  1. Wait, the twins bunted in the top of the 3rd? With a dude on 2nd and nobody out? Kill me now
  2. I don't believe that May is on their trade market at all. With Meyer fizzling out, Ryan is not going to let the only producing piece, of trading Spn/Revere, leave when showing so much promise. I just don't think Terry is aiming that high. I would also be shocked if they traded Hicks. Although I would have no problem with this, as he has proven nothing over 3 years, except that he has been very good as of late. Sell high. I agree with another poster, if you feel Sano can play third then trade Ploufe now, while his value is high and before we have to commit to him long term.
  3. Agreed, This team is teetering by a thread on heading down a dark path. Somehow, this year they have avoided prolonged losing stretches. If Perk is not 1st half Perk, it really doesn't matter who we pick up for the bullpen... Also, didn't May come in and get one guy last night at the end of the 8th? Knowing that the game most likely was going to extras, I might have brought him out in the 9th and saved Perk until the 10th. Easy to 2nd guess, but May has got to have the best arm in the bullpen...use it. I am not sure how Duensing has earned all that trust back (from like 3 years ago), as he was only good for about a month....
  4. So we are saying/assuming we are in contention just this once? I know that is a bit literal of me, but I think we were hoping the Twins learned something from the past. You must build from within. Just because we are sniffing around making a one game play off, does not mean we should make major moves at the deadline, because we are going for it. I would think the idea is you get to the point of regular contention, with confidence in your team, then make the moves necessary to put you over the top. Whatever it takes yes. Seems to me, there are too many questions about this team to worry about C, SS, and RP (which is a lot)....I mean, it's been smoke and mirrors to get this far to begin with right? The league is down, but are we confident a couple of decent moves puts us over the top for a title? Rosario, Hicks, Buxton, Sano...even with these guys we don't know what we have...
  5. Mike you've made this point before, and to a certain extent I agree. Especially if I felt these "banked" wins were sustainable to mean something in the 2nd half. I just don't fee that they will continue their winning ways. They can sign an arm in the bullpen in the off season, and should see what they have in house. If they were going to make a trade for a legit SS or Catcher, I would be open to that, but at what costs? We make 2 or 3 trades and stay relevant this year. Is that worth it? Are we actually going to win the play in wild card game? I guess I am torn, but I feel like we should be getting better in upcoming years. The FO can sign the right people, to compliment (or trade) we should continue to improve. Making "go for it" trades this year, just doesn't make sense, IMO.
  6. To me the issue is pretty clear. Escobar is an upgrade over Santana. Tough to dispute that. If some of you want to make a trade, that is fine as Escobar is probably not a legit everyday SS. However, he is plenty ok enough to carry us through the trade deadline and a number of games beyond. Jed Lowrie is on a reahab stint for the stros...now that he has lost his job at SS, where do they play him??? Do they trade him?
  7. Maybe...however, my guess is that the Twins will be signing Torii for one more year (I would not advise this, but you know TR will), so we may not get that out of Hicksy for 2 more years.
  8. Agreed, you cannot have enough good up the middle prospects. With Santana somewhat predictably crashing to earth, and Escobar struggling, we need to know we have some depth at SS. Polonco is not far away, but I'm not sure he will stick at short.
  9. Great article Nick, I think you summed up what a lot of us are feeling. It's ok to be skeptical, but it's also ok to enjoy the run. I do have a worry about the Twins though. If we stay somewhat competitive, up into July, will the twins be willing to promote (demote) the right players, even though we are technically in the race for the playoffs? Will they hold onto Stauffer/Duensing (instead of Oliveros, Archer and Tomkin). Will they keep Robertson/Shafer on the roster? Will they continue to let Santana struggle? I think we have to keep that eye to the future and be aggressive, even if we continue to win.
  10. I believe the Twins were 12 and 12 at this time the last two years (according to Ruesse), so my guess is in late June, we will not have to be worrying about wild card vs. rebuilding.
  11. The Twins and one (or many) of their affiliates, late to the game, when it comes to video, or any type of advanced stats? Shocking.
  12. I just don't see Torii putting up the same numbers as the last few years for one simple reason. He will be batting in front of Arcia/Plouffe or worse, compared to Maglio/Victor... I would say he's not going to see too many fat pitches.
  13. Read another preview of the AL Central (grantland). Twins last place. Fan Graphs is the most positive of all predicting web sites and has the twins at 75 wins. Even Vegas is lower. We all know there is 0 chance of the twins making the playoffs. Fine, it's a process. Still, some of their moves are just perplexing. Nunez, Dunesing, Schafer, Robinson, Milone, Staufer, Pelfrey, Boyer. Too much Terry Ryan imprint on this team. Also admitting to looking at trades for bullpen and center field. Again, this is a 70-75 win team....My hope is during the year we are mixing in some of the young kids for the players above, who have no chance being with us in two years.
  14. What is Torii Hunter going to do? Throw a punch at him? I think people are over estimating the effect Torii can have on this team, and will be disappointed when he isn't the clubhouse fix it all guy.
  15. Comparing the parallels between the two is understandable (both played well in MN). However, one is a hall of fame player, top 5 ever at his position. The other a nice player who had some very good years, but far from a HOFer. Like Nick though, I've come around a bit on the mentoring thing with Hunter. I don't expect him to put up the numbers, even from last year (look at the two guys batting behind him last year compared to the two who will be behind him this year), but if he can get a few of the younger guys to achieve more, then it's not all bad.
  16. Wasn't there a post about defense on TD a while back that stated that Shafer was just average in CF? He was slightly above average in R and LF, but just average in CF. Throw in the fact he has never hit (despite his limited at bats with the Twins), well I just feel like it's a foregone conclusion that having any combination of Hicks/Shafer in CF is just not going to work.
  17. Check out Gleeman's take on all this. I tend to agree with him, as he suggests the Twins' FO has a distorted view of themselves... http://aarongleeman.com
