  1. I think this is a great exercise, thanks. I will say to think Duffy would be a closer somewhere else, even an expansion team is kinda silly. Like you I think he has figured it out and could be really good moving forward, but besides his first starts way early and his late charge in the bullpen last year he has been nondescript. I think Little has way more upside. Albeit a smaller resume. Still good stuff.
  2. I take the over on the first 3 due to history, age, and again age. I will take the under on the last two. Not convinced Maeda is Cy material but he does have talent and great splits against righys, so that is low odds, and I think Garver is in his prime and will crush, so under on the last two.
  3. I think this list is probably correct. I would like to see the next 5. Guessing Morneau, Hrbek, Knobby, then I guess it gets muddled as you have to weigh in years of service (Torii) vs. very good short runs (like Bostock, Mack, Hisel). Probably a good debate.
  4. The fact that it was Graterol they traded and not one of our other two top prospect pitchers, tells me plenty what the Twins thought they had. Also tells me there is zero market for Eddie
  5. MLB network was stating that Maeda has pitched well in the playoffs. I find it interesting that people believe a prospect, very good prospect, was going to fetch a #2 or #1. When has that happened for an unproven talent? Could Graterol end up being great? Sure. But the odds are against him. Seeing all the ridiculous trade ideas on this site, I feel that many are not based in reality. Do I love the trade, no. Do I like it? Absolutely.
  6. It's good to see this article. We have been in pat ourselves on the back mode, and deservedly so, as we finally made a free agent splash. I still think good pitching beats good hitting, and Cleveland has that in spades. Do I think they are the favorites? No, not sure. But to assume it's clear cut the Twins is silly. The first two months count, and my my recollection we are way short on starting pitching. I like our bullpen though. it will be interesting to say the least, but as long as they have Lindor and Ramirez, they are big threats, from star power offensively, and of course their starters are elite. Should be fun!!!
  7. Lots of assumptions here, that we will cruise to a division title. ESPN had an article where 2 of the 3 sports writers still had Cleveland as the favorites, even though we signed Donaldson. Carasco is back, Clevenger is only going to be better, and they are loaded with starting pitching (assuming they do not trade Lindor as well). Also, Chicago will be better, and with a few jumps from the young kids can compete as well. Division will not be quite as easy as last year. That's a scary thought. Wins and losses count in April/May, so waiting for two of our starters is a big deal. My point is, there are no guarantees. The Twins have a roster to compete for division titles. They do not have a roster to compete for a World Series title, specifically starting pitching. I do not think they have enough bankable starting pitching. Their work is not done, and if we wait until the trade deadline, we could be 5 games out (or more), when we make a deal. Always hard to make up ground late in the season. The Twins reached up for the stars and got one guy via free agency. Good stuff. However, continue to be aggressive and try to get a front line pitcher. Hard to make a deal for a front line pitcher, especially a controllable one, but we have tons of assets. Now is not the time to stock pile. Hopefully there are some willing partners if the price is right. I would've given Rui a 4th year without blinking. We did it for Donaldson and they are similar in age. Just saying.
  8. Bottom line, it's just a fair deal for both sides, even if he does not become the star we all thought he wold be. He's with us for 3 years at least, and at 31 with his defensive limitations, at the end of his deal.., I think it's a big win.
  9. Yeah not sure with around 300 ABs we want to start comparing him to hall of famers like that. Maybe he looks to have their approach at the plate. That is fair. It's fun to speculate. The kid has the contact tool, which is rare these days. We will start to see more shifts I am thinking which he can hopefully adjust to. He is going to have to be a very good hitter to play everyday, with his glove. Otherwise like Gunarthor noted, he will be a guy off the bench.
  10. I think of all the people in this group to be least likely to regress, I feel it is probably Polanco. His hit tool has only gotten better and he was was solid when he started. I also think it could be crazy to assume Garver will end up at around 20 home runs. He squares up balls has a good approach. To me the most likely would be Arraez. .334 over a full season? He's got the intangibles, but give him 600 at bats, hard to see him sustain in a full season. Kepler would be next.
  11. Respect all the great opinions on this article, tough decision for many. For me it's Cruz by a long shot, there is no way the clubhouse was this close without him. That is based on 0 analytics, just knowing that he made this young group of players closer. I believe Polonco, Kepler and Garver are all legitimate and Odo too. But somehow I don't think this was even close. I think he made the kids become men so to speak or more professional. We had to have him in the clubhouse .
  12. No doubt Arraez bat was helpful (since not many other people hit in game two and 3). However, he was clearly limping in game one. Didn't he hit into a DP in game one ( yes as well as a double)? Didn't get to a ball that clearly started a Yankee rally, made a poor throw on an easy turn (yes Cron should make that play). Also did not cover 2nd base on a double off the wall that came straight to Marwin and we had a chance to get him out at 2nd (Cron was running to get to 2nd base). Subsequent games yes to playing Arraez and pinch hitting him once the Yankees game one starter was out. Just saying you play the veteran there against the lefty and with the mitigating circumstances.
  13. Agree with most of these 2nd guesses. Arraez could play game two but not game one. Silly. Schoop not as valuable, especially in 2nd half but far superior in the field and had over an 800 OPS against lefties. Also, all players out for close to a month get some type of rehab to face live pitching. If Kep wasn't healthy enough, then he shouldn't have played. Wade is an on base machine. Play him, especially over the vastly outmatched Cave (especially in the field). Agree on game one, empty the chamber with your bullpen to win game one. Then, if you do win, improvise... Oh well. Also it's ok to not acknowledge what a meltdown this was in general, but it's hard to hear that right after the game from the head coach. At least admit you did not play as you did most of the year. Fall on the sword while your team and your entire fan base are mortified. Then a day or two later talk about the amazing year we had.
  14. Great achievement. I could not be more proud. We should enjoy this magical season, we as a community deserve this. The fact that the last two months we were devoid of solid starting pitching makes this sweeter. I am not optimistic about our playoff match ups, but I would be crazy not to have a lot of hope, as this team has proven me wrong all year. I'm always a proud twins fan, but this year has been special for a loyal fan base that deserves this. Bring on the yankees.
  15. Agreed Chief, I have another. I Don't want Cruz to get hurt, but he seemed to not go hard to 2nd on Rosie's soft base hit, that took a while for the RFer to get there. I think he has 3rd standing up if he's running hard.
  16. This. Just think there is a lot of hype and good feelings toward a feel good story. Everyone get's to love the guy, or not, it's everyone's choice on this site. However, like Tom, I like to sprinkle a little bit of let's give this guy a year or two before we put terribly unreasonable expectations on him. He's been great this year and a breath of fresh air. However, I do not think he's going to be a star. I hope he is, but I think he is more likely not going to be, due to the many things Tom listed above. We have suggestions stating we should have traded Lewis for a true #1 because we have Luis (lot's of problems with that statement). Sign him to a 7 year deal, to playing him at 3rd base permanently. Just way too early for us to be making these kinds of assumptions. My vote, is he really doesn't have a ton of value, until he can do this over an entire year. He certainly gives the team hope though.
  17. I was at the game, and after Eddie hit the double, I told anyone who would listen that garverr would go yard...proud of me. I'm usually never right But I was... Again people are way too aroused about our homerun total. Knew the Yanks would catch us. Again I just don't care. Fun but we are too injured, n I just want us to win games. We beat a good team tonight, it was fun.
  18. Per Gleeman, Eddie is swinging at 58% of pitches out of the strike zone the last month. That is insane. He was in the 20 percentile in April, that is not a good drop. Every month has gotten worse. Rocco has been decent about moving people around in the line up. Time for Rocco to move our free swinger down a spot or two, as Eddie is a proud guy, may decide to not swing at everything. Despite this, outside of Cruz, Mitch would get my vote for team MVP.
  19. People are obsessed with the home run. Yankees may pass us. I personally don't care if we are set up for the playoffs. Nice outing from Pneda. Need more of that.
  20. If Graterol is good they will just put Gordon on the DL, as he won't be brought up anyway. So best of both worlds I guess.
  21. If they put Graterol on the 40 man before today wouldn't his clock start ticking? September call ups do not, am I wrong? It's probably the right thing to do, although if he is good, it would be nice to have him on playoff roster without giving up someone else to the IR.
  22. Schoop's recent hits have been huge. Great to see him turn his low leverage hitting around, as he offers something the rook doesn't, raw power.
  23. I would suggest, because he has been hurt and he is a south paw, that Gonzlvez has more upside than Stewart. He is likely to be DFA's this off season (Stewart). Still hopefully on Romero, but agree I think he should be put back in as a starter. I mean we have no clue how our 5 will look next year...besides Jose.
