  1. someone will get a QO... not sure who at this point that will be. There's no way they can find 2 starting pitchers in FA/trade. I do think they'll open one spot to Thorpe/Smeltzer... but I doubt they let 3 rookies take those spots next season.
  2. Got to say that I'm thrilled with a 5.5 game lead... need to hold it coming into that Cleveland series. They still have enough games with us to make it close again.
  3. I guess it depends on what you think of Cave and eventually Rooker/Weil/Kirilloff/Larnach. That might be a decision better made in a year, but if someone had some decent pitching help that they would trade for Rosie, I wouldn't think too hard about it... Problem is that MLB doesn't really value corner OF types. Rosario's bat could make up for his gove at CF I suppose.
  4. I'm not sure the pen was ever the right answer here. We seem too quick to take a promising starter and turn them into a reliever. Romero has been a pretty good prospect for years now and was pretty decent in MLB at first too... He's gotten results and seems to have the stuff.. but man did the wheels fall off... I'm going to chalk some of it up to a lost season and hope that he turns things around next year and regain that status. We're going to need pitching next season, and while I don't want 3 spots in the rotation left to rookies, I think one of them will probably go there... and we'll need depth if someone fails.
  5. by hoping they keep him as a starter, I was referencing long term. I don't see him starting this season... and yeah, color me skeptical.. then again, I seem to remember a similar experiment with Jose Mijares that worked well at first.
  6. well.. .800 OPS in 100+ games now. I'd say the bat is for real. From what I understand his glove is a bit below average for a CF... that makes for a pretty darn good 4th OF though or perhaps a piece to trade for pitching help this offseason. If Cave keeps doing what he's doing, he'll be collecting a major league check somewhere.
  7. It's an interesting gamble... I do hope they keep him as a starter, but I woudln't mind letting him have a shot in the pen this fall. We could use someone like that. The question is whether or not they trust a rookie with 1 month of MLB experience in the post season.
  8. yeah, and it's not like Trout plays 1B or something either. He's doing this at a defensive position. Trout deserves it until Trout stops being Trout.
  9. It will be very interesting to see how we tackle SP this offseason. I don't think it's a conincidence that our level of play has dropped off significantly with our starters being less effective. Perez, Odorizzi, and Gibson have all turned back into pumpkins. Pineda is looking more like his old self. I definitely agree with the sentiment that you keep someone around, and that the moment, that someone is Pineda. I'm not sure I'd even consider QOing the others at this point. They've all been pretty bad as the season has worn on. The problem is what to do next. That's 2 starters for 5 spots. I could see leaving one spot to Thorpe/Smeltzer to see who emerges victorious (with the other being a depth piece for 2020)... but going with both would not be wise IMO. Free agency doesn't look all that good with really only one or two starters worth giving money to... I still think they end up trading for someone. I'm still shocked the Twins didn't try and beat the offer for Gallen... They certainly could have. Then again, I'm still shocked that the Marlins traded him.
  10. I think Thorpe and Smeltzer probably belong here. Both are pretty big wild cards and either could end up starting or even working out of the pen.
  11. I'd say Smeltzer has earned an extended look. Why not bump Perez to the pen and give Semltzer a few starts?
  12. Perspective might be good for fan's frets... not quite sure about the Twins' success. Our 10+ game lead is down to one with more than enough games against the Indians to swing that the right or the wrong way. Yes, the schedule for us is easier here on out, but they still have to win the games.
  13. I cannot believe they traded him... must not have thought highly of him... If he pitches like that for a couple years, he'd have gotten a kings ransom.
  14. I'm not sure what you're getting at here. I was talking about getting Callen from MIA. He's doing quite well this season so far in his rookie season. I don't see Miami trading him.
  15. I'd just like to see him finish at something that resembles his season to date. He usually drops off around now.
  16. I tend to agree with Chief on the grade, though in fairness, big names weren't moved. I'm not qutie understanding some of that, especially the rentals. Sellers sitting on those names will see them go away for nothing this offseason. I'd have thought sellers prices would have gone down. They didn't. That said, I have to ask... when and how will we strengthen things? The farm is still strong, as we literally gave up nothing. Diaz and Davis had virtually no chance to be in the team's plans and were virtual locks to be taken in the Rule V if they were left unprotected... So Falvine did that part right. But back to my question. When and how will they strengthen things? I don't see them going hard after SP help this offseason in FA, as there's very little worth going after. Do they extend 3 QOs? I'm doubtful there too. I'm guessing two at best and even that I suspect is unlikely. Trusting Smeltzer/Thorpe for one spot would be fine, but more than that would be disastrous. That means they'll still have to make trades, and I doubt prices will be that much lower come November. I don't think they will do much to help the pen... again, part of that is due to the crap shoot found in FA and I do think that there are guys stepping up in the pen worth keeping. So when will they go all out? And how will they do it?
  17. He's a rookie... So not only is he cheap for the next 3 seasons, giving the Marlins no reason to shed his salary, the cost to get him will be exorbitant.
  18. That would require being more of a tech geek... That's a big reason why I had kids... except instead of programming a VCR, it's programming Netflix.
  19. It's a series. They have 2 seasons up on Netflix. It's about time travel, though set (initially) in 2019.
  20. It wasn't that long ago (2006) when Morneau crossed the 30 mark and was the first Twins planer in decades to do it... all of these guys and then some may cross that number this year.
