  1. I would be shocked if the Twins didn't sign all their first 10 round picks. More interesting to see how they spread any savings around for later picks.
  2. Of all our prospects, Javier is the one I care least about statistics and just want him to get at-bats. Hopefully he can stay healthy for us and make full use of that talent.
  3. He's 26. The author misstated what the investigation into his age could find.
  4. These posts on Sano are getting ... annoying. For the life of me, I can't figure out why people are ripping on him. He came back from injury, playing solid defense, showing incredible power and being a force in our line-up. He's already been an all-star for us. I'm not sure why articles like this want to focus on bad things (especially without putting it in any context and letting the reader assume the worst of the young man). It's alarming that these type of articles and posts are being focused on Sano whose had a lot of dog whistling posts on TD over the years. Perhaps we should find something better to focus on.
  5. This draft confuses me. I'm going to be pretty upset if the Twins don't spend all of their draft pool this year but I'm not sure where they'd spend any of the savings they might have made earlier.
  6. Holland might turn out to be a solid pick. Callis really liked that pick for the Twins - "Holland entered 2019 as a likely mid-first-rounder before a poor first half torpedoed those chances. He did look more like his old self down the stretch, a potential 20-20 guy who definitely will stay at shortstop." https://www.mlb.com/news/mlb-draft-favorite-picks-from-day-2?t=mlb-pipeline-coverage If the Twins can fix that swing, they might have another solid shortstop prospect to go with their others.
  7. fangraphs guys liked Wallner: "Wallner hit for power all three years of college, even while pitching part time as a freshman and sophomore. He has some of the most explosive raw thump in the entire class, and will hit balls 10 rows into the bleachers even when he doesn't get fully extended. He has some moderate swing-and-miss issues characteristic of hitters who have power-driven approaches, but he's also willing to take a walk. His is a traditional right field profile, and he's in the mix with late first, early second round college power bats."
  8. I'm ok with this pick b/c most of the guys I wanted were gone by then. Obviously, questions about HS players hit tool can be pretty damning but they had questions about Adell and the Angels are thrilled that they picked him. Twins have always liked toolsy HS guys and they've had some success with them so let's hope this one works out. Excited about our next few picks.
  9. Stott has fallen in a few mocks I've seen. He, Allen and Carroll seem the most likely to slip to 13. I don't think any of the other seven will. Riley Greene won't get to us but I wish he would.
  10. I'm not sure the players did as bad as you think. Nix got a million dollars to settle his grievance and then signed the next year with the padres for 900k so came out a bit ahead. Marshall got 750k the following year although I'm not sure if he was involved in the grievance. Aiken turned down the 5m offer the Astros offered and got half that from Cleveland but he also received an undisclosed amount from insurance as well.
  11. Anyone try Chernobyl or The Hot Zone? I'm enjoying both.
  12. Yeah, if Nix had won his grievance, the Astros would have been forced to pay him 1.5m which would have put them over the allowed pool amount and cost them a first round draft pick the following year. So they basically paid him 1m to drop his grievance. Can't remember if Marshall also got something.
  13. This was more or less the Astros Brady Aiken mess. They assumed he'd sign for 5m and leave them 2m+. With that they were going to sign Jacob Nix and Mac Marshall (I think). After Aiken didn't sign they had to not sign those two but Nix brought a grievance and the teams settled out of court with Nix getting nearly all the promised money.
  14. Off topic but it might be interesting to get a thread updating how some of our non-top 20 prospects are doing. Guys like Cabbage, Blankenhorn, Jax, Balazovic, Raley all seem to be having nice years.
  15. Yep, looks like it'll be a pretty bad period coming up. I own some Indian stocks that have been destroyed with Brexit and the trade wars - like thousands in the red. Could sell and get a tax write off at this point. Deere is down 5% today. Great company, I think, in the longterm but it might get cheaper for a bit.
  16. I'm not sure why anyone would think we should poison the water with one of our most important players. He's doing fine on his rehab assignment and we need his bat. Gonzalez is posting a 55 OPS+.
  17. Buehler is the one we should regret passing on, not Bennintendi. Buehler was actually in the discussion for the Twins and there was some expectation we'd take him. He and Berrios would look great together.
  18. Blankenhorn is having a solid season - .279/.356/.442 across A+/AA. My understanding is the Twins see him as a super utility type (maybe their Marvin Gonzalez). He's only 22. Especially with benches going to 26 players in a few years, he'll be a MLer.
  19. I think Eddie is the team leader in the clubhouse but Buxton is the face of the team for the fans.
  20. Glad to hear that Stewart will get another start. I still think he can help the ML club. Good that Cabbage is hitting in A+ (SSS). Kiriloff and Sano might be on the same team at the end of the year, too.
