone here willing to give Kimbrel more money and the additional year? Because reality is that is what it would have taken. 3 years 50+ million to go to a hot team, or 3 years 43 million to go to recent World Series champs and perennial contenders. That is what the Twins are up against for now at least, until we prove we are long term contenders. Still, we are loaded in the minors and should be aggressively shopping our top 10 prospects, maybe outside of our top 2 or 3. Clearly our window to win is now. -
I will say this because I have said this before and every time I have been wrong, so hopping for some of that mojo...Twins are bound to go on a slight slide...

I was at the game, great vibe, wish these games were on the weekend, which MLB would figure out how to do this. I agree with Brock, we need to understand we lost to what I think is a good team. Rogers is still elite, and we will more than likely beat them again. I will say this, and I believe this will happen. Our squad is going to have a few more of these games and soon, it's just the law of average. Still expect us to be fine, but see this type of game being a thing from time to time.

Article: Polanco Proving It for Good
rghrbek replied to Ted Schwerzler's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
The hit tool, looked like it was always going to be there, and remember we burned him up pretty fast under Gardy at an early age, because the lack of depth back then. Love him as a player. Glad he's batting 2nd. Now if we could get our 2nd best hitter batting lead off I would be happier! -
Article: MIN 7, SEA 1: Venezuelan Night in Seattle
rghrbek replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
It, isn't that I don't believe in him, or that I don't understand that he has had a short stint to start his season. It is very early for him and he will get better. More it was an observation, that when he is checking his swing on almost every pitch taken, he's not ready to contribute at the level we hope (despite his 2 hits Thursday). It's something that I expect to see lessen, the more at bats he gets. This is season 4 of big league action, so hopefully a light bulb goes on, once he gets up to speed and we see the better pitch recognition that we saw his rookie season, or the first month of his all star season.- 24 replies

Article: MIN 7, SEA 1: Venezuelan Night in Seattle
rghrbek replied to Thiéres Rabelo's topic in Twins Daily Front Page News
Still believe in Sano, but when he is checking his swings all the time, it shows me is just not ready pitch recognition wise. It's always been a deal with him. When he is doing it a lot, he typically is striking out more and not barreling the ball up. We will see. Nice win.- 24 replies

Pen still an issue. Last two games should have been easy wins, but runs late show the lack of depth in the pen. I'm afraid what we are going to get from Duffy is what we saw last night. Inconsistency. Hildy is the better pitcher with the better track record. We need him to figure it back out down in AAA. We also should be looking for a better than average arm. Surprised Adams did not come in the game last night to get his feet wet. Know he is a vet, but low leverage probably a good spot. Not very excited about him on the staff.
