  1. Watching the video of the Kiriloff HR and the video shows Astudillo rounding the bases and I'm thinking, "woah, Kiriloff has really let himself go."
  2. Every sport has unwritten rules and in every sport they boil down to 'respect your opponent and 'respect the game.'
  3. Man, I would hate having someone that intense teaching kids. The opposing coach did the right thing.
  4. I love the unwritten rules. More fights. More brawls. Make the game more fun. Here's the baseball codes write up on the matter by Jason Turbow. Great book for baseball fans. https://thebaseballcodes.com/2019/08/16/twin-hacks-3-0-gets-teammate-plunked-reminds-us-that-people-still-pay-attention-to-this-kind-of-thing/
  5. Gaver has played first base 40 times in the minors and 9 times in the majors. The Twins don't seem inclined to use him there. And, before his injury, Cron was having a heck of a season - .271/.329/.503 - in more PA than Garver has had this season. He's a good player.
  6. It's been 19 games and less than 80 at-bats due to thumb injuries. I'd give him more reps and assume he'll get back into the groove that he had in the first half. Fans are too quick to give up guys during struggles - Sano, Buxton, Polanco, Kepler etc. Cron's our best first base option right now on a team that should be playing in October.
  7. Kiriloff and Larnich are hitting fairly well at AA - Kiriloff isn't waking enough (6.5%) while Larnich is striking out too much (30%) but both look like they'll be pretty solid ML bats. And Lewis is walking more than Kiriloff and striking out less than Larnich. All three are pretty solid in AA right now. Great to see that.
  8. Yep, I mean, I'm not planning on selling any of our holdings and we'll ride this out since we won't need the money for 20 years. But, ouch. We hold in several big areas - big banks and oil/gas - which are getting crushed lately. Hoarding cash for now and hopefully we can buy into the market later at a nice sale price.
  9. Perez, Thorpe, Smeltzer. It doesn't really matter. They are all bad choices for a playoff team. One might get hot for a bit but ... The FO should really be held accountable for not getting a starter at the deadline.
  10. ugh. This series is not going as I expected/hoped. Going to the lake tomorrow so won't have to watch the next two. Jeepers.
  11. No, I mean have you compared Gibby to other pitchers besides ours? I get that he hasn't pitched well but at the same time, fangraphs has only 13 pitchers in the AL ahead of him in WAR. He'd lead the Yankees in WAR, for instance. Domingo German has a 5.40 era against playoff hopefuls, I believe. Tanaka is 5.28 or so. The point being, I'm not convinced SSS of random teams is all that helpful.
  12. I really hate these type of comparisons. If you're going to discount his best 26 innings, shouldn't you also discount his worst innings?
  13. This team really needs Buxton back. He just makes the team better by a lot. Pitching is going to kill us in the playoffs but we'll make the playoffs.
  14. Surprising to see the big WAR differences for Gibson on b-r and fangraphs. Honestly not sure which I favor.
  15. I honestly think we'll take 3 out of 4 or sweep them. I wish Buxton was healthy for this series but this group has always played Cleveland well and these players have a little edge to them (I wish ownership and the FO would step up but that's a different thread). I think this is the type of series where Rosie goes off and hits 3 dingers and hits .500 for four days. Always worried about the pen and Lindor is my favorite non-Twin in a long time but we're simply a better team. By a lot. I think the players prove it this weekend.
  16. It could be that the Giants told the FO that they suspected he had an arm injury which is why the cost for Dyson was relatively minor - three non-top 30 prospects.
  17. This is just a PR piece for ownership/FO. The players and fans have constantly been lied to about when the team will push their chips in. Rosario is 27, Kepler 26, Buxton 25. This isn't a young team anymore. They were nearly a playoff team in 2015, fighting the Astros to the last series of the season while bringing up impact rookies like Sano and Buxton. And they were a playoff team in 2017. This waiting for the window to open is just excuse making. We started Perez today b/c the FO didn't improve the rotation despite multiple different ways to do so. We're bringing up something called Randy Dobnak b/c the FO didn't improve the bullpen. Teams that want to win made moves. We didn't. We'll probably still win the central but Cleveland made moves that helped them this year and in the future. We couldn't figure out how to do that. It wasn't because we have a FO that's playing four dimensional chess - the Pressly trade should dissuade anyone from thinking that - they didn't do anything b/c they couldn't figure out a way to do it.
  18. I thought Schoop was dealing with some nagging injuries and Rocco was playing the hot hands over him. I'm not sure Arreaz is this good so I'd be shocked if the Twins removed Schoop from the roster. (He also seems to be a positive in the locker room).
  19. Trade war is impacting the market hard today - https://finance.yahoo.com/news/stock-market-news-august-5-2019-114434812.html Brexit and the current trade war have not been good for investors dumb enough to invest in car companies based in the UK. -sigh- https://finance.yahoo.com/news/1-brexit-meltdown-uk-car-110828153.html
