  1. They inherited a team that was a season away from nearly making the playoffs. They had a nucleus of top 100 prospects to build around. They had the first pick in the draft and some supplemental picks. They had an owner who said he'd actually spend money. It's hard to find a better situation for a new FO to walk into. Not sure I'd be as optimistic about this pitching pipeline. The best prospect in the system was drafted by the previous FO. The current FO hasn't shown much ability to find top of the rotation starters. More worrisome, they might not think they have to b/c they might just think baseball will evolve into 4-5 pitchers per game snoozefests. Outside of Berrios, I'm not there is another pitcher in our entire system that will crack 150 innings this year.
  2. They were given a great situation and didn't really capitalize on it. Now they need the pipeline they built to keep the window of opportunity open and it doesn't look like that will work out. I'm ready to move on from Levine for sure. Not as sure about Falvey.
  3. I loved the 2016 draft at the time and now it's looking even better. Kiriloff, Rortvedt, Baddoo, Wells, Jax have already made the majors with Miranda and Balazovic still at AA. I don't know if any of them will have the upside of the top of the 2012 draft (Buxton, Berrios, Rogers) but they should provide some above average MLB players.
  4. Levine should go for sure. Not as sure about Falvey. I heard a lot of nice things about him but if he's the guy behind the 5 inning starter plan, I'd be happy to see him go. I hate watching this pitching style.
  5. Coming into this season, the Twins best hitting prospect (Kiriloff) and best pitching prospect (Balazovic) were guys picked by the prior regime. This FO has made a bunch of bad trades, failed to recognize the talent in the system, failed to build a pitching staff. They were given one of the best situations any new FO could hope to get and really didn't do anything to help. I'm really surprised how much rope some are willing to give Levine. And I'm really worried that Falvey is behind the five inning pitcher philosophy.
  6. I'm kind of done with this Twins team. I remember after the T-Wolves traded KG, I stopped following them and just rooted for KG, even in Boston. Feel the same way about Buxton. Hope he wins an MVP, ideally for us, but I'll root for him anywhere. This FO is a disaster.
  7. I'm glad you got your gains. I've been avoiding the AMC/gamestop stuff but maybe I should have thrown a few dollars at it. I have a friend who is only buying AMC GME and cannabis stocks. I probably wouldn't have done that but he's ok with it. We actually bought a couple hundred shares of Apple stock yesterday.
  8. If you are going to discount the best five games, you have to discount the worst five games. But my point was that I think the offense is going to be fine. Sano is better than this and will flip a switch and start hitting. Kiriloff is a legit middle of the order bat. We have enough weapons and depth to be a pretty potent unit. Pitching, bullpen in particular, is going to drag the team down all year.
  9. The FO should shoulder most of this blame. The bullpen is crap and they seem to be big believers in limiting starting pitching innings. Seems like if you're aiming to build a team where the starters max out around 170 innings on the season, you have to have a huge and productive bullpen. We don't. I don't understand how the team was made. Offensively, I think it's ok. I'm ready to move on from Polanco and Kepler but we have some depth behind them that could work. And I'll give the FO credit for trying to build around the offense by bringing in Donaldson and Cruz. But the team has a few too many bench players in starting spots right now. Hopefully, a little health fixes that.
  10. Sano is the firstbaseman, Kiriloff should be a corner OFer. I think Kepler and Polanco are bigger concerns than Sano.
  11. On the positive, Kiriloff is finally getting results.
  12. This is basically right. I think the Sox are the favorites now but we're probably still the second best team. That said, at the end of the year, I wouldn't be surprised if we won 94 and took first or if we somehow managed a 79 win season and came in third. The bullpen terrifies me. The lineup will be good. If we win 94, Buxton wins MVP.
  13. I am down on this team but there certainly are scenarios where this is still a playoff team. I trust the offense a lot more than I trust the bullpen and even the rotation. Kiriloff has had some at-bats where I think, "he's gonna be good" even though he lines out. And I'm still a big believer in Sano. But the pitching staff really worries me. I will add that I am actually thrilled to be watching baseball again after the insanely strange 2020 season and Buxton is absolutely amazing to watch.
  14. This probably wasn't a fair review of Twins history. The 2015 Twins were pretty good, fighting for a playoff spot to the last series of the season and had some really promising young rookies. To say that the 2016 Twins were devoid of talent is a bit wrong. Those young guys just struggled - a lot. The 2017 Twins made the postseason. And then we had another ****ty season in 2018 that only looks a bit better b/c we won the last six against the White Sox. Most of called the 2018 season another total system failure year. Realistically, TD is giving the current FO a bit too much love. Even after all this time, our best hitting and pitching prospect were acquired by the previous regime. This FO was given a pretty good hand - talented young nucleus at the ML level, strong prospect system, an owner willing to spend - and they haven't really done much to help. 2019 was a fun season with a rough ending but this looks like a season full of cruddy bullpen arms trying to game their way through the 6-9 innings, day in, day out.
  15. I'd be ok to see him go. I liked his hiring a lot at the time but I don't think he's done that great a job. I think Falvey is more important to the longterm.
  16. Right now, only Donaldson, Buxton, Arraez and Cruz look like the they have a clue. Not sure what else they can do about that. Sano needs to be healthy. Kiriloff doesn't look good. I'm ready to give up on Polanco and Garver. Gad, what a crappy start to the season. I don't like the idea that starters should aim for 5-6 innings and be happy about it. I certainly don't want to turn into Bert but good grief. This bullpen is bad and we're relying on them way too much. Rocco needs to let our starters go deeper.
  17. It'll be fun to see both of them get a shot. Hope they both excel for us.
  18. That's a legit fair point. The A's are good and they are playing great. Sometimes you just get your ass kicked.
  19. I do think lack of a consistent lineup hurts. I know some folks think changing the order around based on who you are facing, moving guys up and down or in and out, gives the team a better chance to win but I think it also takes guys out of their routine.
  20. Looks like another 'total system failure' season. It is too early to panic and the Twins do have some talent but they are also relying a lot on guys who, frankly, might not be that good. Buxton, Cruz, Donaldson, Berrios could start for anyone but I'm close to giving up on Polanco and wish one of our young bats would take RF away from Kepler. And our bullpen still sucks. Still, this team could easily turn it around and win the Central. Sano will get hot.
  21. Yeah, this sorta has a "I want to hit reset" type of vibe to the season. Oh well. Hope everyone is healthy.
  22. Well, we aren't as bad as we look right now but, ugh. I trust our hitters to get it figured out a lot more than I trust the pitching staff.
  23. Those stats are through 9 games against a few pretty iffy offensive teams. Not sure it tells us anything. The Twins pen seems like a weakness to me. We'll see how the season goes.
  24. I think our pen won't hold up but our lineup and rotation will. Part of this is that the starters aren't designed to go 200 innings anymore so we're more reliant on the pen. And part of this is that the pen arms are all feast or famine type. Great to see Buxton turn into the guy we all hoped for. Now if he and Sano can both get going at the same time ...
